Chapter 662: Humans vs. Death Gods
A Death God Down, a New Threat Up
In a flash of lightning, a Death God's head was separated from its body.
This sight made the eyes of the remaining Death Gods contract in shock and disbelief.
Teleportation?
Instantaneous, un-telegraphed spatial jump?
And that sword—it actually managed to cleave a Death God's body!
Having landed the first strike, Diana didn't retreat but charged toward the others. The Sword of Hephaestus glowed faintly red, radiating an aura of ferocity.
"You seek death!"
A Death God resembling a fish-man opened its right hand, and a dark scythe materialized in its palm.
Clang!
The scythe and the sword clashed, erupting in a powerful shockwave.
Another Death God transformed into a shadow and adhered itself to Diana's back. Its eyes became swirling vortexes, attempting to erode her divine soul.
Just then, a deafening Dragon roar erupted from below.
Eighteen fiery Dragons bellowed at the sky, scattering the dark clouds. On top of a Dragon's head, the now-giant-sized Luke drew back a bow. Green flame condensed, forming an arrow that then transformed into crackling lightning.
Whoosh!
The lightning split the air and struck the Death God that was shadowing Diana.
The pain of the burning soul made the Death God shudder. Diana seized the chance to flash away, shaking off the shadow on her back.
"Be careful! These guys' abilities are extremely bizarre!" Luke shouted.
"Cover me!"
Clark took the lead, his body a blur tearing through the air, leaving a series of sonic booms. He had finally mastered the lesson from his fight with the Underworld Dragon: maximum speed yields maximum power.
He was too fast.
The Fish-man Death God didn't even have time to react before Clark struck its left cheek.
Crack!
The cheekbone shattered, collapsing inward. Its head was nearly blown apart by the punch.
It roared in pain and smashed into the ground like a meteor.
Arcane Archery and Soul Poison
Eight Death Gods, and three were injured in a blink—it was ridiculous. The remaining five dared not hold back, immediately unleashing their signature skills: one transformed into a three-headed giant beast, one into a constantly wriggling black liquid, one merged with the void, one drew a bow woven from death and lightning, and the last one spewed black mist.
The mist expanded, possessing the power to drain life and dissolve souls. If a mortal touched it, they would instantly turn to bone. However, no one present was an ordinary person.
Clark ignored the black mist, grabbed the Three-headed Giant's neck, and violently hurled it into the distance.
A red flash streaked across the sky.
Diana appeared behind the Giant. Her sword flashed, and another head flew into the air. Suddenly, the crackling sound of electricity erupted near her ear. An arrow wrapped in black lightning silently appeared, aimed right at her heart.
The Soul-Devouring Arrow!
Designed to pierce the flesh and extinguish the soul.
This was the specialty of Death God Carmor. During the War of the Gods, seventeen Human Gods were slain by this arrow.
Diana froze in place, completely unprepared for the attack. Red light flared on her armor, but it was too late. At the critical moment, an arrow permeated with green lightning appeared in the Soul-Devouring Arrow's path.
Boom!
Arrow met arrow. Black and green light collided, and the resulting shockwave sent Diana reeling backward.
Death God Carmor turned and stared expressionlessly at Luke. Luke glared back coldly.
"Your bow is nice. I'm taking it."
"Human, you are too arrogant."
Carmor nocked an arrow and instantly fired dozens of them. Luke sneered, opened six more arms, and unleashed a torrent of dense green lightning arrows, a true storm that exceeded the number of Carmor's arrows.
Simultaneously, the eighteen Fire Dragons opened their mouths and lunged at the Death Gods from all directions.
The scene instantly became chaotic.
The Giant Beast Death God shattered a Dragon's head with a punch. The flame refused to disperse, reforming into the Dragon's head, which then bit the Giant's neck. The long, slender Dragon body coiled around its limbs like ropes.
"Damn it! What kind of power is this?!"
The Giant Beast unleashed its divine power, forcefully breaking free of the Fire Dragons and flying into the sky. Its welcome was a red streak cutting across the heavens. The sword blade sliced through the air, leaving a faint smoky trail. The world seemed to flip as another head dropped to the ground. The horrific sight sent chills down the spine.
"Humans, you are too insolent!"
A cold voice rang out in the air, followed by a streak of blurred motion.
Pfft!
A bloody cut appeared on Clark's chest. The wound rapidly festered, and his blood turned black. The next second, a blade flashed, and his back split open, revealing an eight-inch-long wound from which thick, putrid-smelling blood poured out.
"Poison?"
Clark clutched his chest, coughing painfully. His limbs gradually grew numb, and his senses became sluggish.
Sensing the danger, J'onn rushed forward but was intercepted by the Fish-man Death God. Diana was entangled with the Black Liquid Death God and couldn't break free.
Luke frowned slightly. While trading shots with Carmor, he directed four Fire Dragons to provide aid, but to no effect. The Death God hiding in the void was like a venomous snake, leaving a new wound on Clark every time it flashed past.
The attack wasn't strong, but it carried an incredibly potent poison.
The toxin continuously eroded Clark's body, tormenting him, making him fatigued, weak, and causing him to lose sensation and self-awareness.
"Human, tell me the location of the tentacles, and I will spare you."
Clark clenched his jaw, fighting the poison within his body with all his strength.
"It's useless. Even Gods can't withstand my poison, much less you."
"Surrender. There's no need to continue. We are Death Gods, not butchers. If you submit, you will be fine."
Clark remained silent, his muscles taut. His blood surged like a flood in his veins. Blood sprayed from his wounds, but the color was subtly changing: from the original pitch black, to purplish-brown, and now a dark green.
The poison was being stripped from his body. His cells were undergoing regeneration, orchestrated by the Codex of Life. The infected cells rapidly withered, and antibody-producing cells automatically duplicated, replacing the original tissue.
The rotting muscle sloughed off his body, replaced by fresh, red granulation tissue.
Clark opened his eyes and suddenly reached forward.
Pfft!
His forearm was sliced by a blade, leaving a mass of fresh blood, but he ignored it. He spread his fingers and forcefully grabbed the hidden attacker from the void.
"How is that possible?!"
A shriek echoed in the air. "Your body... impossible!"
Clark clenched his left hand and punched forward with all his might.
Bang!
The air burst with a visible shockwave. Punch after punch, punch after punch, he struck the same spot dozens of times. With the final blow, he punched through entirely.
A figure emerged: the Death God responsible for the poison. A large hole was visible in its chest, and the surrounding tissue was pulverized into a bloody paste by the shockwaves. The God was gravely weak. Unlike the others, he had been a Death God for less than a thousand years and had come to the battlefield to prove himself. He had never expected to encounter such a freak.
His toxin, which even Gods couldn't withstand, had been defeated by a human. It was truly unbelievable.
Clark snorted, grabbing the Death God's neck and hurling him toward Luke's position.
Diana flashed across the void and severed the Death God's neck with her sword. J'onn used his psychic ability to forcibly slow the Death God's senses.
Luke opened his right hand. The surrounding green flame converged like a flock of returning birds, compressing and condensing, gradually forming an inwardly collapsing vortex.
He was going to slay a God!
