Chapter 270 - Chapter 270: Misty Specter

Player World.

After Yuna's remains were brought back, players witnessed the devastation of her family, Itto's grief, and Ei's resolve to wage war against the Abyss.

Finally, before the raging flames, Lumine's final words appeared on the darkening screen:

Rola's life ended in a field of dandelions; Qingge's valiant spirit dispersed on a moonless night; Silaya's memories were forgotten amidst the radiant lights of the House of Daena; and Yuna's remains shattered on a bloodjade-blooming shore.

Their names are etched into the cracks of my blade, yet the Abyss's dark currents still churn. Having inherited the will of Anemo, Geo, Dendro, and Electro, even if I walk alone to the world's end, I vow to burn away the eternal night with my dwindling flames.

When Water Runs Dry—Complete

After completing the quest, Chen Xiyao sat in her chair, silent for five minutes. Then, she took control of Lumine and began wandering through Inazuma City.

Despite the monumental event of Yuna's death, the city remained unchanged after the quest's conclusion, as if nothing had happened. She had expected at least some white lanterns to be hung.

"Sigh~"

Even the gods couldn't save Yuna. Despite all the meticulous preparations, they still failed to save her...

Yuna's death brought Chen Xiyao not only the grief of losing a vibrant life and a dear friend, but also the despair of being unable to save her despite her desperate efforts.

I tried so hard...

Chen Xiyao wasn't alone in feeling this way; many players shared her sentiment.

Watching this unfold from the System space, Jiang Mumu couldn't help but wonder if she had gone too far. After all, the Seven Archons failing every single time seemed a bit unrealistic. Maybe I should let them win at least once next time?

Still, even if they won, the Person of Pure Soul would still have to die.

But if the Person of Pure Soul dies, can the Seven Archons truly be considered victorious?

Hmm, this requires some serious thought...

She couldn't risk a repeat of this incident, where she nearly forced Little Paimon to transform into her true form. The way Paimon's pupils had looked—almost like Istaroth's—though she couldn't be certain.

Even if Paimon did unleash her true form, Jiang Mumu wouldn't be intimidated. But she still preferred the small, adorable Paimon.

Grown-up Paimon just isn't as cute.

I should have the Fontaine Persona comfort them... No, its personality isn't right. I'll wait for the Natlan Persona.

The white moonlight sister, so gentle that even Ajaw wouldn't raise his voice around her—she'll take good care of our precious Lumine and Paimon.

A week after the update to the "When Water Runs Dry" quest series, the follow-up side quest received its update.

Misty Specter

Description:

Kuki Yuna's departure has left you deeply distraught. Recalling the altar set up by the black-robed figure, you resolve to investigate the matter thoroughly. You and Paimon travel to Tsurumi Island...

Upon reading the quest description, Chen Xiyao felt the grief she had barely managed to suppress this past week resurface.

Over the past few days, numerous videos documenting Yuna's death had flooded the internet, some of which were disturbingly graphic, causing her heart to clench with pain.

Mihoyo's official channels had been completely bombarded with criticism. Unable to endure the backlash any longer, they released a new official account for the Genshin Impact team:

[@GenshinImpact_Official]

[This is the official Genshin Impact operations team. Please direct all your questions and concerns regarding Genshin Impact here.]

The moment the announcement dropped, the official Genshin Impact account immediately gained a massive influx of followers, but along with them came a storm of criticism from netizens.

Seeing this, Mihoyo breathed a collective sigh of relief.

In the live stream chat:

"Misty Specter... still on Tsurumi Island?"

Tsurumi Island's highest peak is home to the Altar where Yuna's spirit resides. If there's a specter here...

Chen Xiyao had already completed the Tsurumi Island questline. Ruu was undeniably tragic, but he had long since faded away, and his story was merely hearsay, nothing compared to the direct, visceral impact of witnessing Yuna's presence.

This specter in the quest couldn't be Ruu. It could only be... Yuna?

Hiss—

Chen Xiyao drew in a sharp breath, bracing herself for the inevitable emotional gut punch this quest would deliver.

Still, even knowing the pain awaited, the chance to see Yuna again, to hear her speak once more—that alone would make enduring the heartbreak worth it!

Inazuma.

A week after Yuna's funeral.

Before heading to Fontaine to find the Person of Pure Soul there, Lumine and Paimon decided to visit Tsurumi Island.

They had explored Tsurumi Island during their previous adventures in Inazuma, and their initial impression of the place was terrible, shrouded in dense fog. After Ruu's tragedy, they were even more reluctant to return.

Yet now, for Yuna's sake, they were willing to brave the island once more.

They had already visited the other five locations without success, making Tsurumi Island their last hope.

"Lumine, look over there!" Paimon pointed toward the area around Tsurumi Island's highest peak. The fog they had previously cleared from the area had inexplicably returned!

Lumine frowned. She remembered that the final Altar was located in that very spot.

"Let's go check it out."

The pair swiftly arrived at the base of Mt. Kanna, where dense fog obscured visibility to only five meters ahead.

"Lumine, where are you?" Paimon called out.

"Paimon?" Lumine replied.

The little fairy had been some distance behind Lumine when they entered the fog. Upon realizing she couldn't find her companion, Paimon instantly panicked.

Hearing Lumine's voice coming from her left, nearby, Paimon quickly flew toward the sound.

"Lumine?" Paimon called out again, puzzled when she still couldn't see Lumine despite flying closer.

"Paimon, where are you?"

Paimon's eyes widened in horror, her entire body trembling.

Lumine... Lumine's voice had suddenly shifted to the opposite side and sounded incredibly distant!

"Waaah! Lumine, why did you run over there?!"

Paimon's voice was filled with terror, the little one's teeth chattering from fear.

On the other side, Lumine stood motionless, her expression grave. Though she hadn't moved an inch, Paimon's voice seemed to shift back and forth between directions.

Hearing Paimon's trembling voice, Lumine's heart pounded with urgency.

Paimon must not come to harm!

"Paimon, stay put! I'm coming to find you!"

"Okay, okay! Paimon won't move! Hurry, Lumine!"

Lumine drew her longsword and channeled her energy into a powerful slash at the surrounding mist, but it had no effect whatsoever.

She tried other methods, moving toward the direction of Paimon's voice, but she couldn't pinpoint its location. Paimon's voice seemed to randomly materialize within the fog.

"Lumine, are you there? Paimon's so scared!"

Just as Lumine was burning with anxiety, her longsword suddenly emitted a red and yellow glow.

Stunned, Lumine stared at the blade before raising it high.

The sword's radiant light instantly dispersed the surrounding mist, increasing visibility from five meters to ten meters.

And there, just seven or eight meters to Lumine's right, stood Paimon.

"Lumine!"

Paimon rushed toward Lumine, flinging herself into her arms. "Waaah, Lumine! Paimon will never leave your side again!"

Lumine gently patted Paimon's back, comforting her. After a moment's hesitation, Lumine decided against venturing deeper. Instead, she used the sword's light to guide Paimon out of the mist-shrouded area.
