Turn 3
"My turn, draw."
Yami Yugi glanced over his hand. "At this point in the duel, our hands can no longer keep up with what's coming next, right? I activate the Normal Spell 'Card of Sanctity' from my hand. Both duelists draw until they each have 6 cards in hand!"
"Don't say 'both of us'. You're just out of cards again, aren't you? I flip my Set card—'Appropriate'."
Then, in perfect coordination, Youmi drew until her hand reached six cards, and flipped another Set card. "You can only activate this when your opponent draws outside their Draw Phase. After that, each time your opponent draws outside their Draw Phase, I draw 2 cards from my Deck."
With that, although Yugi now had two cards in hand, using 'Pot of Greed' or 'Graceful Charity' would risk giving Youmi even more cards.
If Youmi were still playing her heavy trap lineup, this wouldn't be dangerous. But now her Deck was full of 'Mikanko' cards—monsters Yami Yugi didn't know well, but understood were powerful.
"I see, so you even considered that, Youmi? Even so, don't think this will restrain me. I activate 'Joker's Straight' from my hand—discard a card to Special Summon 'Queen's Knight' from the Deck, then add 'King's Knight'. After that, I can Normal Summon a monster. I summon 'King's Knight' and activate its effect to call forth 'Jack's Knight' from my Deck!"
Yami Yugi discarded a card to activate 'Joker's Straight', instantly assembling all three of his tribute Knights.
"Three tributes... looks like you're aiming for 'Slifer' or 'Obelisk'. I won't let you do that so easily. I flip 'Trap Dustshoot'. You can only activate this when your opponent has four or more cards in hand. After checking your hand, choose one monster card in it and return it to its owner's Deck. Come on, show me!"
Yami Yugi displayed the remaining cards in his hand:
'Obelisk the Tormentor', 'Magicalized Fusion', 'Thunderspeed Summon', and 'Pot of Greed'.
"I choose 'Obelisk the Tormentor' to return to the Deck."
If he let Yugi Tribute Summon Obelisk and then use 'Magicalized Fusion' to make a Fusion Monster, Obelisk could Tribute two monsters to activate its effect and OTK—she couldn't allow that.
Nonetheless, she had no way to stop 'Thunderspeed Summon' or 'Pot of Greed'.
"Then I activate the Quick-Play Spell 'Thunderspeed Summon'. You can only activate this during either player's Main Phase or Battle Phase. It lets me Normal Summon a Level 10 monster.
"I don't have any Level 10 monsters in my hand, but if 'Queen's Knight', 'Jack's Knight', and 'King's Knight' are all on my field, this alternate effect applies—in other words—" Yami Yugi pulled a card from his Deck and slapped it onto the field. "Add a non-DARK Level 10 monster with ? ATK from the Deck to the hand. Then, I can Normal Summon a Level 10 monster. I search and summon 'Slifer the Sky Dragon'!"
At this point, no one knew how many times in the last few days the sky had erupted in divine omens; surely the meteorological staff had been fired eight or nine times by now.
Countless storm clouds swirled together into a vortex. From that dark mass, Slifer emerged with a roar that shook the soul.
"When thunder resounds in the chaos of the heavens, gather the ancient tomes of sorcery! Its power reaches infinity! I have two cards left in my hand, so Slifer's Attack is 2000. But then I activate 'Pot of Greed' and draw two more cards."
[Slifer the Sky Dragon, ATK: 2000 → 3000]
"Since you're drawing outside the Draw Phase, I draw two cards. By the way, since another 'Trap Dustshoot' just entered my Graveyard, 'Labrynth Archfiend' now has 4000 Attack.
"And thanks to its effect, you can't target 'Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle' for attacks. Even if you retrieve 'Joker's Straight' in your End Phase, you'll just ram into my 4000 Attack and both blow up."
Youmi knew she was tempting fate by saying something like that, but she genuinely wanted to see how Yami Yugi planned to break this board.
"I wasn't increasing my Attack just for that, Youmi." Yami Yugi looked at the two cards he had just drawn. "Using only a 'God' isn't enough to defeat you… that much is clear. So what I seek now is the hope of victory hidden within my Deck."
"I send a Level 6 or higher Spellcaster from my Deck to the Graveyard and activate 'Magician's Souls'—Special Summon a 'Dark Magician' from the Graveyard! And 'Dark Magical Circle' activates, banishing 'Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle'!"
He sent 'Magician's Souls' and another monster—one Youmi hadn't seen clearly—to the Graveyard. 'Dark Magician' returned to the field, triggering 'Dark Magical Circle'.
"I won't let you remove her so easily. I activate 'Interdimensional Matter Transporter' to banish 'Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle' until the end of the turn."
Dark Magician raised his staff; a beam of purple light fired from the Dark Magical Circle. Just before it struck, a strange device popped out from behind Youmi's disciples, warping Lovely Labrynth into subspace.
"I activate the effect of 'Welcome Labrynth'. Since a monster left the field due to my Normal Trap's effect while this card is in my Graveyard, I can Set it back onto my field." She returned her previously used 'Welcome Labrynth' from the Graveyard.
"I flip 'Dedication through Light and Darkness'. I Tribute 'Dark Magician' to Special Summon 'Dark Magician of Chaos' from my Deck. I activate its effect—when this card is Summoned, I can target a Spell Card in my Graveyard and add it to my hand. I add 'Card of Sanctity'."
Truly, Chaos Magician going from Forbidden to once-per-turn was more than justified.
"Next, I activate 'Magicalized Fusion'—banishing Spellcasters from my field or Graveyard as Fusion Materials to summon a Spellcaster Fusion Monster from the Extra Deck. I banish the Dark Magician, Dark Magician Girl, Magician's Souls, Apprentice Illusion Magician, and the Magician's Rod on my field to Fusion Summon 'Quintet Magician'!"
A magical circle spun before Yugi, opening a portal. From it stepped the Quintet Magician, controlling five rotating spell circles. With a casual gesture, he hurled a spell that blew Labrynth Archfiend to pieces.
"Quintet Magician can only be summoned by Fusion. Its materials must be five Spellcaster monsters—the ultimate culmination of magical mastery. If you Fusion Summon it using five different Spellcaster monsters, it activates its strongest effect: destroy all cards your opponent controls."
"Chain—Reckless Greed. I draw two cards and skip my next two Draw Phases!"
Youmi had no way to negate the effect, so her entire field was wiped clean.
Unable to be Tributed, unable to be used as Fusion Material, and immune to destruction by effects—in the DM era, Quintet Magician's resistances were among the strongest.
And now, it stood on Yami Yugi's field.
"I Set a card, then activate 'Card of Sanctity'—draw until I have six cards in hand! Then, Battle Phase! Youmi! I attack you directly with 'Quintet Magician'—Fivefold Magic!"
