Chapter 85: Teaching Bratty Kids a Lesson
Truth be told, Tsezguerra also wanted to see Mord's capabilities.
Some things needed to be witnessed firsthand to be truly convincing.
"Mord, both Killua and I have learned Nen abilities now. We're not the same as during the Hunter Exam. This time, I'm going all out!" Gon looked at Mord, his smile fading as his expression turned serious.
Clearly, Mord's comment about defeating them in three moves had angered him.
Killua was even more furious, his nose practically twisted in anger. As someone with strong self-esteem, he had never been looked down upon like this before.
Without any further words, he immediately used the Zoldyck family's secret technique—Rhythm Echo.
But before Mord's En, Killua was no different from a naked dancing girl.
Here it comes!
A hand chop enhanced with Ren cut through the air with a sharp gust, slashing diagonally toward the back of Mord's neck.
"Decent power."
Tsezguerra, observing from a distance, made his assessment. Combined with the earlier Rhythm Echo, Killua's combat abilities had actually given him quite a pleasant surprise.
What he wanted to know now was how Mord planned to counter this attack.
If this strike connected, an ordinary person would likely die instantly.
Even Nen users would suffer serious injuries if they failed to defend with Aura in time.
Yet Mord, as if he had eyes in the back of his head, accurately identified Killua's true position. He spun around abruptly, his right hand shooting out to directly grab Killua's head before violently hurling him into the distance.
Mord's movement speed was simply too fast—Killua had no time to react.
Boom!
By the time he realized what was happening, his body had already smashed hard into the distant wall. The wall collapsed, countless rubble falling to bury him.
"So fast!"
Tsezguerra exclaimed in amazement.
Meanwhile, seeing Killua get hurt, Gon gathered all the Aura from his entire body into his right fist and launched it toward Mord.
The energy was too dispersed.
Weak and powerless.
Mord gently shook his head. At this point, Gon hadn't even mastered Ken, only knowing the most basic Ten.
Facing the unruly kid, he showed no mercy.
With his left hand gripping the boy's fist and his right hand pressing down on his head, he gave a single forceful push.
Gon suddenly felt top-heavy, flipped upside down, and landed face-first, crashing hard onto the ground.
The impact was severe, and a pained cry escaped him. But being both resilient and stubborn, he was about to spring back up.
Just then, a hand drifted down lightly, pressing firmly on his head. No matter how much Gon struggled, he couldn't break free.
Blood was already seeping from his forehead. If he kept injuring himself like this, things could turn dangerous.
"Gon, we lost."
Killua's voice from afar finally calmed Gon down. His tense body went limp all at once.
At times like these, only Killua's words could get through to him.
Killua climbed out of the rubble, looking just as disheveled. He glanced at Mord and said, "Next time we meet, I won't lose again."
Mord chuckled and released his right hand.
"Your brother might stand a chance. You're still a decade too early."
"Let's go." Killua pulled Gon along and turned to leave.
"Wait a moment." Tsezguerra called out to stop them.
Hearing the voice behind them, Gon and Killua halted and turned back, looking puzzled at Tsezguerra.
"Mr. Battera will be purchasing all seven copies of the Greed Island game at this auction. After that, we'll openly recruit talented players to join," Tsezguerra explained.
"Are you asking us to take the screening test to qualify?" Killua asked.
Tsezguerra nodded. "Exactly."
"The screening is set for September 10th, starting right after the auction ends. The gathering place is here, the Southernpiece Auction Hall."
"We've also posted the notice online. Many Hunters have already signed up, so the competition will be fierce."
Mord smiled at Killua and Gon, waving as he said, "You still have four days. Train hard in Nen, and you might still have a chance."
"Hmph, as if we needed you to tell us that."
"Killua, let's go!"
With that, the two brats stomped off angrily.
"Damn it! So frustrating!"
"I'm definitely passing this screening and showing them!"
...
Their voices could still be heard fading into the distance.
"Heh heh, such interesting kids." Tsezguerra chuckled, then turned to Mord. "Mr. Mord, as expected of a One-Star Hunter. Your strength is truly awe-inspiring. With you on board, I believe we'll conquer the Greed Island Game in no time."
"You flatter me, Mr. Tsezguerra. You're a senior in the Hunter community, while I'm just a newly promoted One-Star Hunter. There's still much I need to learn from you," Mord replied with a smile.
Professional compliments—who couldn't do that?
"What do you think of those two kids, Mr. Mord?" Tsezguerra asked, gazing at the retreating figures of Gon and Killua.
"As you just witnessed, their current abilities are far from sufficient," Mord withdrew his gaze, a meaningful smile appearing on his face. "But four days from now, who knows? Their growth potential and capabilities far exceed your imagination."
"Is that so? Since even you say so, I truly hope the review day comes quickly," Tsezguerra spoke up.
"How about joining us as a reviewer, Mr. Mord?"
Mord had originally intended to enter the Greed Island Game directly, having little interest in reviews.
At the review site, only two people were worth his attention: one was the muscular loli Biscuit Krueger, and the other was the Nen exorcist.
There was no telling when he might encounter troublesome Nen abilities in the future—knowing a Nen exorcist could only be beneficial.
"I can be a reviewer, but four days is too long. I'd like to enter the game first to familiarize myself with it," Mord stated.
Tsezguerra replied, "That might be difficult. Once you enter the game, it's hard to come out immediately, and it's not easy to explain why in a short time."
"Don't worry, I'll return by the agreed time," Mord said, taking out the game memory card and ring from his pocket.
"A game memory card? Have you been to Greed Island before?" Tsezguerra asked in surprise.
Mord shook his head.
"Not at all, I obtained it by chance."
"Very well, since that's the case, we'll proceed as you suggested." Tsezguerra nodded. "However, all of Battera's game consoles are at the base, so you'll have to use the one we acquired at today's auction for now."
"Just insert the memory card, put on the ring, channel your Nen toward the game console, and you'll enter the game. The system will provide instructions once you're inside."
Tsezguerra handed Mord the console they had won at the auction that day.
Following Tsezguerra's instructions, Mord put on the ring and directed his Nen at the game console. In the next moment, his figure vanished from the spot.
After a short while, the words "Now Playing" appeared on the game console.
