Chapter 158 - Chapter 158 – Homecoming and Vows

The skies above the Great Ling Continent shimmered with the fading hues of dusk as Jalen descended toward the sanctuary. The wind curled around him like a familiar embrace, whispering through the trees and stone arches. He had returned.

Before his feet even touched the ground, a blur of motion launched toward him.

"Daddy!" Jael cried, leaping into his arms. "I missed you!"

Jalen caught him mid-air, staggered slightly—not from the force of the hug, but from the sheer strength behind it. Jael's qi pulsed brightly, his aura refined and potent. Jalen blinked, scanning his son's cultivation.

Moon Realm.

He hadn't been gone long, and yet Jael had ascended two full realms. Jalen's brows furrowed. How?

The answer came swiftly, unbidden.

"He is a product of you," the Origin Shard whispered in his mind. "As you grow, so does he. Your bond is deeper than blood—it is forged in essence."

It made sense. But Jalen's instincts flared. The shard never gave without taking. He narrowed his eyes.

Why? What do you gain from this?

The shard didn't answer. No riddles. No cryptic promises. Just silence.

Still, Jalen sensed no malice. No ulterior motive. Just… purpose.

Before he could dwell further, Rana appeared at the sanctuary's entrance. Her eyes lit up, and she rushed forward, arms outstretched.

"You're back," she breathed. "How are things back home? Is everyone safe?"

Jalen embraced her tightly. "It's taken care of."

Their hug lingered, filled with relief and quiet joy. Then Jalen turned toward the cradle nestled beneath the archway. His son and daughter—twins—slept peacefully, their tiny chests rising and falling in rhythm.

He knelt beside them, brushing a strand of white hair from his daughter's forehead. Both children bore Rana's snow-white hair, but their eyes—when open—were unmistakably his: bright, piercing blue.

"Let's go home." Jalen activated Flash Reversion. The sanctuary shimmered, and in a blink, they vanished—their destination: the Flare Palace.

The journey took a full day. Though Flash Reversion was swift and now capable of covering a hundred and ten miles—far beyond its original sixty-mile limit thanks to Jalen's growing strength—the twins' remarkable physiques required careful modulation of qi. Jalen had to adjust his technique constantly, taking long pauses—sometimes an hour or more—between activations to ensure their safety above all. After five careful uses, they finally arrived.

They reached the palace quietly, settling into the quarters prepared for Jalen during his last stay. No alarms were triggered, and no announcements were made. Jalen didn't want to draw attention, especially to Rana, who was still being hunted. Not that it matters, because after what he did, the Solar Clan is bound to make their way here sooner or later.

Once they were settled, Jalen—with Jael perched proudly on his shoulder—went to retrieve Rana's parents, Jaquan and Lara, as well as his own: Jana and Simon. He brought them all to his quarters.

Jana's eyes welled with tears as she embraced her daughter. "My daughter. You're safe," she whispered.

Rana smiled, holding her mother close. "I'm sorry I made you worry, Mom."

"I'm your mother. I'll always be concerned about your well-being." After what Jalen had told her days ago about Rana's trials, Jana was overwhelmed with joy to see her daughter not only alive but also thriving. The last time she saw Rana, she was at peak Gold Realm. Now, she stood at the peak of the Imperial Realm. The growth in just a few years was astonishing.

After the emotional greetings, Jana was eager to meet her grandchildren. She could hardly believe they were already born—according to cultivation norms, they should still be in the womb. But here they were.

Jana shook her head in disbelief. "They're miracles."

Even Simon, usually reserved, joined the warmth. He hugged Rana—briefly, but sincerely—and studied the twins with quiet awe.

"A couple days old, and already stronger than most disciples and even some elders," he murmured. But when it came to his son-in-law Jalen, nothing surprised him anymore.

Jaquan and the pregnant Lara were also moved by the reunion. They greeted Rana with warmth and pride. Rana bowed respectfully, calling them "Mom" and "Dad." Lara smiled warmly, while Jaquan nodded approvingly.

"You should marry her," Jaquan said bluntly to Jalen.

Jalen didn't object. Rana blushed but nodded.

And so, a wedding was arranged.

It wasn't grand—Jalen disliked public spectacles. Only close family and trusted friends were invited: Jana and Simon. Jaquan and Lara. Jalen's siblings. Nate and Steve, who nearly fainted from excitement. Simar. Seven of Rana's older brothers, including Simian. Even Ridge was present, Simon's right hand.

Jael stood proudly beside his father. The twins were nestled in Jana's arms, who seemed reluctant to ever let them go.

The ceremony was simple but beautiful. Vows were exchanged beneath the Flame Blossom Tree, its petals glowing with soft light. Jalen and Rana stood hand in hand, surrounded by those who mattered most.

When the celebration wound down, the palace quieted. Jana took the twins, insisting they sleep in her quarters. Jael joined Nate and Steve, who were both intimidated by the boy's strength.

Back in their private quarters, Jalen and Rana finally had a moment alone.

The palace had quieted. The stars outside blinked softly, casting a silver glow through the open windows. The air was still, as if the world itself was holding its breath for them.

"We finally get some time to ourselves." Rana's touch was gentle, reverent. Her fingers traced the lines of Jalen's face, memorizing the contours she had longed for.

Jalen smiled, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "You know what that means."

She flushed, eyes sparkling. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"You know why," he teased.

"Alright, you may proceed," she replied, her voice soft. "Take me."

"You're getting bolder," Jalen said, amused.

"Well," she said, leaning closer, "you're my husband now. I have to play the part of a loving and willing wife."

"I like the sound of that."

Their lips met—slowly, tenderly. It wasn't rushed or fiery at first. It was warm, grounding, and filled with the weight of the emotions that have been bottling up for months. The kiss eventually deepened in intensity and in meaning. It was a language only they understood.

Their bodies met like rivers converging—fluid, inevitable, ancient. Not a collision, but a merging. The warmth between them was not just physical; it was spiritual, forged through trials and tempered by time.

Moonlight spilled across their skin, casting soft shadows that danced with each shift and sigh. They explored each other not with hunger, but with reverence—like artists rediscovering a masterpiece, like pilgrims arriving at a sacred place.

No words were spoken, yet everything was said. In the way Rana's breath caught when Jalen held her closer. In the way his heartbeat steadied when her hand rested over it. In the way they fit together—not perfectly, but truthfully.

Eventually, they lay side by side, staring at the ceiling, hearts steady.

A few minutes passed before Rana broke the silence.

"I'm worried," she said softly.

Jalen turned to her, surprised. "Me too."

She blinked. "You are?" She couldn't believe it—he always seemed so sure, so unafraid. Like he knew exactly what to do, no matter the situation.

He chuckled, the sound low and warm. "You still think I'm a robot, don't you? Even after sharing vows and laying myself bare."

Rana smirked, teasing. "As if being bare is an issue for you," she said, recalling his shameless behavior during their first encounter years ago.

Jalen grinned. "You liked what you saw that time at the pond, didn't you? Isn't that why you fell in love with me?"

She blushed, laughing softly. "You're impossible."

"And speaking of falling in love…" Jalen paused, his voice quieter now. "I love you."

Rana turned to him, eyes wide with tears. "You do?"

She had waited for those words—not just in silence, but in hope.

And now, hearing them, it felt like the final piece of her heart had come home.

He nodded. "Sorry it took me so long to say it."

"I love you too," she whispered.

They kissed again—gentle, affirming. It wasn't rushed. It wasn't fiery. It was grounding, filled with the weight of everything they'd endured.

Jalen pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her. "And don't worry. Even if the entire Solar Clan comes here, I won't let anyone harm you. Or our children. Or anyone we love."

Then he took her again. Their bodies moved in quiet harmony, echoing the vows they had spoken beneath the Flame Blossom Tree. It was not just love—it was devotion.

Rana nestled into his chest afterward, her breathing slow and steady. She wasn't exhausted—her cultivation made such fatigue rare. But she slept anyway, because she wanted to. Because she was safe. Because she was home.

Jalen remained awake, his senses sharp. He didn't expect peace to last. But for now, he allowed himself to feel it.

The night passed quietly, the stars watching over them.
