That night—
Inside Liu Xi's room, a whirlpool-like energy storm surged violently. At its center sat Liu Xi cross-legged upon the Green Lotus platform.
Heaven and earth energy poured unceasingly into his body, circulating along the meridian route of the Nine Nether Ghost Flame Technique. Each cycle gathered at his heart, where it was refined once more by the Fallen Heart Flame—transformed into an incomparably pure stream of Dou Qi.
The storm raged until dawn. When the final wisp of energy was absorbed, silence returned to the room, broken only by the rhythmic thump, thump of Liu Xi's heartbeat.
After a moment, his eyes slowly opened, azure light flickering within. A faint smile rose on his face.
"The complete Fallen Heart Flame truly is extraordinary. Even though I barely cultivated these past two months, I still managed to break through smoothly to 7-Star Dou Wang."
He descended from the lotus platform, dressed himself neatly, and stepped out after washing.
At the dining table, Xiao Yixian had already prepared breakfast. Seeing him approach, she smiled. "Young Master, good morning. Come, eat something first."
"Mn. Let's eat together," Liu Xi replied, returning her smile.
Not long after, Zi Yan shuffled out from her room, half-asleep. She plopped down at the table and mumbled, "Big brother, why were you so loud last night? I couldn't sleep at all."
Since the Inner Academy was destroyed, Zi Yan's previous quarters had vanished too. This time, she had moved in with Liu Xi and Xiao Yixian.
"The feeling came to me, so I just went with it and broke through to 7-Star Dou Wang. Not everyone's like you—eating, sleeping, fighting occasionally, and somehow growing stronger from it," Liu Xi said with a teasing grin between sips of porridge.
Zi Yan snickered.
Xiao Yixian smiled as well and brought Zi Yan a steaming bowl of porridge. "Thanks, Sister Xian'er."
With both girls present, Liu Xi said, "Next, I'll be heading to the back mountain to refine some pills. It'll take a while before I return."
Xiao Yixian's eyes lit up slightly, while Zi Yan looked disinterested.
"Young Master," Xiao Yixian said, "let me go with you. I want to refine a poison myself. I'm about to break through to Dou Ling, and I'll need a potent catalyst. It's not convenient to do that inside the academy."
"Big brother, I'm not going. I'm going to find someone to forge me a pair of gauntlets," Zi Yan said.
"No problem."
After breakfast, Liu Xi carried Xiao Yixian and flew toward the back mountain.
Sweeping the area with his soul sense, he selected a tranquil clearing by a stream and descended, gently setting Xiao Yixian down. "Here should be good. Call me if you need help."
"Alright," she nodded.
She found a leeward spot and began taking out her tools from her Storage Ring one by one. When she noticed Liu Xi watching, she smiled a little sheepishly and brought out her poison ingredients.
Arrowroot, Water-Toxin Leaf, White Serpent Root—those were ordinary enough. But then came—
Silver-Ring Snake Venom, Jade Venom Centipede, Death Scorpion…
Liu Xi's right eyelid twitched continuously, though he kept his smile fixed. 'If you love her, you support her,' he told himself silently.
Don't be fooled by her gentle looks—those delicate hands, one holding a writhing centipede, the other gripping a venomous scorpion—she looked downright fierce.
Especially those two creatures; both were top-tier toxins, yet in her grasp, they were utterly subdued.
"Xian'er, I'll be refining too."
"Alright, Young Master."
Liu Xi walked aside and raised his right hand. A crimson flash lit up his Storage Ring, and a massive red cauldron crashed heavily onto the ground—the Ten Thousand Beast Cauldron, one of the Heavenly Cauldrons.
Around him, medicinal ingredients floated, each wrapped in his Dou Qi—the materials needed to refine Soul Nurturing Saliva.
This particular recipe had been among Han Feng's spoils, and though not high-grade—roughly 5th Tier—it wasn't too complex to refine. Its only flaw was the rarity of its materials; even after scouring the entire Black-Corner Region, Liu Xi had barely gathered a few sets.
With a flick of his finger, an azure flame burst from his fingertip, flowing into the cauldron's fire vent. The moment it entered, it flared up wildly, forming a blazing sea of flame within.
Liu Xi's gaze swept the herbs. He tapped a stalk of Blood Ginseng, and with a burst of force, it shot into the cauldron, immediately engulfed by the flame.
Under the Heavenly Flame's heat, the Blood Ginseng didn't burn away instantly. Instead, the crimson veins covering its surface shimmered with a blood-like glow, appearing even more vibrant beneath the azure light.
Liu Xi waited patiently, maintaining the temperature of the flame. After over an hour, the ginseng had fully melted, leaving behind a globule of blood-red liquid.
He carefully moved it to one side of the cauldron to nurture it slowly, then added the next ingredient.
As day turned to night, the process repeated. After nearly a full day, all the ingredients had been refined into multicolored liquids. Now came the most crucial step.
"Condense!"
Liu Xi's low voice rang out.
Within the cauldron, the separate liquids began to drift toward one another, merging into a shimmering, many-colored sphere. Their medicinal properties intertwined and fused.
Given his current skill, this process was easy enough. Soon, the colors within the cauldron faded, replaced by a luminous jade-green liquid.
Although Soul Nurturing Saliva wasn't overly difficult to refine, it was incredibly time-consuming. Liu Xi maintained a steady, gentle flame, slowly tempering the liquid until it gleamed like a piece of emerald.
Three full days passed—longer than it had taken him to refine the Dou Ling Pill. By now, the Soul Nurturing Saliva inside the cauldron was perfectly transparent, crystalline, and flawless.
Liu Xi waved his hand, and the liquid flew into his palm. Just one breath of its fragrance sent a sharp clarity through his mind, washing away days of fatigue.
"What a fine treasure," he murmured.
Then he lifted his left hand, channeling spiritual power into a white Storage Ring. "Elder Yao, wake up—it's time to eat."
Because Yao Tianhuo's soul had been too weak, he'd been in deep slumber to conserve energy.
A flicker of light flashed from the ring, and the faintly translucent figure of Yao Tianhuo appeared before him.
The moment he emerged, his eyes locked onto the jade-green liquid in Liu Xi's hand, barely concealing his hunger.
"My young friend… this…"
Seeing that gaze, Liu Xi smirked. "Go ahead. I made it for you."
Gratitude filled Yao Tianhuo's eyes. He opened his mouth and inhaled, drawing the Soul Nurturing Saliva in a stream of green light. Instantly, his translucent body was suffused with vitality, faint green light rippling across him.
His once-hazy form solidified, his aura deepened and grew vast. After about ten minutes, the glow faded, leaving his face brighter, younger—almost invigorated.
"Thank you, little friend. Though I'm not back to my peak, I no longer fear soul dissipation. I could even face certain Dou Zong now," he said with sincere gratitude.
Liu Xi chuckled. "No need to fight any Dou Zong, Elder Yao. But I do plan to cultivate the Five Ring Flame Expelling Technique. I'll need your guidance."
"No problem," Yao Tianhuo replied with a satisfied smile. "That's as it should be."
