Emily sat in front of her laptop, secure connection established, waiting for Scholar Chen to join the video call. Timothy sat beside her. Jack had sent Scholar Chen a brief summary of the situation beforehand.
The screen connected. Scholar Chen's silhouette appeared, backlit as always.
"Princess," Scholar Chen said without preamble. "Your cousin is brave but reckless. Victoria may be young, but she's ruthless. If Alexander moves openly against Marcus, he'll be dead within a week."
"I know," Emily said miserably. "But the documents he mentioned—if they prove Marcus's treason...."
"They do exist," Scholar Chen interrupted. "I know because your mother contacted me about them."
Emily's world stopped. "What?"
