Rafael's POV
My chest tightened, my jaw clenching hard enough that it made me want to throw her phone away.
But she had already pulled herself out of my grip, and that small movement scratched something uneasy inside my chest.
"It's…" She darted her gaze between me and her phone like a frightened kitten.
I sighed in frustration and grabbed the phone straight out of her hand, earning a sharp gasp from her. I couldn't let her deal with that bastard alone. He didn't even deserve to hear her breathing.
I slid my finger to answer the call and pressed the phone to my ear, waiting for him to speak first.
"Oh dear, I was afraid you wouldn't answer my call. But you kept your promise," he said, his voice buzzing with giddy excitement.
"I'll be there again tomorrow on the afternoon flight. Can you pick me up at the airport, sweetheart? I'll treat you to dinner. We can talk, just the two of us, at a sky-gazing restaurant. I've already made a reservation."
