Chapter 656: Hanyue
The Moon Goddess Appears
A black spot appeared in the sky, rapidly approaching. It was an endless, giant tentacle.
The tentacle traversed the sky like a divine dragon, with the purplish-red glowing bone-flower plain beneath it. The two elements combined to form a picture that was both brutal and beautiful.
At the tip of the tentacle appeared a woman. Black hair, black eyes, her long hair draped behind her shoulders, revealing an infinitely beautiful body. Her beauty was suffocating, like a celestial maiden fallen from the nine heavens—a single glance made one feel ashamed.
As the woman sang, a bright moon materialized in the sky.
The moonlight was cold and serene. It passed through the body, guiding the soul into a beautiful corridor of dreams.
Clark and J'onn fell from the sky, lying on the ground, deeply asleep. Diana and Adam also lay with their eyes closed, a blissful smile curving their lips.
Only Luke was violently trembling, his face twisted and ferocious, clearly in great pain.
"Damn it! What's going on? Who is singing?"
"Why is there singing? Why am I so sleepy?"
Sensing the danger, Luke forcibly interrupted his meditation and looked up at the sky. The next moment, he was stunned.
An incredibly massive tentacle hovered above. At the tip, within a split oral cavity, was a woman whose beauty defied description. Her beauty was suffocating; not even Linda, Danvers, or Diana could compare.
Luke had lived two lives and had never seen such a woman—no, he should call her a Goddess.
After a brief moment of enchantment, anxiety and vigilance immediately set in.
"Who are you? Why are you here... Ahhh! Damn it, stop singing!"
Luke raised his hand, and a Fire Dragon formed, roaring as it flew toward the sky.
The woman extended a hand as clear and lustrous as jade and pressed it onto the Dragon's head. The Fire Dragon instantly shattered. Following this interruption, the singing stopped, and Luke was finally free of the oppressive drowsiness.
The hypnotic effect of the song had been too powerful; even he couldn't completely resist it.
The woman lowered her head, looking puzzled, as if she had seen something strange.
Luke collected himself, his eyes scanning the surroundings. Clark, J'onn, Diana, and Adam were all passed out on the ground, sleeping sounder than logs.
What is this woman's background? She's terrifying! Just opening her mouth put everyone to sleep! And the tentacles... is she also a resurrected Human God, like Nephthys, the Goddess of Fertility, that he encountered before?
No, she's different. This woman seems to possess self-awareness.
Luke calmed his nerves and spoke, a little stiffly,
"Beautiful lady, if you don't mind, please tell me your name."
Receiving no reaction, Luke thought for a moment and decided to use Chinese.
"May I inquire your name, miss? Would you be so kind as to tell me?"
The woman's expression shifted. She leaned down into the canyon, staring intently at Luke.
"Your aura... is so familiar."
Luke's mind raced, and he quickly said, "I am from the Eastern Celestial Court."
Eastern Celestial Court?
The woman repeated the name, sometimes confused, sometimes struggling, as if trying to recall something.
Luke lowered his eyelids, trying to avoid looking at her exposed chest, and focused only on her face.
"Miss, what is your name?"
"Hanyue."
"Miss Hanyue, why are you here?"
"This is my home. You are all invaders. I should eat you. No, I can't eat you. You are a person of the Celestial Court. People of the Celestial Court cannot be eaten."
"Right. We can't eat our own kind."
Luke's mouth twitched violently. What the hell? Wasn't the Tentacle Monster's home in the giant pit? Why is it here on the Plain of White Bones? Could the behemoth in the pit merely be a clone?
The thought sent a shudder through him.
"Well, there's one thing I don't understand. You say the Plain of White Bones is your home, but I don't see it. Where is your home?"
The woman pointed into the distance.
"It's over there."
"Can you take me there?"
"No. They will eat you."
Luke was speechless.
"Are there... many of you?"
"Yes, very many. But I don't like them. They are not people of the Celestial Court."
Luke spread his hands. Though terrified inside, his expression was relaxed. "It seems I have to thank you. If not for you, I might have been eaten by them."
"No. Your soul is very strong. They cannot eat you."
Luke's mind moved quickly, and he pressed the issue. "Are they all like you, with the lower body connected to a tentacle?"
"Yes, everyone is like this."
"Why? You should be able to walk, shouldn't you?"
"No. If we leave the tentacle, we will die."
Luke understood. "Miss Hanyue, thank you for answering my questions. Now it's my turn. Is there anything I can help you with? If I can do it, I won't refuse."
The woman pointed at Clark and the others.
"I want to eat them."
"That won't do. They are my people. Eating them is the same as eating me, eating a person from the Celestial Court. Didn't you just say that people from the Celestial Court cannot be eaten?"
The woman paused.
"You are right. Then I won't eat them."
This woman's thought process seems a bit fractured. Luke gestured, signaling the waking heroes not to move.
"Miss Hanyue, can you tell me who created you?"
"Created?"
"What is created?"
"The main body."
Luke gestured. "Your tentacle is so long. It must be connected to something. What is that thing? Can you tell me?"
"I don't know. It hasn't woken up yet."
Not awake?
Luke was curious. "Has it never woken up, or did it just fall asleep?"
"It has been sleeping the entire time."
"Why don't you wake it up?"
"Not enough energy."
"So you eat things to deliver energy to it?"
"Yes. We are waiting for it to wake up and take us home."
Just then, a roar came from the distance. Hearing the sound, the woman quickly said,
"I must go, person of the Celestial Court. Leave this place and do not return."
With that, the tentacle quickly coiled up and sped away.
The heroes on the ground scrambled to their feet, their faces etched with shock.
"Luke, that woman, she..."
"Hanyue, from the Eastern Celestial Court, one of the seven great divine systems. Like Nephthys, the Goddess of Fertility we saw earlier, she has been resurrected."
J'onn frowned. "How many Gods like her are there?"
"Many, many," Luke replied, shaking his head helplessly. "The Plain of White Bones is their nest. If I'm not mistaken, their main body is deep underground."
The heroes were stunned. If one Hanyue was so difficult, if there were hundreds or thousands of these Gods, what was the point of fighting? They might as well surrender.
Diana asked, confused, "Why didn't she eat us?"
As she spoke, she glanced at Luke with an assessing look.
Luke raised his hand, and golden divine light flickered in his palm. "What I practice is the legacy of the Eastern Celestial Court. To her, I am one of her own kind. Diana, there may be Olympian Gods among those monsters. Try activating your divine heritage when you meet them. It might have a miraculous effect."
J'onn sighed.
"The Celestial Court, Olympus, and Egypt. If they died in the war, why are they alive again? Even resurrected, why have they become this way? Look at them—they are barely Gods anymore."
Luke murmured, "Perhaps, just like us, they just want to go home."
