Chapter 153 - Chapter 152: A New Crisis

Chapter 152: A New Crisis

Calixis Sector

On the industrial planet of Verendax, the air was thick with gunpowder and rust.

Countless Imperial Army soldiers, arranged in dense formations, formed a torrent of steel and flesh, charging toward the Knight Titan before them.

"For the Emperor! Advance!" An officer shouted, raising his chainsword and pointing at the Knight Titan.

"For the Emperor!"

The Imperial soldiers fired desperately. Las-beams, exhaust trails from missile launchers, and autocannon rounds wove a dense net of death, pouring onto the Knight Titan.

But these weapons were like raindrops against the steel behemoth's armor, leaving only insignificant scorch marks.

The Titan's weapons answered. A dazzling ray of flame tore through the air, heading straight for the Imperial Guard's front line. The scorching shockwave sent countless soldiers flying, reducing them and their cover to charred ash.

Then the Knight Titan lifted its massive foot and brought it down with merciless force. An entire row of Imperial soldiers, along with their trenches, weapons, and lives, was crushed into bloody pulp.

"Ah ah ah ah!"

Screams and roars echoed across the battlefield. Surviving Imperial soldiers were splattered with the blood and viscera of their comrades. Some collapsed. Others tried to keep firing, but their weapons trembled in their hands.

The Imperial soldiers were falling into despair, crying out in their hearts.

"Great Emperor, come and save your innocent people!"

"Emperor, please use your mighty power to save us!"

They watched helplessly as the scene unfolded like the end of the world.

Suddenly, a huge golden light blazed in the dim sky.

Sanguinius, like a golden thunderbolt, tore through the despair. He leaped from a Thunderhawk gunship, wings spread wide, like a descending god. His armor reflected the fierce glow of explosions.

"Warriors of the Imperium, do not panic! I, Sanguinius, have arrived!"

"Blood Angels, attack and eradicate the rebellion!"

Sanguinius let out a deafening roar. Everyone's attention focused on him.

Then he charged directly at the Knight Titan in the center of the battlefield. The mechanical behemoth stood tens of meters tall, its dual cannons constantly spewing beams of death, tearing through the Imperial forces' defenses.

Sanguinius flew toward it at astonishing speed. The mech tried to track this golden lightning, but his agile flight path eluded the cannons, leaving only trails of fire behind him.

"For the Emperor!" He roared, his voice thundering across the battlefield.

His sword struck viciously at the Titan's joint, a weak point of the mechanical behemoth. The longsword emitted a piercing hum as the golden blade tore a deep gash in the Titan's armor.

The Titan began to sway, attempting to knock Sanguinius down with its massive power arm, but he leaped again, diving toward its head and plunging his sword deep into the cockpit.

Rumble.

The Titan's explosion was like a small sun, fierce flames engulfing the surrounding rebel soldiers.

"Run! The Blood Angels of the Imperium are here!"

"Someone save me, my leg! My leg!"

The rebel soldiers scattered.

Sanguinius flew out of the flames, unharmed. He stood on the Titan's wreckage, roaring.

"The Imperium is invincible! For the Emperor!"

"For glory!"

Then, countless Blood Angels emerged from drop pods, and the Imperium's strongest warriors began to slaughter the rebels savagely.

Sanguinius, without hesitation, charged toward another Knight Titan. The seemingly massive mechanical monster was like chopping vegetables in Sanguinius's hands.

The rebel forces began to rout as Imperial soldiers watched their mech strongholds being destroyed one after another. Sanguinius's image became the embodiment of their nightmare. Every one of his attacks brought destruction and death.

His voice echoed through the communication channels, like the Emperor's decree descending. "Your betrayal can only be cleansed by destruction!"

For three days and three nights, Sanguinius and his Blood Angels warriors destroyed over twenty Titan mechs on Verendax, each precisely and mercilessly shattered.

The rebellious Knight families finally suffered complete defeat. Their towers collapsed, and their lords died by Sanguinius's sword.

When the last Titan burned into scrap metal, the battlefield fell into brief silence.

Sanguinius stood on high, his gaze sweeping across the ravaged land. His golden wings trembled slightly in the wind, like a divine miracle of the Emperor.

With the crackling of burning debris, Sanguinius frowned. He smelled something unusual.

The brutal silence of the battlefield was suddenly broken. A nauseating stench permeated the air, and a low vibration came from underground, as if something massive was stirring.

Then the ground surged violently like waves, and huge cracks spread from beneath the Knight Titan's feet.

In the shadows at the battlefield's edge, a group of terrifying figures manipulated something. Beneath their dark robes, countless squirming maggots covered even their faces. They communicated in strange whispers, then pointed toward Sanguinius's location.

"What is that thing!"

"It's xenos! It's xenos!"

A surviving Imperial Guard soldier screamed in terror, but before he could finish, a giant tentacle erupted from underground, dragging him into a crack. He couldn't even cry out.

Giant underground monsters burst from the earth, their bodies seemingly fused from rotten flesh, steel, and unknown substances. They had no fixed shape, growing countless twisted tentacles and orifices, emitting piercing roars.

"Roar!"

The monsters ravenously devoured corpses and metal wreckage on the battlefield, their sharp teeth tearing everything to shreds. The speed of their consumption was astonishing. Flesh and steel on the ground were quickly digested, and the monsters' bodies underwent terrifying changes.

They swelled. Bulging sacs on their bodies burst open, growing countless arms, each hand gripping bone-like weapons resembling blades.

Even more terrifying, huge eyes emerged from their heads one after another, red eyeballs constantly rotating, as if observing all directions at once.

"Ah! Monsters! Ah!"

An Imperial soldier shrieked. He had never seen such a terrifying monster. When tentacles wrapped around him, he appeared on the monster's body within minutes, his eyes lifeless.

A flash of rage crossed Sanguinius's eyes. Ever since his father bestowed upon him a piece of brass, he had felt changes within himself. He could even enter the Black Rage at will now, and he heard calls from the Warp, as if there was another him.

Sanguinius steadied himself.

"No matter what you are! The Imperium cannot be insulted!"

Sanguinius roared, his golden wings spreading as he instantly charged toward the hundred-eyed monster at the very front. His speed was like lightning, the sword in his hand transforming into golden light as he struck fiercely at the monster's grotesque head.

But just as the blade was about to fall, Sanguinius suddenly felt an unusual force rush into his consciousness. It was bone-chilling cold, mixed with endless whispers and madness, as if countless souls wailed in his ears, or as if some evil will tried to control his mind.

"Get out!" Sanguinius growled. His eyes burned with golden-red fury, fiercely repelling the power invading his mind.

In that instant, the entire battlefield seemed to tremble with his anger.

Freed from the control, Sanguinius no longer hesitated. He flew back quickly to the Blood Angels' battle line.

"Do not approach these monsters! Use long-range attacks only!"

His tone carried undeniable authority. He felt a sense of familiarity with these xenos, yet his mind was blank. But his subconscious told him that Exterminatus must be initiated.

The Blood Angels quickly adjusted their formation after hearing the order. Their tactics were agile and precise. Assault squads retreated behind more distant cover, and snipers and heavy weapon squads began adjusting their firing angles.

A warrior raised a heavy plasma cannon, locked onto a roaring hundred-eyed monster, and at the moment he pulled the trigger, a scorching plasma beam ripped through the air, gouging a large hole in the creature's body.

The monster let out a pained roar.

"Roar!"

Then it absorbed corpses on the ground again, even picking up a similar weapon. To the warrior's shocked gaze, the monster actually operated the plasma weapon and fired it at him.

They were like unkillable monsters. As long as they weren't completely destroyed, they would rise again.

"Don't fret, brothers! Fire at me!"

"For the glory of the Blood Angels!"

A Blood Angel, without hesitation, detonated a tactical nuclear bomb, and instantly a giant mushroom cloud appeared there.

But to their surprise, the monster wasn't completely dead. Only a charred piece of flesh remained, still devouring everything around it, even the scattered Astartes bodies and ceramite armor on the ground.

Seeing this, all the Blood Angels' eyes widened in fury, roaring in anger.

"Damn it! For the Blood Angels!"

"For the Primarch! Kill!"

But unexpectedly, the ground instantly cracked open, and countless tentacles attacked again, entangling dozens of Blood Angels.

Seeing this, Sanguinius could no longer suppress the turmoil in his heart, roaring madly. "Release my sons! All of you, DIE!"

"RGHHHHAA!" Sanguinius flew into the air. A terrifying Warp fluctuation appeared around him.

Behind him, a giant shining meteorite faintly emerged. The meteorite's surface was entirely composed of light and energy, surrounded by countless eye-like ribbons that slowly rotated, like myriad eyes observing the universe.

Infinite psychic flames shot out from the eyes!
