Emily woke to her phone ringing...not the gentle alarm she'd set, but an actual call. She grabbed it groggily, squinting at the screen.
Unknown number. Cloud City area code.
She answered cautiously. "Hello?"
"Miss Blackwood?" A professional female voice. "This is Dr. Sarah Chen from City General Hospital. I'm calling about your father, Harold Smith. His condition has deteriorated significantly overnight. He's asking for you specifically. The family is here, but he's... quite insistent that he needs to speak with you. Urgently."
Emily sat up, suddenly wide awake. Timothy stirred beside her, immediately alert.
"How bad is his condition?" Emily asked.
"Critical," Dr. Chen said quietly. "His heart is failing. We're keeping him stable with medication, but Miss Blackwood....it would be advisable to come soon if you want to speak with him while he's still conscious and lucid."
