Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: M1

Multi-Purpose Processing Unit (UMPU-X1)

Description: This advanced chip seamlessly integrates a diverse array of functionalities, meticulously combining the inherent strengths of various silicon, carbon, titanium, and zirconium-based components. This intricate fusion results in a highly versatile and robust processing unit.

Blueprint Layout: The UMPU-X1 is specifically engineered for comprehensive energy control, enabling precise regulation and optimization of power consumption. It boasts high-speed computing capabilities, facilitating rapid data processing and complex calculations. Its adaptive decision-making algorithms allow it to dynamically respond to changing conditions, while its robust data management ensures secure and efficient handling of information. These combined attributes make it exceptionally suitable for a wide spectrum of applications, ranging from sophisticated energy regulation systems to real-time navigation in the most extreme and unpredictable environments.

Special Requirement: The fabrication of this groundbreaking chip requires a cutting-edge 1nm lithography process, pushing the boundaries of current manufacturing technology.

'Very good, now this truly looks like a proper single, multi-purpose chip, capable of revolutionizing all kinds of fields,'

Keon thought with a hint of satisfaction. His sharp, analytical gaze landed on the new chip blueprint. But his eyes immediately froze when they saw the "Special Requirement" section, where it clearly stated the tough demand of a one-nanometer lithography process.

'It appears my troubles are getting worse every day, not better,' Keon thought, feeling completely speechless. He immediately started recalling and carefully putting together the technical details for such an advanced machine from the vast memories of his past life.

After a long time of intense thinking, a deep silence fell over him. He found that the important details for building such a precise lithography machine were missing from his memory. The neuron chips and other complex parts he had used in his earlier neurolink project on earth were, at best, made with a 5nm process. These chips, though advanced for their time, were designed based on his specific needs and then made by the special lab of Orris Corporation, his parents' respected company.

'Even though I have the basic knowledge to finish the research and design for this lithography machine, it will definitely take a lot of time… probably a few weeks, or even several months,'

Keon thought, an unexplainable worry starting to spread through him. 'However, the third phase of this challenge will soon be over, and only half of the current players will survive. I can't afford to do nothing during this critical time. Maybe there's some hidden goal I need to reach before this phase ends, something I need to do to be allowed into the next stage and stay among those who survive.'

He had been working tirelessly to level up, driven by the strong urge to survive each phase and move forward. The fate of those who were eliminated remained a terrifying mystery, and the uncertainty was always there, a chilling presence.

'Let me build a few more machines specifically for mining and efficiently collecting the sand rich in resources,' he decided, a new plan forming in his mind. 'Also, I can now think about trading other valuable resources for this sand, since I can now collect all the necessary materials myself.'

He decided to design new plans for these mining machines. Quickly, his internal thinking power split into several different parts: a big part was used for the detailed design of the scanning and mining machines, while another dedicated part focused on the complex job of finishing the lithography machine's design.

As time steadily went on, the area around Base One changed dramatically each passing day.

A strong boundary wall, carefully built, now surrounded a huge one-square-mile area. At the same time, the entire desert inside this protected area was turned into a shiny metal floor, with eight large, square warehouse buildings attached to the wall in smart places. In the middle of this huge complex, a tall, impressive building was put up, serving as the main building and the main entrance to Base One's underground safe place.

Deep beneath this central building, Base One itself had been greatly expanded.

Keon had carefully dug out a huge amount of sand rich in resources from the large cave area, a process that directly helped with this expansion.

Now, the entire Base One area was an engineering marvel, a structure made from strong quartz glass mixed with traces of iron. Even the outside structures, including the buildings and the protective walls, were built from this same tough material, using the fact that quartz and iron were the most common and plentiful elements on this empty planet.

Keon stood in front of one of his newly built machines. It had a unique dual-ball shape, as if two round frames were smoothly connected, with two completely round metal wheels built into each frame.

'If this machine were built on Earth, people would definitely make fun of such an unusual design,'

Keon thought to himself, a hint of humane doubt surfaced in his thoughts. Then he didn't care about dismissing the extra thoughts.

'However, I care more about how it works rather than how it looks. These mining machines, with their unique shape, are perfectly designed for moving across this difficult desert region.'

His thoughts were silent, his gaze fixed on the dual-ball design, its surface gleaming with a shiny, mirror-like finish, as if made from polished steel.

'Next, let's find out if this mining machine will work exactly as I expect,' he thought. He then started controlling the machine using his neural imprint. The very next moment, a surge of surprise went through him.

'This imprint connection is truly amazing\! No matter which machine I connect to, it feels like that specific machine is a new part of my main body, letting me control it with perfect accuracy, exactly as I want.'

As he thought this, the motors inside the mining machine whirred to life, and its strong, round wheels began to roll, steadily moving towards the slope that led out of Base One.

While Keon stayed inside the safe walls of Base One, he could see and monitor everything around the mining machine through its built-in sensors and cameras, experiencing the outside world as if he were physically there.

Outside the base's territory, the mining machine quickly sped up, reaching speeds over fifty miles per hour in just a few seconds. Its round, rough, and heavy wheels gripped smoothly through the sand, easily moving across the challenging ground.

Zhhhh!!!

It then sped up, going up over a sand dune, and briefly flew through the air before coming down towards another dune.

Thud!!!

Sand exploded around it as the heavy object hit the ground, making a small hole. The mining machine was firmly stuck in the dip, its wheels whirring with all their might, but unable to get any grip.

'I'm stuck,' Keon thought, his analytical mind already working. 'Let's see if my designed solution for such a situation works.' He then activated the special features built into the machine's design.

The next moment, the entire mining machine began to shake intensely. Both wheels whirred, at the same time releasing tiny, sharp barbs from their surfaces. These barbs, in turn, let out tiny sparks of lightning. At the same time vibration redistributes the sand particles creating a base for his wheels.

Grrrr!!!

A sharp rubbing sound filled the air, and the mining machine, with new strength, came out

of the hole and moved towards the next area.

Keon nodded to himself, a quiet feeling of satisfaction settling within him as the mining machine stopped in front of a desert area. Its sensors detected a small, but important, amount of mixed resources.

Immediately, the resource-gathering sub-talent was activated. The individual sand particles began to flow towards the mining machine, smoothly joining with its metal body. Slowly, the mining machine's size began to grow: from one meter to two meters, then three, four, and finally, after reaching an impressive five meters, it stopped gathering resources.

'Perfect,' Keon thought, watching the process. 'Even though the connected machine, working through my imprint, can use some of my sub-talents, it can't get into the system's storage space. It's like clones, but with limited abilities. Only my main frame has full access to the system and its storage, trading, and communication functions.'

He controlled the mining machine, guiding it back to Base One with its newly collected resources. 'This is exactly why I came up with this idea: to gather the most resources a single mining machine can hold, simply by making it bigger through absorbing resources, and then releasing the collected materials by making it shrink back to its original size.'

The mining machine returned to one of the warehouse buildings, where it began to release blocks of various materials.

At the same time, its size efficiently went back to its original one-meter form. Keon felt a deep sense of achievement, and his thoughts sparked with a new determination.

'Very good. As the first successful prototype of a mining machine, I will give it the name M1. All future mining machines will be named in order after it.'

At that very moment, the name of the mining machine in his Neural Nexus was updated to M1, joining the exoshells already called E1, E2, and E3.
