Chapter 49 - Dominate Accident

[Blood Diary Entry]

After Rebekah too got out of the shower, skin glistening, hair still slightly damp, we decided to get the hell out of Chicago.

I was tempted to offer help drying her with my new powers, but not only would I possibly come across as a perv, but I'm not completely sure what divine flames would do to her.

Maybe some tweaking on my variant of the Igni sign might do the trick.

I'll look into that later.

Because what is magic if not the ultimate tool to make life easier?

I feel like saying that aloud would probably enrage everyone around me…

Anyhow, my Mom was already done packing and was now much steadier on her feet.

While she wasn't dead drunk, she was still somewhat wobbly before.

We picked up our stuff and got down to the parking lot—thankfully, no incident with the receptionist occurred, as this one was a true professional. Now that I think about it, most of the time we weren't actually bothered all that much during our travel.

Aside from the occasional cannibal ambushing us, that is.

So maybe it was that single town that had terribly mannered people?

Not that I care too much about it.

We loaded the SUV up and got into the car.

Once again, Rebekah was the one behind the wheel, especially now, because there was no way in hell I would let my drunk mother drive. She is sobering up, but I would like to avoid a car crash, thank you very much.

Mom decides to take the entire backseat as an improvised bed and almost instantly falls asleep, leaving me only the front seat as an alternative.

I sat beside Rebekah, who turned the keys on the ignition, making the car's engine roar to life.

We sped away without giving the mess we were most certainly leaving behind any further thought.

I look outside the window as buildings and skyscrapers blur past us, then a sudden thought dawns on me…

'Ah! I intended to order some silver claws or at least some more dignified silver weaponry.'

I sigh sadly.

Rebekah notices this and affectionately rubs the top of my head. I almost closed my eyes instinctively, though I didn't manage to stop all of my subconscious reactions as I leaned into her touch.

She giggled softly and kept caressing me.

I don't exactly know what went on during the few hours we spent apart, but she came back much clingier and more affectionate with me.

And that is awesome.

Life is actually at an all-time high right now. My locks were broken, I managed to even evolve further into my vampiric genes, my mother was safe, and I was actually traveling and entangled in a strange relationship with by far one of the most beautiful vampires.

All in all, life was pretty good for me.

If I had one thing to complain about, though… it would be my childish body.

I can clearly see I'm starting to grow on Rebekah, but we can't do much due to me being a kid.

Through my Higher Vampire shapeshifting—which was now enhanced by the Protean Discipline—I could turn into an adult in the blink of an eye. But not only would that be a somewhat illusory transformation, but I also feel like by doing so, I would greatly miss out on what Sol'Vahr gave his own life in order for me to experience.

I settle back into my seat, and I close my eyes.

Though I don't really need that much sleep, now even less so, it does feel good to just shut off my mind and not think about anything.

True, I could be spending my time more effectively by coming up with new ways to use my unlocked potential, as well as the gifts Caine left me with.

Even tried to understand this strange mark that now permanently made its home in my shoulder.

Despite all of that, I wasn't actually in a hurry.

I had time to grow. I had people who could even offer me invaluable insight. There also wasn't much of anything that could pose a serious threat to me at the moment. But most of all, I had the opportunity to actually enjoy the process of growth.

If I did rush, if I spent every waking hour pushing myself, it was very possible I could overlook a minute detail, that I wouldn't otherwise. After all, even the most impressive of buildings can fall if built atop a messy foundation.

So, I didn't see any reason to rush myself.

Thus, I drifted off into peaceful sleep.

Time quickly went by again, as the hours blurred together.

We once stopped by a roadside diner, and I have to say, it was easily one of the best meals I have ever eaten. Judging by Mom and Rebekah's faces, they were also enjoying it as much as I was.

The nice lady who owned the place seemed happy when we paid our compliments on the food.

So much so that she even gave us some peach pie slices free of charge.

She is indeed a nice lady.

By the end of it, I made a mental note of this place, because I sure am returning here sometime in the future.

Mom even managed to talk her way into getting that pie recipe.

Way to go, Mom!

We paid for our meal, and Rebekah, feeling generous, left a nice tip—I say nice, but it was around five hundred bucks extra. The owner thanked her again and again, but she just shrugged it off.

This time, Mom wanted to go behind the wheel, and Rebekah didn't seem to mind it, as she pulled me inside the car and nestled me in her embrace on the backseat.

Surprisingly, my mom didn't react to it this time and instead chose to focus on driving.

Half an hour on the road and I spotted a group of mean-looking bikers coming in the opposite direction. All of them reeked of trouble, and they all emanated the scent of human blood quite strongly, and scent wasn't only theirs… By the sight of it, they would be stopping for the diner we just left.

Wanting to spare that lady the hassle of dealing with such a crowd—and also wanting to try my own brand of compelling, because I admit I was always quite jealous of Rebekah's ability—through eye contact with the distant group, I influenced them to just keep on going ahead and ignore the diner.

I felt the command take hold, but my mastery proved lackluster, and something disastrous and at the same time quite funny happened.

The bikers on the back took the instruction too literally and just went full throttle on their bikes. Causing them to crash into the ones in front of them.

This resulted in every one of them getting into an accident.

We went by them without actually stopping and just minded our business.

I started whistling innocently, as if I did no wrong. Rebekah laughed amusedly, and my mother spent the next hour cussing me for my recklessness.

This time, I admit I kind of messed up.

But I'm sure they all deserved worse!

I think…
