Out of all the things I had ever heard that left me speechless in horror, what had just come out of Vivian's mouth was the most terrifying of all.
What kind of nonsense was she even spouting?
"Are you drunk?" I asked with a mocking smirk.
But Vivian suddenly gripped my hand tightly, her fingers trembling.
Her face looked utterly pitiful, and I knew she wasn't drunk.
"Viona… Raya… she… she has thalassemia. The doctor said she won't live long. She might not even make it to her first prom night, or a summer school trip. She needs a donor. And a biological sibling is the way to save her. Please, Viona… I'm begging you, please…"
She spoke in a rapid burst, tears pouring down her cheeks, overwhelming me.
My lips twitched, my chest tightening. I tried to pull my hand free, but she kept grabbing it again and again.
