Chapter 17 - Naunax

Somewhere in Tokyo,

A man leaped from a small building and drove his sword straight into the multi-headed cursed spirit, which was struck in the narrow passage of the dark street.

It resisted for a few seconds before disappearing gradually as it got disintegrated into the air.

The man wiped the blood from his face and slid his sword back into its scabbard.

'As time goes by, I'm getting paid less. Fewer curses mean fewer people need exorcism and thus a lower salary for me. High-ranking sorcerers still earn a lot of money,' he clicked his tongue, thinking of it.

"I wonder what kind of luxurious food they eat daily." He sighed and stepped out of the alley.

As he came out, sunlight washed over his face, its warmth comforting him, as he had been struggling in that narrow, cold alley for more than two hours.

"That curse made this place very cold." He looked behind as the sunlight poured into the street, wiping darkness from existence now that the curse was gone.

He walked a few steps further on the pavement before his watch started to vibrate, forcing him to check it.

He turned his wrist and accepted the call from Jujutsu Headquarters immediately as soon as his brain got the signal through his eyes. It's a strict rule that you can't cut the call from the association.

"It's an emergency. Tokyo is under alien attack. If you encounter any person with three eyes, stop and restrain him immediately and ensure no harm comes to civilians. Do not use any lethal force unless there is absolutely no other option."

Before he could ask anything from his side, the call disconnected.

He wanted to ask if there was any special reward or something like that, because they are asking him to protect civilians and risk his life for them.

But the message conveyed an immediate order for him that he couldn't ignore or disobey.

"I hope that I don't encounter any monster-level alien who severs my head instantly, just like what happens in novels."

He gulped in fear, imagining how it would feel to be killed by an alien.

As he was thinking about it, air around him started to blow faster, carrying dust with it.

An ominous shadow replaced the warm sunlight, dropping the temperature.

A chill ran down his spine as he raised his head and saw a spaceship, as massive as a whole town, slowly shadowing the whole sky above him.

As far as he could see in the sky, everything was covered by spaceship, which blocked all of the sunlight, turning the noon into the dusk.

All people stared into the sky that was no longer blue but 'black,' which resembled the color of the spaceship above.

People trembled when the spaceship stopped moving. It was Naunax—a 'UFO' responsible for bringing all fifty thousand Simurians on earth from a planet many light-years away.

A large hole was created intentionally in the bottom of the spaceship, flooding the air below with light. Then, one by one, all Simurians started to descend from the spaceship as the gravity pulled them down gently onto the earth. It was the magic of antigravity.

That jujutsu sorcerer, who was gazing at the spaceship, took out his sword as aliens started to come down.

"Everyone, it's a request to all of you that you please hide in the safest place near you. And don't come out until I say."

He shouted with all of his strength to make his voice go as far as it could. His eyes were focused on Japaloma as he was the first to descend.

He took a quick glance at the surroundings to ensure that all civilians were secure, but as he saw all of them still standing and gawking at the spaceship, he roared even more loudly this time.

"Please! All of you, go and hide!! I'm a jujutsu sorcerer. I don't want any of you to get harmed. So please!"

This time, his voice carried desperateness. As soon as people heard the words 'jujutsu' and 'sorcerer,' they immediately ran toward the shops and buildings to hide.

Soon, the roads were all cleared. He was standing alone when Japaloma finally stepped onto the ground. He was quite similar to the Tengen, as his body shape was the same as his.

Cross was second to arrive, followed by Maru and the other Simurians. There were many Simurians in the spaceship, so it took several minutes for everyone to disembark.

Then, Japaloma stepped forward, looking at the human who stood before him alone, gripping the sword tightly in his hands.

His sword blade quivered as his hands trembled, his body refusing to lift it against the entire army standing before him. At that moment, the light and well-balanced katana felt like a thousand-kilo rod to him.

A simurian appeared behind Japaloma, who was smiling sinisterly after looking at the quivering human before him.

"Human, if you wish to live, I advise you to surrender before us," Japaloma said, his face calm like still water.

Thud.

Before that human could process a single word from Japaloma, his head was already severed, and it hit the ground, rolling away.

After a second, as his headless body also slammed the earth, a Simurian was revealed behind him, laughing evilly.

"We don't need this weakling," he said. "Slaughter all the useless humans, the same way they did to the Kaliyans."

He stepped forward and placed his foot onto the head of the sorcerer and toyed with it a little by rolling it a few times and then sent it flying to Japaloma's feet with a sharp kick.

Japaloma glanced at the head for a moment. The weight of the foot had crushed it enough that one eye bulged from its socket, hanging by a few fragile nerves.

"Who told you to cut down his head?!" Maru shouted at the Simurian before him and clenched his fists. He still respected the lives of humans.

He actually never wanted a war.

But after Simurians got to know that humans slaughter the beings that they call 'curses,' they instantly went for a war.

For them, these curses were Kaliyans.
