"The effect of Grand Aerial Assault Style!" Poma shouted angrily, "I'll destroy your Covering Card in the backfield!"
As Poma sent his card to the graveyard, the giant aerial attack robot accelerated forward, flying over Yugen's head.
Its flight speed was actually not slow, but under its massive body, it seemed sluggish, or perhaps more appropriately, heavy. The giant mecha really did fly parallel over Yugen like a combat bomber, bombs dropping one after another, exploding loudly in Yugen's backfield.
Poma squinted his dark eyes, staring intently at the smoke screen of explosions behind, as if expecting the embodiment of dark power from the bombing would be enough to make his opponent crash off the track.
But to his disappointment, in just the blink of an eye, the D-Wheel had rushed out from the smoke screen, with a trap card already activated beside it.
"Regrettably, I've activated a Cover Card," Yugen chuckled, "Trap Card 'Pandora's Treasure Scroll.'
This card can be activated when a card in my Magic or Trap zone becomes the target of your card's effects.
Shift that target to this card, then draw two cards from the deck." (Original Card)
Yugen drew two cards.
"Tch, you saved your backfield huh." Poma grunted coldly, saying sinisterly, "But at this moment, the effect of Continuous Trap 'Free Ride' is also activated.
Since you used a card's effect to draw cards outside of the Draw Phase, I also draw two cards from the deck."
Poma likewise drew two cards.
"Free Ride certainly is a convenient effect for drawing cards from the opponent." Yugen smiled.
After all, he enjoyed using it himself before. In an animated world, methods to accelerate card draws are indeed common, practically everyone has a stack of varied card-drawing Divine Artifacts. In such an environment, Free Ride is indeed useful.
However, he felt it wasn't as effective in Riding Duels. Because most of the diverse card-drawing Divine Artifacts are Magic Cards, and ordinary Magic Cards can't be used in Riding Duels. With fewer card-drawing Divine Artifacts, Free Ride's effectiveness naturally decreases.
"Let's proceed to battle then!" Poma yelled, "Go ahead!
Giant Bomber - Grand Aerial Assault Style, attack 'Abyss Soldiers!'"
The bomber approached again, missiles trailing flames blasting out, continuously exploding along the track, pursuing the Abyss Soldiers with explosive fireballs.
"Then activate a Cover Card."
Yugen declared.
"Continuous Trap 'Super Gravity Net.'
Neither side's Four-Star or higher monsters can attack!"
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The continuous bombing and missiles exploded on the transparent gravity barrier, with flames and shrapnel isolated outside, causing no damage.
"What? Attack block?" Poma's expression changed slightly.
"The duel has just begun, wanting to end it like that is too impatient, isn't it?" Yugen smiled.
Poma snorted coldly.
If conditions allowed, he wished he could strip this hateful guy in one turn, with no leisure to play slowly with him.
Poma: "Set one card face-down, end the turn."
Just then, more figures began appearing in the duel arena.
The first to arrive at the venue was Jack Atlas. Since he arrived in the city, his residence was arranged by the Public Security Maintenance Bureau. Additionally, as Yugen and Poma were dueling at the venue hosting the Lucky Cup, a venue often used for the king receiving challengers as a Riding Duel arena, his residence was intentionally placed nearby, allowing him to arrive first.
Jack's arm was glowing with the Red Dragon mark, with the brilliance amplifying to the extreme as he stepped into the arena. He clutched his arm, enduring the pain of the mark, and walked in, happening to see the two D-Wheels speeding past.
"Riding Duel? This is...!?"
It was known that spectators watching card battles in Yu-Gi-Oh! typically had superior eyesight, and even with the two D-Wheels speeding past, although he didn't recognize the rider on the monstrous giant D-Wheel, he instantly recognized the person on the smaller D-Wheel.
After all, since arriving in the city, he had been in daily contact with him.
"Godwin?" Jack was astonished.
Honestly, since Jack accepted Godwin's invitation to come from the Satellite District to the city, seeing his superior personally dueling was definitely the first time. Even more rare was that it was a Riding Duel, which was even more peculiar.
He didn't even know Godwin could ride a motorcycle.
And though he didn't recognize the duelist opposite him, he could feel an intense dark aura from the giant D-Wheel. The presence of the Dragon Seal assured him that this was the source of the crisis in his heart, with no need to have met them, the Dragon Seal told him, it was an extremely dangerous enemy.
Godwin was battling an unknown enemy... personally?
Jack found it incredible.
Yugen: "Then for my turn, draw a card."
He drew a card, as golden light erupted in the D-Wheel's graveyard.
"During the Standby Phase, the effect of the Water Attribute Monster sent to the graveyard by the 'Abyss Soldiers' effect last turn also activates."
Yugen revealed the card exiting the graveyard.
"The card discarded last turn is 'Assassin Snake.'
This card can return directly to its owner's hand during the Standby Phase if present in the graveyard." (Old version effect)
Yugen returned Assassin Snake to his hand.
"Then once again activate 'Abyss Soldiers' effect," Yugen continued, "Once per turn, by discarding a Water Attribute Monster from your hand, return any card on the field to its owner's hand."
Poma was shocked: "Does this mean, as long as that snake exists, the effect of Abyss Soldiers becomes cost-free!?"
"As expected from a Dark Marker, understanding quickly."
Yugen smiled and said.
"Indeed. Thus, once again I'll discard the Water Attribute 'Assassin Snake' from my hand and return 'Giant Bomber - Grand Aerial Assault Style' to your hand."
The green killer snake's ghostly figure flashed, its body turned into pure water flowing into the Trident held by Abyss Soldiers. Abyss Soldiers swung the Trident, with the water spinning into a whirlpool jet toward Poma's gigantic mecha.
Poma's face was grim.
The effect of the Giant Bomber was actually quite formidable.
Not only could you discard a card during your turn to destroy a card, but once during the opponent's turn, upon their monster summon or card set, you could destroy that monster or set card and inflict 800 damage.
The ability to destroy cards during your turn as well as to interfere once per turn has been an incredibly formidable resistance force in the current environment.
And such a trump card came with very high requirements on hand quality and was a big monster he had almost depleted all his resources to create.
Having such a trump card bounced back to the hand was almost unacceptable.
"Activate Cover Card!" Poma shouted, "Trap Card 'Crossbow Team!'
Sacrifice a monster on your field to destroy one card on the opponent's field!"
Rather than having it returned to the hand by an opponent, it was better to destroy it yourself!
"I sacrifice 'Giant Bomber - Grand Aerial Assault Style!'"
