Chapter 94 - Chapter 94

Orion, with Pikachu a bright yellow dot on his shoulder, followed Valeria and Franklin into a private room. The transition from the gala's gentle murmur to the heavy silence of the soundproofed space was immediate and striking. Dark wood paneling lined the walls, and plush leather chairs suggested serious conversations took place here. A single, large window framed the glittering Gotham skyline, a silent observer to the events unfolding inside. Bruce Wayne stood by a drinks cart, his posture still effortlessly elegant, but the charming, public smile had vanished. His eyes, now devoid of their earlier playful sparkle, held a calm, analytical intensity.

"Good evening, Mr. Oak, Valeria, Franklin," Bruce said, his voice smooth and even, completely lacking the animated quality he displayed in public. "Thank you for coming."

"Mr. Wayne," Orion responded, a polite nod accompanying his words. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you in a more... private setting."

Valeria offered a small, composed smile, while Franklin shifted his weight slightly, his hands tucked into his pockets. The air in the room felt thick with unspoken expectations, a stark contrast to the lively party outside.

"Indeed," Bruce agreed, his gaze sweeping over each of them before settling on Orion. "I understand you have a rather unique proposal concerning some of my family's properties."

"I am here to propose the widespread planting of special Berry seeds on suitable land," Orion began, his voice calm and direct, completely devoid of his usual playful riddles. "These berries will prepare the world for a coming transformation, an influx of wild Pokémon from other dimensions."

He gestured vaguely toward the window, where the Gotham skyline glittered with indifferent brilliance.

"The goal is to provide these Pokémon with natural, thriving habitats upon their arrival, integrating them into this world's ecosystems without ecological disruption," Orion continued. "Your family's extensive conservation lands, particularly those untouched by urban sprawl, would be ideal for this project."

Valeria nodded, her expression serious. Franklin remained quiet, observing Bruce with a steady gaze.

"Specifically, the seeds we cultivate enhance soil vitality and accelerate growth patterns, creating lush environments in a fraction of the time natural processes would require," Orion explained, adopting a more technical tone. "The berries themselves are non-invasive and provide a rich food source for many species. Our preliminary data indicates minimal risk of adverse ecological impact."

Bruce listened, his hands steepled, his eyes narrowed in thought.

"And the long-term effects on the local ecosystem?" Bruce asked, his voice low and precise. "You speak of 'integration.' What does that entail for existing flora and fauna? What happens to the native species when these 'Pokémon' arrive and consume these new food sources?"

"The intent is not replacement, but coexistence," Orion clarified, his gaze unwavering. "The Berry-enhanced lands will support both indigenous life and the incoming Pokémon. Think of it as expanding the planet's carrying capacity, a gentle augmentation rather than an invasive alteration."

He paused, letting his words hang in the air.

"We have observed these transformations in other worlds," Orion added, his voice holding a note of quiet authority. "The goal is always balance, a natural evolution of the ecosystem to accommodate new life forms."

Bruce's calm demeanor shifted. He leaned forward, his gaze hardening.

"How do you know so much about these 'Pokémon,' Mr. Oak?" Bruce pressed, his eyes piercing. "And how do you predict their 'impending arrival' with such certainty?"

"My knowledge comes from my purpose, Mr. Wayne," Orion replied, his conviction clear. "I am a custodian, a guide for these creatures, sent here to ensure their safe integration into this world."

He met Bruce's gaze directly.

"It is my responsibility, a task given to me by a higher power, to foster harmony between humans and Pokémon," Orion stated, his voice firm. "I assure you, my intentions are purely benevolent."

"A 'higher power'?" Bruce repeated, a hint of skepticism entering his tone. "And your origins, Mr. Oak? The source of this unique knowledge you possess?"

Orion's expression softened, becoming more abstract. "My past is a winding road, a journey through many cycles," he mused. "But my purpose here, in this moment, is clear: to prepare this world for its destiny."

"Some might call it fate, others, a grand design," Orion added, a faint, almost imperceptible smile touching his lips. "I am simply an instrument of that design."

"The logistics, Mr. Oak, are immense," Bruce stated, his voice a low rumble. "We're talking about deploying an unknown number of interdimensional creatures onto private lands, even conservation lands. There are legal liabilities, ecological impact assessments, and public perception to manage."

"And the potential benefits, Mr. Wayne, are even greater," Orion countered, his tone unwavering. "Imagine thriving ecosystems, rejuvenated biodiversity, and a new era of understanding between humanity and these amazing creatures. Gotham could lead the way."

Valeria chimed in, "The data from our initial tests shows the Berry seeds rapidly enrich the soil, boosting nutrient cycles and supporting denser plant life. It is not just about accommodating new species, but enhancing the existing ones."

"Think of the scientific breakthroughs, Mr. Wayne," Franklin added, his voice earnest. "New energy sources, medical applications, even advancements in agricultural technology. The possibilities are, quite literally, endless."

Bruce tapped a finger against his chin, his gaze moving between Orion and the two Richards children. "And the management of this new population? What assurances can you provide that these 'Pokémon' will not become a danger to the citizens of Gotham, or indeed, the planet?"

"My mission is to foster harmony," Orion explained, his voice calm and firm. "Pokémon Home acts as a sanctuary, a place where these creatures can thrive under careful supervision. We will implement strict protocols for population control and safe integration, working closely with your experts to establish a comprehensive management plan."

"We could establish a joint task force," Valeria suggested, her eyes bright with enthusiasm. "Wayne Enterprises and the Fantastic Four, collaborating on ecological oversight and population monitoring. My father, Mr. Fantastic, would be eager to contribute his expertise."

Bruce considered her words, a thoughtful silence descending upon the room. The Gotham skyline seemed to sparkle a little brighter, as if in anticipation.

"A joint task force, then," Bruce finally said, a faint, almost imperceptible nod of his head. "Under strict Wayne Enterprises oversight and with full transparency on all ecological and safety protocols. Any new Pokémon introduced to the lands will be documented, and any potential threats will be mitigated immediately."

"Of course," Orion agreed, a relaxed smile touching his lips. "Complete transparency and collaboration are paramount. We will work together to ensure a safe and prosperous future for all."

Bruce extended his hand, a flicker of something akin to admiration in his eyes. "Then we have a deal, Mr. Oak."

Orion clasped Bruce's hand firmly. A silent understanding passed between the two men, a shared commitment to a future that, only moments before, seemed impossible. The tense atmosphere in the room began to lighten, replaced by a sense of professional respect and mutual purpose. Pikachu let out a soft, contented pika-pika from Orion's shoulder, as if confirming the agreement.
