Chapter 58 - "The Radiant Prince" 2

Three days after SCP-7007 received its official designation, no one within the Foundation could answer a single essential question.

What was SCP-7007?

How had it appeared?

And perhaps most disturbing...

Why had it seemingly waited for them?

Secure Facility Site-7007-Ω

The containment chamber stood ready.

Every wall hummed with synchronized Scranton Reality Anchors.

Temperature remained fixed at -21°C.

Blue-white lighting illuminated the room with an almost perpetual twilight.

No reflective surfaces existed anywhere inside the facility.

Researchers referred to the chamber as The Silent Court.

It had been built for an entity no one had yet contained.

Meanwhile...

The crystalline palace remained unchanged.

Every drone sent inside disappeared after approaching the great staircase.

Ground teams could advance no closer than five hundred meters before suffering severe psychological symptoms.

Personnel described identical sensations.

Peace.

Acceptance.

An overwhelming certainty that resisting the entity would be... impolite.

Not impossible.

Simply wrong.

Dr. Helena Strauss reviewed hundreds of interviews.

"They aren't brainwashed."

Director Reed folded his arms.

"No?"

"They're... persuaded."

She pointed toward a neurological scan.

"No abnormal neural activity."

"No implanted thoughts."

"No memetic trigger."

"They simply arrive at the conclusion that SCP-7007 deserves obedience."

Reed looked at the frozen palace displayed on the monitor.

"A king without a kingdom."

Strauss quietly corrected him.

"...Or one waiting for his kingdom."

The Foundation approved Operation WHITE CROWN.

Objective:

Establish peaceful communication.

Personnel:

Captain Elias Warren.

Dr. Helena Strauss.

Linguist Dr. Farid Rahman.

Two members of MTF Alpha-1.

One autonomous reconnaissance drone.

No weapons beyond standard defensive equipment.

Orders were absolute.

Do not provoke the entity.

Do not threaten it.

Do not accept gifts.

Do not kneel.

The expedition crossed the frozen valley at dawn.

Snow fell without touching the ground.

Instead, each snowflake dissolved into tiny blue sparks.

The palace towered above them.

Its architecture shifted whenever someone looked away.

Columns became trees.

Windows became stars.

Entire hallways appeared where solid walls had stood moments before.

Reality behaved less like matter...

And more like memory.

At precisely four hundred meters from the staircase...

A voice echoed through the valley.

Soft.

Gentle.

Every member of the expedition heard it in their native language.

"You have traveled far."

No one could identify the speaker.

The voice seemed to originate everywhere at once.

Captain Warren steadied himself.

"This is Captain Elias Warren of the SCP Foundation."

"We request peaceful dialogue."

Silence.

Then...

"I know."

The palace doors opened.

Without anyone touching them.

Standing at the top of the staircase...

Was SCP-7007.

Silver-white hair drifted despite the absence of wind.

His pale cloak shimmered like freshly fallen snow beneath moonlight.

A crystalline ornament upon his chest pulsed with deep sapphire light.

His violet eyes rested calmly upon the expedition.

No hostility.

No curiosity.

Only quiet recognition.

As though greeting guests expected long ago.

Every camera focused on the entity.

Foundation analysts immediately noticed something impossible.

The footage could not determine SCP-7007's exact height.

Each recording displayed a different measurement.

1.78 meters.

1.91 meters.

2.04 meters.

Some cameras reported no measurable body at all.

The image existed.

The numbers refused to agree.

Captain Warren stepped forward.

"I am authorized to communicate."

SCP-7007 smiled faintly.

"You have already been speaking."

The statement confused everyone.

Dr. Strauss checked the audio logs.

For nearly six seconds...

No recording equipment captured human speech.

Yet every witness remembered Captain Warren introducing himself.

Reality itself had apparently edited the conversation.

The entity descended the staircase.

Each step caused frost to bloom across ancient stone.

Flowers of crystal emerged beneath his feet before fading moments later.

He stopped exactly ten meters away.

"I have heard many names."

"They are all incomplete."

Captain Warren asked carefully,

"What should we call you?"

The silver-haired figure looked toward the pale sky.

"I once possessed a name."

"It belonged to another age."

His eyes returned to the Foundation team.

"You may continue using your number."

"SCP-7007."

"I find it... practical."

Dr. Rahman activated a translation scanner.

Every language database malfunctioned instantly.

Although SCP-7007 spoke flawless English...

The scanner simultaneously identified his speech as Latin.

Ancient Greek.

Old Norse.

Classical Chinese.

Arabic.

And twelve extinct languages.

The words changed depending on who listened.

Meaning remained identical.

Dr. Strauss asked the question everyone feared.

"What are you?"

For the first time...

SCP-7007 hesitated.

Snow drifted silently between them.

"I am..."

The sentence never finished.

Instead...

Every person present witnessed something different.

Captain Warren saw a king.

Dr. Strauss saw a lonely child seated upon a frozen throne.

The Alpha-1 soldiers saw an impossible battlefield buried beneath snow.

The reconnaissance drone transmitted only blinding white light.

Whatever SCP-7007 truly was...

The human mind refused to perceive it consistently.

After several moments...

The Radiant Prince spoke again.

"I apologize."

"You are still too small."

No one took offense.

Oddly...

Everyone understood exactly what he meant.

Director Reed listened through the encrypted radio.

"Ask him why he came."

Captain Warren obeyed.

"Why have you appeared here?"

The Prince gazed across the endless ice.

"I did not arrive."

"You reached me."

Every reality anchor throughout the Arctic briefly surged beyond operational limits.

Site-7007 detected microscopic fractures in local spacetime.

Yet nothing physically changed.

Only one realization settled over every observing researcher.

Perhaps...

The palace had always existed.

Humanity had simply become capable of noticing it.

As the conversation neared its end, SCP-7007 extended one gloved hand.

A single snowflake formed above his palm.

Unlike ordinary snow...

It did not melt.

It did not freeze.

It simply remained.

Perfect.

Timeless.

"I offer no threat."

"I offer remembrance."

Captain Warren refused to take the crystalline snowflake, following Foundation protocol.

The Prince nodded with quiet approval.

"A wise refusal."

"Boundaries preserve both kingdoms."

With that, he stepped backward.

The palace doors closed.

The valley returned to silence.

The expedition withdrew without casualties.

No personnel displayed signs of hypnosis, possession, or cognitive corruption.

Yet medical examinations revealed one impossible anomaly.

Every member of the mission had forgotten the sound of SCP-7007's voice.

They remembered every word.

Every sentence.

Every pause.

But when asked to describe his voice...

No one could.

Audio recordings contained only wind.

Three hours later, O5 Command reviewed the mission.

The containment file received several immediate revisions.

Addendum 7007-01

* SCP-7007 demonstrates intelligence exceeding previous estimates.

* Entity willingly engaged in peaceful dialogue.

* Entity appears fully aware of Foundation operations before contact.

* Conventional ontological models may be insufficient.

* All future interviews require approval from the O5 Council.

At the bottom of the report, Director Reed wrote a final note in his own hand.

«"The entity never attempted to escape because it never believed it was imprisoned."»

Far beyond the containment perimeter, within the silent halls of the crystalline palace, the Radiant Prince stood alone beside a frozen window.

Without looking back, he spoke into the empty hall.

"They have remembered enough."

A second voice, ancient and unseen, answered from somewhere deeper within the palace.

"For now."

The Prince slowly closed his eyes.

Outside, the snowfall intensified.

And beneath the endless Arctic ice...

Something enormous shifted in its sleep.
