Chapter 228: Great Battle (2)
Betrayal and Terror
Ghast was no ordinary demon. Having lived for countless ages, he possessed not only immense magical power and a formidable body but also an incredibly resilient soul. Even facing the green flames, he could likely endure it, similar to the Parallax entity.
Defeating him quickly would be difficult, but not impossible.
Ghast, with wings spread, plunged from the sky, aiming directly for the Swamp Monster below. The latter showed a rare look of panic, continuously throwing pleading glances at Luke. Luke took a deep breath and said with utmost seriousness,
"Professor, for the forest, for our fallen comrades, for thousands of lives—fight! I'll cover your back. If you die, I promise I'll buy you the best coffin."
With that, he turned and fled.
Swamp Monster: "..."
That wicked little brat!
Ghast cackled unnervingly. "Die!"
His pitch-black right hand pierced through layers of tree branches, descending with an aura of decay and death.
The Swamp Monster roared. His right arm swelled up, becoming immensely thick. His fist tore through the air, causing shockwaves.
Boom!
The two fists, one large and one small, smashed together. The air was compressed and sucked away, creating visible shockwaves. A circular blast erupted in mid-air, and the ground instantly cratered.
The shockwaves scattered, causing the surrounding trees to shatter instantly.
Ghast sneered, turning his fist into a claw. His fingers spread and grasped the Swamp Monster's fist. The ink-like Death Energy spread down the arm. Wherever it touched, the tree-trunk body decayed and withered, peeling away like an ancient, dried-out tree.
The Death Energy spread too fast, reaching the chest in the blink of an eye. The Swamp Monster's emerald-green body was covered in a deathly gray hue. The light in his eyes began to dim, and he looked severely weakened.
"What good is an Elemental Lord? I can still kill you."
Ghast laughed triumphantly. He exerted force again, shattering the remaining wood. His claw plunged into the Swamp Monster's chest, piercing his body.
"Die, green skin! No one can stop me."
Ghast laughed maniacally. Suddenly, a sense of fatal danger rose in his heart. He quickly tried to retreat, but it was too late. A wooden spear, shimmering with a metallic sheen, burst from the ground. Its tip was spiraled and covered in bizarre green markings.
With a single strike, it pierced his proud body, pinning him in mid-air.
Blood sprayed from his chest like a fountain. Ghast's eyes widened, filled with profound disbelief.
"You... you... cough! cough! cough!"
The Swamp Monster, now a lifeless gray color, turned his head and gave Luke a silent look before tipping backward, collapsing heavily onto the ground.
That single look contained far too many emotions!
To avoid any trouble, Luke chose to ignore him. He surveyed the demon pinned by the wooden spear. Sensing the faint, unmistakable trace of fear emanating from Ghast, he couldn't help but smile.
"Mr. Ghast, as a demon, you feel fear?"
"I like your fear."
Luke shot up, hovering in mid-air. Green flames burned in his pupils. At the sight of them, Ghast suddenly froze. The fear in his heart began to grow, occupying his soul and enslaving his body.
He was unable to move, standing suspended like a puppet.
"The Emotional Spectrum's Yellow Power of Fear!"
"How is that possible? How can you possess this power?"
Ghast screamed in terror, his expression horrified. As a ruler of the galaxy from the ancient era, he had dealt with the Emotional Spectrum and was intimately familiar with the power of the seven emotions.
Luke hissed, "You know too much!"
He spread his five fingers, and green flames surged out, transforming into a flaming giant dragon. The dragon opened its mouth and bit down on Ghast's body. The green flames corroded the flesh and incinerated the soul, a pain that spread from the deepest part of his being.
Luke seized the opportunity. He compressed and condensed the fire in his hands, turning it into a nearly solid flaming spear. He held the spear and plunged it down, piercing Ghast's body from top to bottom. The green flame melted into the blood and flesh, exploding violently.
At this moment, the fear of death was so clear, causing him to tremble. Ghast felt the approach of darkness. This earthling, he really intends to kill me.
A lower life form is going to slaughter me, an ancient demon? How dare he!
Intense unwillingness boiled within him. Ghast grit his teeth and mobilized all his remaining magical power.
Boom!
All his magical energy was released, forming an energy shield that covered a hundred-meter radius. White electricity coursed back and forth, tearing up large and small craters in the ground.
Luke clapped his hands together and flew backward, stopping only when he was clear of the attack range.
Within the brilliant light shield, Ghast spread his wings, hovering in mid-air. His left hand was wreathed in electricity, his right was pitch-black with decay, and a constantly spinning black cloud hovered over his head. An incredibly powerful aura radiated from him, like the descent of the apocalypse.
"Truly worthy of being a ruler of the ancient era," Luke muttered to himself. Green flames spread out from various parts of his armor, dripping to the ground and soaking into the soil. The green flames quickly expanded, turning the surrounding area into a blazing sea of fire.
"Flame Dragon!"
A dragon's roar exploded in mid-air. A massive dragon head shot out of the sea of fire, roaring as it flew toward the sky.
Ghast chanted a spell. The air began to writhe. Countless black particles condensed and spun in mid-air, forming a black tornado.
The fiery dragon and the tornado collided. Black and green energies clashed, emitting numerous ripples of power. The already damaged terrain was further devastated.
The dragon bit and tore at the tornado. Its massive body twisted and wrestled with the vortex. They fought back and forth, neither able to overcome the other.
Luke snorted coldly,
"If one isn't enough, I'll send another."
The sea of fire swelled. A second, even larger Five-Clawed Dragon soared into the air, charging toward the sky with bared teeth and claws. The two giant dragons worked together, shattering the tornado and flying straight toward Ghast.
The green flames burned fiercely. Even before they reached him, Ghast felt the illusion that his soul was being incinerated.
In that moment, even Ghast, who had survived countless ages, drew a sharp breath. What is the origin of this earthling? How can he control such terrifying fire?
Green flame?
I've never heard of green flame anywhere.
Ghast suddenly found himself in a difficult position. The green fire was too overbearing; even his Death Energy couldn't counter it. If this continued, he might actually die.
As his thoughts mounted, his emotions shifted. Luke immediately sensed the faint trace of fear radiating from him.
"Lord Ghast, you wouldn't be thinking of running away, would you?"
Luke's voice was full of triumph. "Go ahead, run as much as you like. The farther, the better. You should leave the galaxy, find some place to hide where no one knows you. I certainly won't laugh at you. And I definitely won't tell the world that the demon Ghast is a spineless coward with no balls."
Ghast's face instantly twisted. The thought of running away vanished without a trace. This was his first battle since breaking the seal. If he ran now, Abnegazar and Rath would certainly mock him relentlessly for it.
