The initial searing pain and anguish that overwhelmed Chuck was replaced by something else — something he couldn't quite fathom. The nerves in his body didn't register the torrent of flames bombarding his being, and his vision started to blur slightly.
Before Chuck could get an idea of what was going on, the surrounding areas before him darkened as his body felt limp. The next instant, his body dropped to the ground, the divine essence of the Infernal shroud that once shielded and protected his being from harm's way dispersed into oblivion.
The pulsating organ that oscillated violently in his chest began to slow down, and Chuck felt his consciousness slip away gradually. But before he passed away completely, he heard a familiar "ding" sound in his head, which signified that a system message had emerged. But Chuck was too weak and light-headed to open his eyes, he didn't know what the last message was, and everything darkened, as his senses ceased to exist.
