Chapter 52 - Chapter 52

Chapter 52: Appreciate Your Onee-san's Thoughtfulness!

"How come I didn't know about this? Did you use your ability to investigate secretly again?"

"I couldn't be bothered. Takashiro told me about it. Your editor got promoted, and there's a new hire—double celebration."

After shooting Satoru a slightly annoyed glance, Nia quietly explained.

Though it sounded like a complaint, she had indeed stopped struggling because of Kurumi's presence nearby, allowing herself to be held by Satoru just like that...

Although she wasn't resisting anymore, she actually felt a little happy inside.

Hmph~

This guy finally knows what's good for him~

Knowing she was angry, he actually knew to comfort her at a time like this~

"Is that so? Seems like he's doing quite well now. That's a good thing, I suppose."

Satoru didn't overthink it, merely feeling somewhat sentimental.

That editor uncle originally had mediocre performance—his strengths were being easy to talk to and extremely hardworking, but he wasn't good at socializing.

However, after Satoru started writing novels, his performance improved significantly. Later, his luck turned around too, and now he's even been promoted to chief editor.

Well, their publishing house wasn't very big to begin with. The moment Satoru joined, he instantly became the most popular author in the entire company, even single-handedly boosting the publisher's reputation and attracting many other authors.

Now that the business is growing bigger, it's only natural that uncle got promoted.

But having someone new is really quite uncomfortable. Hopefully this new editor won't talk too much nonsense and will be as diligent and uncomplaining as before.

"Of course, who told you to only communicate with him? To make sure you work hard on updates, we had no choice but to promote him. But I'm curious—why suddenly assign a newcomer as your editor? Does she have some connections?"

"Who knows? Use your ability to check it out."

"Every use of my ability is very meaningful. I won't use it for something like peeking into others' privacy."

"..." x2

And you have the nerve to say that, when you normally love peeking first no matter what you're doing.

Hearing Nia speak with such righteous dignity, both Satoru and Kurumi couldn't help but internally complain.

Her ability was the most versatile, used dozens of times every day.

While he and Mukuro used theirs sparingly, just to familiarize themselves, and Kurumi used hers to communicate with Sawa.

Only Nia remained consistently like this. Satoru had complained about it before, but she never listened.

"So you're not planning to go? Fine then. Kurumi, change your clothes, let's go."

Satoru shook his head, then placed Nia directly on the nearby sofa before standing up. Picking up the manuscripts nearby, he spoke to Kurumi.

Both his novel manuscripts and Nia's illustrations were for the same publishing house.

With the end of the month approaching, it was about time to submit the manuscripts for printing and binding.

Since Nia didn't want to go, so be it. He had originally thought about taking her out shopping after they finished.

"Sorry, Mr. Satoru, I'm afraid that won't be possible~"

Kurumi smiled charmingly but gave a negative response, leaving Satoru somewhat confused.

"Huh? Didn't you say before that you were quite interested in the publishing house and wanted to come see it?"

It wasn't that he wanted to go on a date alone with Kurumi—it's just that this matter was something Kurumi had been looking forward to all along.

Although all three of them were still students, Satoru and Nia both had proper jobs—one as a novelist and the other as a manga artist.

As for Kurumi herself, working as a maid seemed a bit dull, and she had been considering whether she should look for a job as well, so she could earn a proper living through her own abilities. In fact, she had some confidence in her writing skills and had even been helping Satoru supplement the content of Dead or Bullet.

So, a few days ago, Satoru had also thought about whether he should just let her take over writing Dead or Bullet. After all, those were events she had personally experienced, and she was the one who knew them best.

Kurumi had also considered it, thinking that she might as well check out the situation when she went to the publishing house. If possible, she wanted to give writing a try.

But now, it turned out she wasn't going after all?

"Well, that's because…"

"Because we've already made plans with Ayano-chan to enjoy a lovely afternoon tea at the cat café~"

"…Ayano suggested it?"

Hearing this, Satoru's expression turned slightly peculiar.

The name of the shop alone made it clear it was Ayano's preference, but she was usually too shy to speak up. Why would she suggest it this time?

"Of course not. It was my idea. Muku-chan is coming too, and it took quite a bit of effort to coax Ayano-chan into joining us~"

"Everyone's going? Then I'll…"

"You idiot, if you're there, what's the point?"

"Huh?"

At this, Satoru couldn't help but stare blankly at Nia.

But Nia just shot him an exasperated glance and, along with Kurumi, who also looked somewhat resigned, stood up and began preparing to leave, leaving Satoru even more confused.

It was rare for everyone to be together—wouldn't it be a shame if he didn't go?

What he failed to realize was that sometimes, not being present was for the best.

…Sigh, it took a lot of effort to "manage" these "sisters."

If he showed up, wouldn't it just be the same as usual?!

Honestly, he should try to understand the thoughtfulness of his onee-san!
