Silence fell again this time accompanied by a fear no one bothered to hide.
"Then," another physician said with a trembling voice, "we use poison."
Jay lifted his head. His gaze was sharp, dangerous. "Explain."
"A toxin that attacks the internal organs," the physician replied. "If Liv's body weakens—"
"Enough," Jay cut him off, his tone icy. "I allowed this because you said it was the only way. Do not forget who lies on that bed."
Ingira looked at Jay for a long moment before speaking. "If this fails as well, then there will be nothing left we can do."
Jay fell silent. After several seconds that felt like an eternity, he gave a stiff nod. "Do it."
The poison was mixed with another, clearer liquid and administered to Liv once more. This time, the mages formed a magic circle around the bed, ready to contain any backlash.
But what happened… was nothing.
