Chapter 189 - So he had decided to take it back and cook it.

However, what Riven didn't know was that the commander of this unit had secretly hired a Zaunite alchemist to develop a vicious chemical weapon.

Her swordsmen were escorting a convoy filled with fragile ceramic containers.

Riven didn't understand what use such breakable objects could possibly have in war.

But having accepted the mission, she could only see it through.

Traveling through the unfamiliar province of Navori was already difficult. Escorting fragile cargo made it worse. Then they were caught in a violent storm.

The storm triggered a mudslide. Against such a natural disaster, even an elite swordsman unit was powerless. The convoy was overturned, and the containers were scattered everywhere.

Misfortune never comes alone. Not long after the disaster, a second blow arrived.

A group of Ionian warriors — even more elite than those on the main battlefield — discovered them and surrounded them.

Outnumbered, Riven could only grit her teeth and fight.

Her Rune Blade was as wide as a shield and bore the enchantment of the Pale Lady. In her hands, it was unstoppable. But her subordinates were not as fortunate.

Watching her comrades fall one after another, Riven realized her strength alone was not enough to break through.

She decided to call for reinforcements.

There was no shame in asking for support on the battlefield. If reinforcements arrived, victory would follow.

But when her signal went out, the only response was a flaming arrow.

The fire arrow traced a long arc from the far side of the ridge.

The moment Riven saw it, she understood.

They had been used.

Her unit had been nothing more than bait tied to an explosive — the true planners had been walking with them all along, waiting for this moment to trigger it.

This was no longer a war of expansion. It was slaughter — at any cost.

Even their elite unit had been offered up as expendable sacrifice.

Riven instinctively raised her massive Rune Blade to shield herself.

The arrow struck the rear carriage.

An explosion followed, and the contents of the containers were released.

A searing toxic mist spread rapidly across the battlefield.

Both Ionian warriors and Riven's own soldiers were engulfed. The gas burned and corroded everything it touched. Cries of agony filled the air as people collapsed, unable to escape the effects.

The scene became a nightmare.

Only Riven survived, protected by the enchantment on her Rune Blade.

When she finally staggered out of the poisoned area, she looked at the weapon in her hand — and felt no gratitude.

Only hatred.

She had fought for Noxus across countless battlefields, earning glory after glory. Those who surrendered to her had been spared. To her, war had always meant territorial expansion — not this.

Today, she had seen betrayal. She had seen the filth behind Noxus's ambitions.

"I'll break this sword… and never fight with these hands again."

She slammed the Rune Blade against a stone with brute force, trying to damage it.

The stone shattered.

The blade remained flawless.

After all, it had been personally bestowed and enchanted — it would not break so easily.

She tried stomping on it, striking it again and again.

Nothing.

It was as if fate mocked her. She wanted to stop fighting, yet the weapon remained intact.

"No… I won't accept this! I must break it. I have to prove my resolve!"

A voice spoke behind her.

"You want to shatter the Rune Blade? That's easy. I can help."

Riven turned.

A young man stood there, holding a massive egg, a white-haired woman at his side.

It was Xu Dan.

After returning from Tony's place, he often logged into League of Legends. With Syndra, he had wandered Ionia for a long time, eventually finding a dragon's nest, slaying a Purgatory Drake, and taking one of its eggs.

For some reason, the egg no longer hatched.

So he had decided to take it back and cook it.

He couldn't even remember how the internal code handled something like eating dragon eggs.

But the shell was extremely hard. Ordinary tools couldn't crack it.

Passing through this area, he happened to see Riven trying to destroy her blade.

"What are you?" Riven asked, wary.

She had just escaped the toxic mist — and the clothes of these two didn't look Ionian at all.
