Chapter 24 - Chapter 23 — The Line That Shouldn’t Be Crossed

Alright Choco

Leo's POV

I hate this.

Not the argument.

Not even the silence.

I hate the way she looks at me now.

Like she's preparing herself to be disappointed.

The office felt suffocating.

Papers. Meetings. Calls.

None of it made sense when my mind kept going back to her.

To that moment.

"You met Chloe."

"Yes."

Maybe I should've explained better.

Maybe I should've told her everything from the start.

But it's too late for maybe.

"Mr. Leo, Miss Chloe is here to see you."

I froze.

Of course she is.

"Send her in."

The door opened.

Chloe walked in like she owned the place—confident, composed, and smiling like nothing had ever happened.

"It's been a while," she said smoothly.

I leaned back in my chair. "Make it quick."

She chuckled. "Still cold."

"I'm busy."

"You didn't seem busy last night."

My eyes narrowed. "Say what you came to say."

She stepped closer, placing a file on my desk.

"Business proposal," she said. "But that's not the interesting part."

I didn't touch it.

"What do you want, Chloe?"

She tilted her head, studying me.

"You've changed," she said. "You weren't this… distracted before."

"I'm not interested in your observations."

"No," she smiled faintly, "you're interested in her."

I didn't respond.

She took my silence as confirmation.

"Lana, right?" she continued. "She's different from the others."

"Don't talk about her," I said sharply.

Chloe raised her hands slightly, amused.

"Relax. I'm not here to fight."

She leaned in just a little.

"I'm here to warn you."

I scoffed. "You? Warning me?"

"Yes," she said, her tone suddenly serious.

"Because someone else is already playing the game."

My expression hardened.

"Mick."

The name landed like a bullet.

"What about him?" I asked.

Chloe's smile returned—but this time, it wasn't friendly.

"He's been asking questions. About you. About Lana."

My fists clenched.

"I'll handle it."

"I'm sure you will," she said softly. "But the question is… will she still trust you by the time you do?"

Silence.

That was the real problem, wasn't it?

Not Mick.

Not Chloe.

Lana.

Her trust.

And how close I was to losing it.

When Chloe turned to leave, she paused at the door.

"Oh, and Leo?" she added casually.

I didn't respond.

"You might want to go home early today."

Something in her tone made me look up.

"If you're not too late already."

And then she left.
