Chapter 47 - chapter 47

Aiden pov

Aiden stirred slowly, the weight of another body anchoring him in place. Warmth pressed against his back, a solid chest rising and falling in steady rhythm. When he blinked his eyes open, the morning sun was barely filtering through the motel's dusty vinyl blinds, though the room was already warm.

He found himself tucked firmly against Kael's chest, the prince's long hair spilling across the pillow like dark silk. One of Kael's arms draped possessively over Aiden's waist, pulling him flushed against his side, while the other arm was tucked beneath Kael's head.

Aiden's breath caught. Despite falling asleep on opposite sides of the narrow bed, they had gravitated back together in the night—as if their bodies automatically sought each other out the moment their minds drifted off into sleep.

Kael looked different in sleep—softened, unguarded. His sharp features were relaxed, lips slightly parted, dark hair falling across his forehead in soft, heavy waves. The strands of long midnight hair fanned out around them both, and Aiden couldn't resist reaching up to brush his fingers through the silken lengths. He traced the line of Kael's jaw, then the curve of his collarbone visible beneath the loose collar of his shirt, listening to the slow, steady breathing. It was unburdened by the ragged, suffocating hitches that had terrified Aiden the night before. Arith's magic—and a few hours of actual, uninterrupted rest—had done wonders. He looked peaceful. Almost serene.

Lost in the sight of him, Aiden didn't notice when Kael's breathing changed. A low chuckle rumbled through the prince's chest, vibrating against Aiden's back.

"Enjoying the view, little one?" Kael's voice was rough with sleep, teasing.

Aiden jerked, heat flooding his face. "I—I wasn't—"

Kael's arm tightened around him, pulling him closer.

"You were staring," he murmured against Aiden's ear. "I could feel your eyes on me."

Aiden's blush deepened, spreading down his neck. "You're beautiful when you sleep," he admitted quietly, the words tumbling out before he could stop them. "And... how's your chest?"

Kael went still for a moment, then shifted. He rolled Aiden onto his back with gentle strength, hovering over him. Those dark, golden eyes searched Aiden's face, something hungry flickering in their depths. "Say that again."

"You're beautiful," Aiden whispered. "And I'm serious—how do you feel?"

"Quiet," Kael murmured, his golden eyes fixing directly on Aiden's. "The curse is dormant for now. I feel... clear."

Relief washed over Aiden so fast his shoulders noticeably dropped. "Good."

Kael's mouth descended. The kiss started slow, exploratory, their lips brushing together like a question. Aiden's hands came up to clutch at Kael's shoulders as the prince's tongue traced the seam of his lips, seeking entrance. When Aiden parted for him, Kael groaned low in his throat and deepened the kiss.

Their tongues slid together, wet and hot. Kael's hand cupped Aiden's jaw, angling his head for better access as he licked into his mouth with deliberate strokes. Aiden whimpered, the sound swallowed by Kael's mouth. The kiss grew messier, more desperate.

Kael sucked on Aiden's bottom lip, then released it to press open-mouthed kisses along his jaw before returning to claim his mouth again.

Aiden's fingers tangled in Kael's long hair, pulling him closer. Their bodies pressed together, heat building between them. Kael's tongue stroked deep, exploring every corner of Aiden's mouth, tasting him thoroughly. Aiden's cock stirred in his pants, hardening against the prince's thigh as the kiss went on and on.

Kael's hand slid down Aiden's side, gripping his hip as he rolled his own hips forward, grinding their bodies together. The friction made Aiden gasp into the kiss, and Kael took the opportunity to suck on his tongue, drawing it into his own mouth. They traded breath, saliva slicking their lips as they devoured each other.

Aiden's head spun. Kael tasted like mint and something darker, something addictive. His cock throbbed, fully hard now, pressing insistently against Kael's body. The prince's own arousal was obvious, hard and hot against Aiden's hip as they moved together.

Kael's teeth grazed Aiden's lower lip, sucking it between his own before releasing it with a wet sound. He kissed Aiden again, slower this time, deeper, his tongue sliding against Aiden's in a rhythm that made Aiden's toes curl. Aiden moaned, the sound desperate and needy, his hands fisting in Kael's hair.

The door creaked open.

"Well, well," Arith's voice cut through the haze. "Am I interrupting something?"

Kael pulled back slowly, his lips swollen and glistening. Aiden lay beneath him, panting, his cock straining against his pants, face flushed and eyes glazed. A thin string of saliva connected their mouths before it broke.

Arith leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, a smirk playing at her lips. "Don't stop on my account. I was rather enjoying the show."

Kael let out a soft chuckle, his breath warm against Aiden's skin as he finally sat up, offering a parting smirk to Arith. "Such a killjoy"

Kael pov

We had agreed the night before that we wouldn't rush out at dawn. We were entering the final leg of our journey—heading straight toward the place where my life and his past were going to collide. We needed a few hours to just exist before everything turned chaotic again.

"I am going down to check the dining area," Kael announced, smoothing down his dark jacket, looking entirely too regal for a two-star roadside motel. "Arith mentioned something about coffee."

"Go ahead," Aiden yawned, stretching his arms over his head as he tried to compose himself. "Give me ten minutes to wake up properly."

The motel's small breakfast lounge smelled faintly of burnt toast, cheap coffee, and old wood.

Arith was already seated at a corner table near the window, casually sipping from a mug while flipping through a tourist map she'd snagged from the lobby rack.

"You done sucking face?" she noted, looking up over the paper.

"Yes, someone just had to interrupt," Kael replied, pouring himself a cup of the dark, questionable liquid from a glass pot.

"Where is the human?"

" cooling off." Kael answered with pride .

He took a seat across from her, taking a small sip. It tasted terrible, but the heat was welcome.

Before he could set the cup down, the air in the room shifted. A heavy, primal aura brushed against his senses—warm, wild, and distinctly non-human.

Kael turned his head slightly toward the counter.

Standing there, pouring himself a cup of black coffee, was a guy who looked to be around Aiden's age. He wore a fitted leather jacket over a plain t-shirt, his dark hair carelessly styled. But it wasn't his clothes that caught Kael's attention. It was the way he carried himself—broad shoulders, absolute confidence, and a dominant, territorial presence radiating off him in waves.

A werewolf. And an Alpha, by the sheer weight of his aura.

He turned, his amber-tinted eyes sweeping the room before locking directly onto Kael's. He didn't look away or lower his gaze. Instead, he smirked, taking a slow, deliberate step toward their table.

"Not often I smell a dragon's pet in a place like this," he said, his voice a low, raspy rumble as he stopped beside their table. "Or whatever heavy supernatural magic you're flexing under that glamour."

Kael arched an eyebrow, leaning back against his chair with cool, practiced condescension. "And I certainly didn't expect the local wildlife to be wandering through a motel lounge without a leash."

Arith buried her face behind her map, letting out a quiet, amused snort.

The werewolf's eyes narrowed slightly, his smirk turning sharp. "Careful, high-and-mighty. Some beasts don't take kindly to pretty boys looking down their noses at them."

"Then those beasts should learn their place," Kael replied smoothly, crossing his legs. "It saves them the embarrassment of being put there."

The air between them crackled with instant friction. He was an Alpha used to dominance; Kael was used to absolute authority. Neither of them was built to step back.

"Trevor," he said, though there was no warmth in the introduction. Just a challenge.

"Uninterested," Kael returned flatly.

Before Trevor could snap back, the lobby door clicked open, and Aiden stepped into the lounge.

He had combed his hair and was wearing a soft jumper, looking warm, completely rested, and utterly oblivious to the heavy magical tension suffocating the room. His eyes swept the lounge until they found Kael, a bright, gentle smile immediately lighting up his face.

"Hey," Aiden said, walking over. "Did you save me any—"

He stopped short, realizing Trevor was standing right beside their table.

Trevor's entire demeanor shifted in a fraction of a second. The sharp, aggressive edge in his posture melted away, replaced by a smooth, lingering gaze that swept over Aiden from head to toe.

A slow, appreciative grin spread across the werewolf's face.

"Well, well," Trevor purred, his voice dropping an octave as he completely turned his back on Kael to face Aiden. "Now this is a much better view."

Aiden blinked, taken aback by the sudden, intense focus. "Uh. Hi?"

"I'm Trevor," the Alpha said, stepping half an inch closer than necessary and extending a hand. His eyes held a warm, predatory flicker. "And who might you be, handsome?"

"Aiden," he answered, politely reaching out to shake Trevor's hand.

Trevor didn't just shake it. His fingers wrapped firmly around Aiden's, holding on for a second—then two—then three—far longer than a simple greeting required, his thumb lightly brushing over the back of Aiden's knuckles.

A sharp, violent pulse exploded in Kael's chest.

A vein practically throbbed against his temple as he watched those clawed fingers linger against Aiden's skin. The sheer audacity of it made his blood boil so hot he thought his veins would burst.

Kael slammed his coffee mug down onto the wooden table with enough force that the ceramic cracked, dark liquid sloshing wildly over the rim.

Arith peeked over her map, her eyes glittering with absolute, unholy delight as she watched Kael's jaw clench so hard it clicked.

"Release him," Kael hissed, his voice dropping to an icy, dangerous register that rattled the empty sugar jars on the table.

Trevor finally let go, but he didn't look threatened at all. In fact, the moment he noticed the lethal, possessive fury flashing in Kael's eyes, his grin widened into something downright wicked.

The werewolf had realized exactly which nerve he'd just stepped on—and he clearly intended to stomp on it.

"Aiden," Trevor repeated the name slowly, looking right back at him. "A pretty name for a remarkably handsome guy. What's a human like you doing with a cold block of ice?" He gestured vaguely toward Kael without even glancing back.

"None of your damn business, mutt." Kael growled, standing up so fast his chair scraped violently against the floorboards.

Trevor just chuckled, taking a slow, deliberate half-step closer to Aiden. "Is it not? You know, Aiden... if you ever feel uncomfortable with the arrogant attitude, I could show you what a true gentleman is like. I could even show you around properly. No brooders allowed."

Kael's vision literally blurred with rage. Golden mana flared violently beneath the skin of his hands, bright, crackling embers gathering around his knuckles like a ready flame. Sparks hissed in the air, singeing the edge of the tablecloth.

Trevor's eyes flicked to Kael's hands, a sharp smirk playing on his lips as he clearly enjoyed getting such a massive rise out of him.

"Kael," Aiden's voice cut through the haze, soft and immediate.

Before Kael could hurl a blast of raw magic through the werewolf's chest, Aiden stepped right between them. His eyes locked entirely onto Kael's, wide with concern as he saw the golden light dancing over his skin.

Aiden reached out, placing both of his hands gently over Kael's crackling knuckles.

"Kael, hey," Aiden murmured softly, his thumbs soothingly stroking over his backhand, physically burying the sparks beneath his touch. "Look at me. Breathe. It's fine."

The sensation of Aiden's warm, bare skin against his instantly snapped the leash on Kael's temper. The crackling mana died down, dissolving into harmless golden dust. But his chest was still heaving, his eyes locking onto Trevor over Aiden's shoulder with pure murder.

"You're okay," Aiden reassured him softly, pressing his palm flat against Kael's chest, right over his wildly thumping heart. "I'm right here. Nobody's going anywhere."

Trevor let out an exaggerated, playful sigh, raising his hands in a mocking gesture of surrender, though his amber eyes were practically dancing with amusement. "Alright, alright. Message received, Big Guy."

He winked past Aiden's shoulder at kael.

"See you around, Aiden," Trevor said smoothly, backing away toward the exit with his hands stuffed in his leather jacket pockets. "Enjoy the coffee."

As the lobby door finally clicked shut behind him, the suffocating tension in the room slowly dissipated, leaving only the sound of Arith's quiet, muffled laughter.

"Well," Arith said, folding her map with a satisfied snap. "That was certainly more entertaining than breakfast. I didn't know you could be that jealous, Kael."

"Aiden is mine," Kael snapped instantly, though his voice was entirely too tight to be believable. "That stray dog was testing my patience."

"He can't take me away from you even if he tried, Kael," Aiden pointed out quietly, though he didn't pull his hand away from Kael's chest. His thumb was still gently stroking Kael's shirt, calming the residual heat under his skin. "Your hands were literally on fire, that was hot." Aiden whispered to him, grinning.

"Was it now?," Kael muttered with a smirk before his expression changed again, his fingers wrapping around Aiden's wrist, pulling his hand slightly tighter against his heart. "He touched you , I don't like that."

Aiden looked up at him, his eyes softening completely. The playful humor faded into something remarkably gentle, his gaze anchoring him.

"I don't care about him, Kael," Aiden whispered softly, stepping a half-inch closer so his shoulder brushed Kael's. "I only care about the dramatic, broody guy whose heart is beating out of his chest right now."

Kael stared down at him, his possessive irritation slowly unraveling under Aiden's steady gaze. A long, reluctant exhale escaped his lips.

"He was still too close," Kael grumbled softly, resting his forehead against Aiden's shoulder for just a second to hide the faint blush dusting his cheeks.

Aiden let out a soft chuckle, his fingers lacing through Kael's. "I know. But you've got me. So let the werewolf flirt all he wants—it won't change anything."

From the table, Arith groaned loudly into her empty mug. "Please, don't tell me you're about to suck face again, let me eat in peace."

They both laughed as they drew away from each other and sat side by side to eat their breakfast.
