Liv's world collapsed.
"What…?" Her voice trembled violently.
"Your life is an anomaly," the Grand Sorcerer continued without mercy. "While that child is the product of a lingering ancestral bond. The two cannot survive together. One of them must be relinquished."
Jay finally turned to her. His eyes were red, filled with guilt he could no longer hide.
"I'm sorry…" he said hoarsely. "I was afraid to tell you…"
Liv did not cry. She did not scream. She only sat there in silence, staring blankly ahead realizing one shattering truth.
In her previous life, she died by betrayal.
In this life… she was forced to choose who would live.
Liv swallowed, yet her throat felt dry, as if there was nothing left to swallow. The world around her seemed to stop moving—the wind, the birdsong, even Jay's breathing beside her felt distant and faint.
"Why…?" Her voice came out softer than she expected, almost a whisper afraid of being heard. "Why do I have to be the one to choose?"
