Chapter 39 - Ch.39 - Death of Satoru Gojo

"Hey, I have a strange feeling we should make a run for it now. This guy is bad news," Toji said, taking a step back.

"Yeah, tell me about it." Gojo rolled his eyes as Sukuna raised a hand in their direction.

"You two, dodge." Sukuna smiled lightly as the two of them leapt up at full speed.

SHING!

Everything in front of Sukuna in a horizontal line was severed, impossibly smooth, as if the space between both halves were simply pushed gently away from the center.

It was like the Dismantle severed the horizon as a whole.

"What the hell is up with you sorcerers?!" Toji asked, landing as Gojo stood on the air, eyes narrowed on Sukuna.

Toji looked over the horizon as hundreds of buildings fell into rubble, and even he grimaced.

Gojo immediately warped as Sukuna once again cut through the space he was standing in. Gojo threw a massive Lapse Blue that crushed everything in that direction.

Seeing this, Sukuna cracked a smile as the Blue was easily dismantled like everything else.

"Your old tricks won't do you any favors here. And in case you're thinking of using your domain, my domain should carry the properties of my improved Dismantle as well, so I wouldn't recommend it."

Sukuna stood with two hands on his hips as the other two were crossed, a mocking smile on his face.

Seeing someone as cocky as Gojo hopping around like a helpless animal was amusing, for certain.

'Alright, things may have gotten out of hand, but I'm sure I can turn some things around...' Gojo looked around, and a smirk rose to his face.

Expanding the range of his cursed energy, Gojo decided right then and there. Even if he drained himself dry, he couldn't let Sukuna leave Shibuya. Otherwise, he'd grow even more unbeatable than he was now.

"Let's do this!"

Gojo said to himself as dozens of Lapse Blues formed around him in a spiral before Red formed at their centers, igniting into a brilliant constellation of Purple as he flew forward, his cursed energy blazing around him like a wildfire.

"Going all out, eh? No longer care about property damage?" Sukuna grinned, running to meet Gojo head-on.

"I'll just say you did all this yourself."

"Like they'll believe that."

They clashed, the shockwave tearing through the air as Gojo used the force of the impact to create distance, swinging his arm as one of the Purples slammed into Sukuna.

SHHHHHH!

Thick steam rolled off Sukuna as his body reformed, his expression as smug as ever as he moved once again.

Gojo raised his guard as Sukuna's fist slammed into his chest, sending him crashing through a pile of rubble.

Gojo was forced to use RCT to fix his shattered ribs as he threw two more Purples at Sukuna's blind spots.

"Nice try." Sukuna unleashed two Dismantles, cutting apart the purple spheres as they exploded with much less power than intended.

Whoosh!

Sukuna's eyes shifted behind him, and he raised a hand to catch the large chunk of building thrown at him.

"Really? I would have thought you too afraid to face me, Sorcerer Killer." Sukuna tossed aside the heavy concrete and vanished.

Sensing the vibration through the air, Toji let himself fall backward off the building just as Sukuna materialized in front of him, almost swiping off his head.

"And miss out on all the fun? I already died once, so what's to fear, anyway?" Toji smiled with exhilaration as Sukuna stood straight, nodding in understanding. After all, who doesn't love a good fight?

Vrrrnnn!

Sukuna turned, coating his arms in Domain Amplification as a Hollow Purple slammed into his palms.

The atom-shredding power of Purple was violently negated by the Domain Amplification, and Sukuna scoffed as it too was dismantled.

"You can't possibly think something like this would beat me, right?" Sukuna said as five more Purples slammed into him, exploding in a massive pillar of purple energy that atomized everything in a sixty-meter diameter.

Sukuna stood a bit hunched, his body burned down to the bone in some places as three of his eyes had melted. However, his remaining eyes moved, locking onto Gojo as his flesh snapped back into perfect condition before he vanished again.

"What a nuisance..." Sukuna was already in front of Gojo, holding him by the ankle as he whipped the strongest sorcerer around hard enough to turn an ordinary person's brain to soup, before tossing him into the ground with a violent bang.

Just as Gojo's body bounced off the dirt, Sukuna slammed both feet into his chest, driving him deep into the earth and shattering everything in the way until a massive crater was left behind.

"Augh!" Gojo vomited blood and small chunks of internal tissue as Sukuna grabbed him by the hair and flung him across the city like trash.

Sukuna wouldn't restrict his physical strength anymore. He was already tired of this fight.

Suddenly, Sukuna's head tilted to the side as a sharpened bar of metal flew through the air, almost passing straight through his forehead.

Toji, who had thrown the metal rod, had already begun retreating into the shadows of the rubble for another ambush. But in the time it took to take his first step, Sukuna was already in his path inches away, a large palm landing gently on his face.

"Cleave."

SHING!

Toji burst into a bloody mist as Sukuna walked a few steps past him before vanishing in the direction of Gojo.

"You weren't amusing at all..."

Gojo found himself in agony, rolling across the ruined city. He had taken so much damage that he lost control of his ambient Hollow Purples, coughing up more blood as he struggled to stand.

"D-Damn. No way I'm this pathetic... right?"

Whoosh.

Sukuna appeared with a faint displacement of air as Gojo flooded his body with RCT to heal his injuries. But the effects of the Black Flash were dulling, and his output had once again begun a rapid decline.

"Dis..." Sukuna began as Gojo dived to the side.

"...mantle."

With a burst of air pressure, everything one hundred meters in front of Sukuna in a perfect vertical line was cut, the width of the slash more than enough to have engulfed Gojo entirely had it hit.

"Ahhh!"

Gojo looked down. One of his legs was gone, his low output barely dulling the pain as he struggled to halt the bleeding.

His leg slowly regrew at a noticeably slower pace.

For the first time in his life, he was running out of cursed energy to burn in Reverse Cursed Technique.

Before the leg could fully heal, Sukuna snatched him by the neck, tossing him up before slamming a bone-shattering kick into his ribs. Gojo vomited blood and bile as he slid across the ground.

Sukuna walked toward him, grabbing him by the hair as Gojo felt too weak to heal anymore without another Black Flash.

'This isn't good...' Gojo thought, gritting his teeth and trying to force the Reverse Cursed Technique to flow within. But he got nothing but a pounding headache from it as blood leaked from his mouth.

He felt his eyes growing heavy as he tried pushing himself to keep fighting.

"You were an entertaining one, Satoru Gojo. You would have been the strongest for decades if only I wasn't around." Sukuna smiled, looking at the early sunrise on the horizon as he let go of Satoru's hair, letting him collapse weakly to the ground.

Throughout the whole fight, Sukuna had used Search to target nothing but critical weaknesses along Gojo's body. Each hit caused more damage than it should have, almost always forcing healing. Meanwhile, Sukuna himself wasn't even winded, not that he could be in his current state.

"Haha, I aim to please..." Gojo wheezed out, standing and raising his guard as Sukuna chuckled.

"I suppose I am pleased with this fight. I was thoroughly entertained for a whole evening..." Sukuna turned to look directly at Gojo.

"Stand proud. You are strong."

Instantly, countless Spatial Dismantles shredded Gojo into nothing, scattering his blood to the wind. Sukuna leapt to the top of the tallest remaining ruins and sat down, enjoying the breeze as he waited for things to wrap up here.

"I'm a bit hungry. Perhaps I should have Uraume prepare me something..." Sukuna rubbed his chin in thought.
