Chapter 179 - Chapter 179: Achievement Sequences

Chapter 179: Achievement Sequences

"Hatch my first dragon," Ian used the word "my" deliberately. "No matter how foolish Viserys was, he still had king's blood flowing in his veins. If my assessment of the hatching conditions for dragon eggs is correct, his blood is enough to bring forth a dragon.

Before we sail to Astapor, this dragon will grow to be recognizable as a dragon, and then it can be used as leverage to negotiate for eight thousand Unsullied."

"But how do you plan to convince Daenerys to walk into the flames that burn Viserys with the dragon egg? She can't possibly die with her brother, can she?"

"The question you asked doesn't quite match the intelligence you displayed in Pentos, Celia," Ian narrowed his eyes. "Should I reassess your value, or should I give you a chance to prove yourself?"

"I..." Celia lowered her head. "I will help you persuade her."

"That's more like it," Ian clapped his hands. "Compared to the NPCs the system provides, isn't your greatest advantage that I don't have to teach you everything?"

"Without your direct orders, I wouldn't dare to approach your Queen," she said, the emphasis on 'Queen' odd. "What if you took it as ill intent? Wouldn't my life be over?" Celia seemed to have found Ian's boundaries, her tone becoming boldly sarcastic.

"So from now on, before you do anything, if there's anything you're unsure about that might arouse my suspicion, come and explain it to me beforehand. Only do it after you get my permission.

Also," Ian said, picking Celia up in his arms and carrying her into the cabin, "don't use that tone when you mention Her Grace the Queen to me."

"What do you want to do?"

"Learn Valyrian."

"Are you insane? Aren't you afraid of her?" Celia hissed in alarm.

"Of course I'm not afraid," Ian interrupted her directly, entering the cabin, placing her on the bed, and closing the wooden door behind him. "I went to great lengths to bring her out of Pentos, not to find myself a master.

No one in this world can be my master. Everything here is mine—this ship, the sellswords and sailors on board, the treasure and provisions in the hold, the dragon eggs, you and Daenerys—all of it is mine."

The next morning, Ian woke very early, but his mind was perfectly clear.

In fact, Ian had noticed before that since he had gradually increased his mental attribute, he could always recover a lot of energy through brief sleep.

He glanced at Celia beside him. She was breathing evenly, sleeping soundly, her arms wrapped tightly around one of Ian's arms, a serene smile on her face, as if she were having pleasant dreams.

You're sleeping soundly, Ian thought to himself.

But this was natural. Since Celia had been with him, her situation was much safer than before.

Any player who might threaten her would be dealt with by him, and she only needed to worry about threats from him.

But she had clearly already established her boundaries. As long as she obediently stayed close and remained within his sight without betraying him, there was absolutely nothing to worry about—at least not until the final victory was declared. There was no need to worry about him turning on her.

Ian gently withdrew his hand from Celia's embrace, not wanting to disturb her. After all, he had studied Advanced Valyrian with her until late last night, and she was indeed exhausted.

What? The process? There's nothing interesting about the process. What's so fascinating about learning a foreign language? I've never seen you all this attentive in class!

After sitting up, Ian began to check the previous day's settlement report as usual.

The number of remaining players had now reached twenty-six, and the time for the removal of the leaderboard and the opening of Bounty Mission 3 was gradually approaching—

Or perhaps not so close, since the rate of player elimination had completely slowed down recently.

If he hadn't killed two in Pentos, the player elimination progress would have almost stopped entirely.

After checking the settlement report, Ian, who was about to log out of the system, suddenly discovered that there were still several messages in his inbox. He hadn't seen them when he checked yesterday morning.

But didn't he fail to complete any missions yesterday? Ian, puzzled, opened the messages one by one.

[Successfully killed Viserys, achieving the advanced achievement 'Kingslayer', gaining 50 points and 1 Mysterious Dream Dungeon Opening Scroll]

[Successfully stole items worth over 1,000 gold dragons, achieving the beginner achievement 'Thief' and gaining 3 skill points, 5 points, and 1 basic skill selection scroll.]

[Successfully stole items worth over 10,000 gold dragons, achieving the intermediate achievement 'Master Thief' and gaining 20 points and 1 skill upgrade scroll (this scroll can upgrade any skill below Legendary level by one tier).]

The updated stat card is as follows:

[Ian: Strength 35, Agility 27, Spirit 22 Skills: Basic Etiquette, Basic Common Tongue Reading and Writing, Sword Mastery, Advanced Horsemanship, Intermediate Lance, Intermediate Shapeshifter, Greenseer Basic Attribute Points: 0 Skill Points: 5 Points: 151 Items: Basic Skill Selection Scroll ×2 Skill Upgrade Scroll ×2 Dream Dungeon Opening Scroll ×1]

Huh? Ian blinked, a little taken aback, as this settlement was truly unexpected.

In Ian's original plan, his biggest gains from this trip to Pentos were Daenerys and the dragon eggs themselves, followed by the treasure worth tens of thousands of gold dragons he stole from Illyrio.

After all, this operation wasn't mission-driven, so he hadn't expected any extra rewards.

Unexpectedly, the system actually awarded him three achievements.

And judging from the scoring system, it seemed that these achievements, which weren't shown to players before being completed, were the biggest source of points for players.

The point requirement for a player to declare victory was a full 10,000 points, while Ian, as the top scorer, had only managed a mere three digits so far. Relying solely on the meager points from main quests and player kills, achieving victory was simply impossible.

In comparison, grinding achievements might be more efficient.

With this in mind, Ian decided to carefully examine these so-called achievements.

After clicking into the system's achievement menu, Ian saw the achievements he had already unlocked.

There were six achievements already completed: [Beginner, Butcher], [Beginner, 'Path to Nobility - Promotion'], [Intermediate, Path to Nobility - Second Only to the King], [Advanced, Kingslayer], [Beginner, Thief], and [Intermediate, Master Thief].

Ian further divided these achievements into four sequences based on the methods used to achieve them: personally killing players, advancing in rank within the feudal hierarchy, eliminating native targets, and stealing valuables.

Killing players was straightforward.

As for advancing in rank, if even Hand of the King was only at the intermediate level, then either this sequence was capped at intermediate, or the advanced achievement required becoming King.

Eliminating native targets was Ian's speculation. Since the advanced level required killing a King, the intermediate level would likely be killing an Earl or Duke, and the beginner level a Lord or Knight.

No, not a knight. Ian immediately dismissed the idea, because the sellsword captain Camel, whom Rol killed on the day he arrived in this world, was a knight. And considering that his archer's kill of Viserys counted as his own, Rol's kills should also count.

But the system hadn't yet awarded this achievement, meaning the intermediate achievement level should be killing a high-ranking noble (a lord paramount or great lord), while the basic level was killing a landed knight or minor lord, not just any knight.

Then there was the most important achievement: the "Thief" achievement.

Clearly, because Ian had preemptively distracted the Unsullied guarding Illyrio's manse, preventing Rol and his group from engaging in combat, their loot from Illyrio's manse was recorded as 'theft' rather than 'plunder.'

So why did Ian say this was the most important? Because this specific stealing achievement seemed tailor-made for players who chose the rogue class at the start.

Following this line of thought, did the developers create exclusive achievements for each class?

If so, and these customized achievements were also achievable by players who chose other starting classes, then he could try to unlock those achievements by exploring the different class progression paths, thereby obtaining a large number of points and system items.
