Although his leave to visit home was coming to an end, Vice Admiral Garp was still in a fairly good mood.
His "grandson" Ace was already two years old. The little guy was full of energy, turning the entire mountain bandit den upside down. It seemed he had inherited his father's exceptional natural talents.
He will surely become an excellent Marine soldier in the future! (Hehe)
Harboring this somewhat naive thought, Vice Admiral Garp led a group of subordinates as they prepared to return to Marine Headquarters. The reason he had stopped at Loguetown this time was two-fold: first, to resupply before entering the Grand Line, and second, to pay respects to an "old friend" who had passed away many years ago.
Then, Garp learned from the Marines stationed in Loguetown that the East Blue's super rookie—the 27 million berry "Hogg the Gnoll"—had arrived here.
Even though he was on leave, and even though he was usually quite unreliable, Vice Admiral Garp shouldered the responsibilities expected of a Marine this time.
(How could I be like that Alan, doing absolutely nothing as soon as I go on break!) the Marine Hero said to himself.
And so, Vice Admiral Garp led a large squad of Marines aggressively toward the port mentioned in the intelligence report, where he encountered his not-yet-born biological grandson.
"Grandpa!? Who are you calling?" Garp looked strangely at this Straw Hat kid who looked completely panic-stricken, then turned his head to ask his subordinates:
"Hey, which one of you is his grandfather?"
"Vice Admiral Garp, I think he was calling you just now," a Marine wearing sunglasses said, sounding quite pained.
"Me????" A look of total bewilderment appeared on Garp's face: "When did Dragon have a kid??"
The sunglasses-wearing Marine had black lines running down his face. "No, no, no, Vice Admiral Garp, he might have just mistaken you for someone else."
"Mistook me for someone else??"
The imposing Marine Hero touched his stubble-covered chin, then cast a scrutinizing gaze toward Luffy. The latter was scared stiff, standing frozen in place with cold sweat pouring down his forehead.
Garp: (-_-)
Luffy: (⊙_⊙)
The old man and the young boy stared silently at each other. The atmosphere was incredibly weird, as if the air around them was gradually solidifying.
(Vice Admiral Garp? Garp... Could it be that Marine Hero?!) The black-haired young boy narrowed his eyes.
(Monkey D. Garp. Monkey? ...D? ...Speaking of which, Luffy said before that his full name is...)
Boom!! Sherlock felt like he had been struck by lightning, and the expression on his face instantly became very peculiar.
(If everything this Straw Hat idiot said is true, then... hehe, this is really too interesting!)
At this moment, young Sherlock had already vaguely guessed what had happened to Luffy.
The Marines subconsciously gulped. They looked at Garp, then turned to look at the moronic captain who was scared witless, all wearing looks of pure gossip on their faces.
(Looking closely, these two don't really look alike...)
However, just then.
Snore~~~~~ Snore~~~~~~ Two extremely similar snoring sounds rang out.
The old man and the young boy, who had just been staring at each other, had suddenly fallen asleep! They were even blowing snot bubbles of considerable size, shocking the surrounding onlookers so much they almost coughed up blood.
(Okay, it would be weirder if these two equally unreliable people weren't related!) the Marines retorted in their hearts, faces dark with exasperation.
Lisanna poked her brother, looking very excited: "Hey, Sherlock, look quickly! These two guys actually fell asleep standing up! Hahaha, this is too interesting!"
"Yeah, their spacey behavior is exactly the same." Sherlock's face returned to its usual calm and composed demeanor.
Pop! The sound of a snot bubble bursting startled Vice Admiral Garp awake. He blinked somewhat blankly, looked at Luffy who was still in dreamland, and came back to his senses.
"Hey! You kid in the straw hat!" Vice Admiral Garp shouted, waking the moronic captain, and lectured him righteously:
"Did your elders never tell you that dozing off in front of others is very rude?!"
(You're hardly one to talk!) Everyone else felt powerless to retort.
Vice Admiral Garp picked his nose, looked at the straw hat on Luffy's head, and a glint flashed through his eyes.
"Kid, where did you get your straw hat?" Garp asked suspiciously. He remembered that Roger used to have an extremely similar straw hat.
Luffy hurriedly reached out to cover his precious straw hat and answered subconsciously: "Shanks gave this to me!"
"Shanks?!" Garp paused. Although Red-Haired hadn't yet become the world-renowned Emperor he would be later, as a former crew member of the Roger Pirates, Garp was quite familiar with that young man with red hair.
Vice Admiral Garp's face instantly dropped. "You kid, just who are you!?"
"Eh? Do you not recognize me?" Luffy glanced strangely at his grandfather, who was eighteen years younger than usual. "I'm your grandson, Luffy."
"Nonsense! How could I have a grandson as old as you!" Garp crossed his arms and grinned. "And even if I had a grandson, I would raise him to be an excellent Marine."
"I don't want to be a Marine!" Luffy suddenly got inexplicably agitated. He took a breath and then shouted loudly: "I'm the man who will become the Pirate King!"
Silence... Everyone was stunned into silence by the Straw Hat kid's shout.
"This idiot..." Sherlock held his forehead helplessly.
Lisanna excitedly waved her small, pink fist, her fair face flushing red with excitement: "Well said! Big Eater!! Be a Marine for what! Being a pirate is... mph..."
The silver-haired little loli intended to say more, but her mouth was hurriedly covered by her brother.
"Don't cause trouble, Lisanna," Sherlock warned in a low voice.
(Just what is this guy in the straw hat saying? Does he not know that the person in front of him is the legendary Marine Hero, Garp?!) The Marines didn't know what to say anymore.
"Pirate King? Hehe, ambitious goal. That sentence from Roger really harmed people."
Vice Admiral Garp's face instantly turned dark, and he gritted his teeth: "It looks like I need to let you know the terror of the Marines."
(Not good!)
Looking at Garp's terrifying expression, alarm bells rang loudly in Luffy's heart. Whenever he saw his grandfather make this face when he was little, there were absolutely never any good consequences!
Although he was an idiot, Luffy made a very wise move at this moment:
Run!!
With two cute cries of surprise, the moronic captain reached out and hoisted Sherlock and Lisanna onto his shoulders. Then, at an exaggerated speed, he sprinted into the distance, kicking up billowing clouds of dust.
Even when running away, they had to run together—Luffy was very loyal.
"Runs pretty fast." Vice Admiral Garp clicked his tongue, then ordered his subordinates: "You guys, go catch him!"
For a pirate of Luffy's level, Garp had no desire to make a move personally.
"Yes! Sir!" The Marines executed a proper salute, then chased in the direction Luffy had fled.
Soon, only Vice Admiral Garp was left alone at the messy port.
"Luffy, Luffy..."
Repeatedly chewing over the name, Garp grinned. "This name isn't bad. How about I name my grandson this in the future? Naming is the most annoying thing. Hmm... Monkey D. Luffy. Nice, nice, hahaha..."
The Marine Hero laughed heartily.
At the Goldglint Trading Company, inside Sherlock's home.
"Come, taste my secret recipe lemon pie. Eh, where did everyone go?"
Sherlock's mother placed the plate of lemon pie on the dining table, looking left and right in confusion. "Did Lisanna and the others go out to play again? Honestly, they didn't even say hello to me."
However, just then, a commotion suddenly came from outside the house.
Sherlock's mother looked out the window curiously and was instantly startled by the scene outside.
"Strange, why is it suddenly foggy?"
Unnoticed until now, the streets outside had abruptly filled with a thick fog. Unlike the usual white mist, this thick fog had seven colors, just like a rainbow. It was very beautiful.
"But this rainbow mist is quite pretty. I'm sure Lisanna would like it very much if she saw it, hehe."
Thinking of her cute daughter, Sherlock's mother instantly revealed a smile full of warmth.
