Within the wormhole, it felt as though they had passed through a thin membrane of darkness — an unfamiliar weightlessness wrapped around their bodies.
Liu Xi and his companions were all experts above the Dou Huang realm. They quickly steadied themselves, adjusting their Dou Qi circulation as they regained balance.
Before them stretched a vast silver tunnel nearly ten zhang wide. Its walls shimmered with faint silvery barriers of spatial energy. Behind them was a rippling black membrane, like the surface of still water, while ahead lay an endless void.
"This is the wormhole... truly silent and lifeless."
With a flick of his wrist, Liu Xi summoned a small wooden boat. The moment the 4th Tier Space Boat appeared, it rapidly expanded several times over, silver light blooming around its hull as a thin layer of spatial energy formed a glowing barrier.
"Let's go."
He leapt aboard with Zi Yan and Xiao Yixian. Liu Xi's gaze swept across the deck until it found the peculiar crystal control at the bow.
Zi Yan dashed over with an eager gleam in her eyes. "Big Brother, I want to pilot it!"
Liu Xi chuckled, amused by her enthusiasm. "All right, you're the captain this time, Zi Yan."
"Yay!" Zi Yan pressed her palm to the input node, her Dou Qi surging forth. The entire Space Boat trembled once before a brilliant stream of energy burst from its rear.
Boom!
The vessel shot forward like a streak of silver lightning, slicing through the darkness.
Outside, the scenery rushed by in blinding streaks, so monotonous and uniform that it could drive one mad if stared at too long. Liu Xi soon turned his gaze back toward Xiao Yixian.
"Though luck was on our side obtaining the Sky Poison Dragon Scorpion Beast's Monster Core," he said, "it's still only 6th Rank. The effect is uncertain. To perfect your control over the Calamity Poison Body, it'd be best if we found a 7th Rank core."
Xiao Yixian looked at him tenderly and nodded. "Whatever Young Master decides—I trust you completely."
Liu Xi smiled faintly, then turned his eyes toward Zi Yan at the helm. "We also gathered quite a few Beast Flames this time. I'll begin cultivating the True Flame Technique. Zi Yan will probably tire of piloting soon enough, so I'll leave the rest to you."
Xiao Yixian giggled softly. "That's fine, leave it to me."
With that, Liu Xi turned and stepped into the cabin. With a Dou Zong like Xiao Yixian at the helm, he could cultivate in peace.
He sat cross-legged on the bed, retrieving three jade bottles from his Storage Ring—the companion Amethyst Lion Birth Essence of the 6th Rank Amethyst Winged Lion King, the Blazing Feather Tiger's Beast Flame, and the Netherground Wolf's Beast Flame.
Uncorking the bottles, he let a few drops of the Amethyst Lion Birth Essence hover at his fingertips. Rubbing thumb and forefinger together, he ignited the volatile essence—
Whoosh!
A violet flame flared to life. Without hesitation, Liu Xi released the other two Beast Flames and swallowed all three.
His body already contained a Heavenly Flame and he had mastered the Five Ring Flame Expelling Technique. Controlling these lesser Beast Flames was nothing difficult.
The instant they entered his meridians, a surge of cyan fire erupted within him—the Lotus Heart Flame's presence radiating dominance like a queen before her trembling handmaidens. The three newly absorbed flames quivered violently, their fiery brightness dimming in submission.
Seeing them weakened, Liu Xi directed his Spiritual Power. Three threads of Dou Qi intertwined with hints of cyan fire enveloped the subdued flames, forming three spinning vortices. As the whirlpools accelerated, they began compressing the flames, squeezing their essence tighter and tighter until his Dou Qi seeped into their cores.
At the same time, Liu Xi's Spiritual Power flooded forth, scanning every fluctuation. Tempering Beast Flames was an irreversible process—should any one of them go berserk, everything would be lost.
So he continued patiently, soul and fire perfectly synchronized. With his vast Spiritual Power reserves, exhaustion was no concern.
Outside, as expected, Zi Yan soon grew bored after several hours of piloting. She turned her gem-bright eyes toward Xiao Yixian, silently pleading. The latter could only laugh helplessly and take over the controls.
Freed, Zi Yan stomped her foot, pouting. She peeked toward Liu Xi's cabin, but seeing he was in seclusion, she could only munch on pills and curl up for a nap.
Twenty days passed in the blink of an eye. Inside the cabin, the three Beast Flames had been refined down to the size of a thumb, their aura several times stronger than before.
"The next step…" Liu Xi murmured, "is fusion."
Within the sea of cyan fire, the three smaller flames quivered gently, subdued yet brimming with potential. Liu Xi's eyes narrowed, and with a thought, an immense force burst forth from within his body, gripping the three flames and pressing them together.
Boom!
The moment they touched, violent rejection exploded between them—layers of tricolored firewaves erupted, only to be instantly devoured by the surrounding cyan flames, leaving Liu Xi unscathed.
He ignored the surging heat and poured his will into the flames, forcing them tighter together.
Fire was born wild—if one wished to command it, one had to subdue that wildness first. The chaos must burn outward, not inward!
Now, as the three flames struggled violently under compression, waves of heat burst outward like an erupting volcano.
Liu Xi's Spiritual Power shot through them like lightning. He could sense the clashing violent factors inside—each different, yet each provoking the other to greater ferocity.
The merged flames churned restlessly, on the verge of detonation. Liu Xi's gaze hardened. The cyan Heavenly Flame surged, pressing down upon the tricolored firestorm.
'If it's a contest of endurance,' he thought coldly, 'let's see which of us lasts longer!'
The flames bucked harder, bursting outward again with explosive fury. The temperature in the cabin skyrocketed as the air itself shimmered from heat distortion.
Rumble!
The explosion tore through his meridians like thunder, but Liu Xi didn't flinch. "Get back—now!"
With a low growl, torrents of cyan fire roared forth, suppressing the raging mixture once again.
Finally, after one last struggle, the resistance faded.
Where the three flames had once been, only a small flickering wisp remained—pale as bone, glowing faintly amidst the sea of cyan.
Liu Xi opened his eyes slowly.
'The birthflame of Transmuted Flame… finally succeeded.'
This was the seed of the newborn flame—its power incomplete, but promising. With future nourishment from Beast Flames, it would only grow stronger, until it reached its peak.
