Chapter 137 - Chapter 137: Beneath the Flame of Firsts

The air between them shimmered—not with qi, but with something far more fragile. More dangerous. More real.

Jalen's lips lingered on Rana's, the kiss deepening with each passing breath. What had begun as a farewell had unraveled into something neither of them had planned. His hand, once cautious, now traced the curve of her spine with reverence. Her fingers clung to his robe, knuckles white, as if letting go would undo the moment.

He pulled back slightly, just enough to see her face. Her eyes were closed, her lips parted, and her breath uneven. She was trembling—not from fear, but from anticipation.

"Are you sure?" he asked, voice low, rough with restraint.

Rana opened her eyes slowly. "I've never been more sure of anything."

That was all he needed.

Jalen kissed her again, this time with purpose. His body responded instinctively, heat rising not from flame qi, but from something deeper. Something primal. Something human.

He wasn't an expert in this kind of closeness. He had trained in combat, mastered techniques, and survived realms that devoured lesser cultivators. But this—this was uncharted territory. And yet, his movements were fluid and intuitive. As if his body had always known how to respond to hers.

Rana gasped softly as his lips moved from her mouth to her neck, tracing the delicate line of her collarbone. Her flame qi flickered around her like a heartbeat, pulsing in rhythm with the emotions she could no longer contain. She held him tighter, her breath catching as he pressed closer.

"I want you," she whispered. "All of you."

Jalen's control slipped—not recklessly, but willingly. He let go. Let himself feel. Let himself be vulnerable.

With a flick of his fingers, his qi flared—not in aggression, but in passion. The heat unraveled the fabric between them, leaving them bare, exposed not just in body but in soul. Rana gasped, not in fear, but in awe. Jalen's eyes met hers, searching for hesitation. There was none.

He lifted her gently, cradling her in midair as if the sky itself had become their sanctuary. The world faded, and it was just the two of them, suspended in a moment that felt eternal.

Their bodies met, but it was more than physical. It was a collision of emotions, of longing, of years spent apart and feelings left unspoken. Jalen took his time, every movement deliberate, every touch reverent. He memorized the way she trembled, the way her breath caught, and the way her eyes fluttered shut when he whispered her name.

Rana felt like she was unraveling. Every nerve lit up, every sensation magnified. She clung to him, not out of desperation, but out of wonder. She had never known her body could feel this way—like it was singing, like it was breaking and healing all at once.

Neither of them spoke. Words would have only cheapened the moment.

Jalen's breath grew heavier, his body burning hotter than it ever had—even during his fiercest battles. He wasn't sure if it was the qi, the emotion, or something else entirely. All he knew was that he didn't want it to end.

Rana's moans were soft and melodic, like a song only he could hear. Her hands explored him with trembling curiosity, her touch both shy and bold. She was discovering him, and he was letting her.

When Jalen reached his peak, his vision blurred, stars dancing behind his eyelids. It felt like falling and flying at the same time. Rana bit into his shoulder, her own release crashing through her like a tidal wave. They clung to each other, breathless, suspended in the aftermath.

Jalen lay back in the air, chest heaving, eyes wide with disbelief. "If I knew this was what lovemaking felt like," he said between breaths, "I'd have done this ages ago."

Rana laughed softly, curling beside him. "Yeah, that was amazing."

"No, you're amazing." He turned to her, brushing a strand of hair from her face.

Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes shy but glowing. She couldn't meet his gaze for long, but he didn't let her look away.

He cupped her chin, gently lifting her face to his. "Since you're already my fiancé," he said, voice steady, "let's make it official. Become my wife."

Rana's eyes widened, then softened. She nodded slowly. "Yes. But it'll have to be the next time we meet."

Jalen nodded, understanding. "Until then, wait for me."

"I will," she whispered. "I'll never love anyone else. Not after this."

"Me neither," he said. He didn't say the word "love"—not yet. He wasn't sure what this was. But he knew one thing: he didn't want to share this part of himself with anyone else. Not ever.

They lay together in silence, the air around them still humming with residual qi. Jalen's fingers traced idle patterns on her skin, his mind quiet for the first time in days. Rana nestled against him, her flame qi flickering gently, like a lullaby.

Minutes passed. Then Jalen turned to her again, a mischievous glint in his eye.

"So," he said, "shall we go at it again?"

Rana giggled, her blush deepening. "We have less than forty minutes before my master returns."

"I'm sure we can make it work."

With that, words became unnecessary. They moved together again, not with urgency, but with the quiet understanding that this moment—this connection—was theirs alone.

And as their breathing slowed and the silence returned, Jalen rested his forehead against hers. Neither spoke. They didn't need to. The bond between them had changed—no longer just forged in battle or memory, but in something deeper. Something sacred.

Outside, the wind stirred. Time was moving again. But for now, they remained suspended—two souls wrapped in flame, holding onto the moment before the world called them back.
