If it weren't for the origins of the Hundred Beasts, Yamato might not have been wanted. Now that her identity is finally cleared, she certainly won't be wanted again.
Nowadays, she's living the life of an old mother. "Yamato," limited by "Kaidou," lacks an understanding of the outside world and has little knowledge of navigation, so she's teaching the other some basic knowledge.
Through a few days of personal instruction, "Yamato's" Oden syndrome has somewhat eased.
At this moment, they look more like traveling sisters.
"Look, this is the log pose. In the New World, the log pose has three dials, and the one with the least needle movement marks the safest route. You can use this to decide your course.
Fighting is still necessary because only through combat can you grow stronger. But remember to run if things feel off, or else your dreams won't come true.
Oh, and if you see people with bubble helmets, hold your temper for a bit. Those bastards deserve a beating, no doubt, but you can't handle the consequences yet."
Yamato suddenly realized that this world also has those annoying Heavenly Celestial Dragons, and she didn't feel at ease without giving a proper warning.
"Okay, I've got it."
Under Yamato's influence, "Yamato" began to write her own diary. However, she still kept Oden's diary with her and hadn't completely given it up.
She wasn't naturally the type to stay put. With defeating "Kaidou" as her ultimate goal, she didn't want to stumble halfway.
"You bastards, where did you two women come from? My dreams were destroyed by you!"
Next to the two Yamatos lay a group of pirates, sprawled in chaos. Their current identity as bounty hunters made capturing pirates a pretty reasonable task.
Yamato hadn't even finished her fight when she picked up the pirate navigator's log pose and started lecturing, which made the pirates feel insulted.
"Oh, right, there are scumbags like this everywhere on the sea. Once they set sail, they bring misfortune to others, so it's best to deal with them swiftly.
If a dream must be built on the suffering of countless people, then that dream should be destroyed entirely."
Saying that, she dealt a final blow to the pirate, removing another dangerous pirate crew from the sea.
In the days that followed, Yamato and "Yamato" sailed on the sea like sisters, living a pleasant life as bounty hunters.
It didn't take long before they made a name for themselves as sisters.
When they came to an island to rest, they unexpectedly met someone Yamato didn't expect.
"Admiral...Kuzan...."
"My, my, aren't you the famous twin sisters recently? Your information is outdated; I'm not an Admiral anymore.
Even if you were pirates, it wouldn't matter to me, so why so tense?"
"Not an Admiral anymore?"
Yamato didn't lower her guard. She's not afraid of Kuzan, but it's different for the other "Yamato." She's not quite sure how she feels about this naive version of herself.
Perhaps it's reluctance, maybe sympathy; overall, she just wants to take care of her for a while.
"Yes. Didn't the newspaper say so? If you're interested, I wouldn't mind sharing a bit."
It was the year 1521, a year after the Paramount War had ended. The deaths of Whitebeard and Ace had brought significant victories to the Navy, though at the cost of substantial losses.
Recently, Kuzan and Sakazuki battled over the Marshal position, and Kuzan was defeated in the end.
Due to their years as comrades, Sakazuki didn't finish off Kuzan, but Kuzan left the Navy and began his aimless journey.
Now he goes where his interests take him. He's open to conversation whenever he's interested.
The two Yamatos were also suppressing pirate forces, which left a favorable first impression on Kuzan.
...
"This guy was an Admiral...or rather, a former Admiral, and his combat power is monstrous. Since he's resigned, forming some ties with him could be beneficial."
Yamato whispered into "Yamato's" ear, passing on her knowledge.
Kuzan also started talking about past events.
"You know, fighting like that among contemporaries was quite heated. But what did he expect, being magma himself, could it not be fiery?"
"Akainu... he's the one who killed Ace, right?"
"Well, that's one way to put it. Fire Fist blocked Sakazuki's fist to protect his brother. Why, were you close with those two brothers?"
Yamato: "Not really familiar, just heard about them."
At this moment, she realized that without the Hundred Beasts during the Paramount War, the outcome was entirely different. That Blackbeard had become one of the Four Emperors.
"I see, well then, Straw Hat is quite the guy too. Few can accomplish what he did."
Kuzan chatted a bit before Yamato steered the conversation back.
"So what happened next? What was the outcome of your fight?"
"Well, as you can see, that guy broke my leg, and now I can only use my ability to make a prosthetic. Quite a hassle."
"Sounds pretty cool, though."
"Hahaha, you're a funny lady. You're the first to say that."
"Yamato's" comment left Kuzan unsure of how to respond, as losing a leg isn't something to boast about. Luckily, there was the other, relatively more tactful, Yamato.
"And what happened then?"
"After that? Well, that's it. He became the Marshal, and I left the Navy. But he was covered in injuries too from that fight. Young lady, you still can't hide your true self; spend more time learning from your sister."
Kuzan then chatted with the two Yamatos about many things until night fell, and they finally parted ways.
Yamato and "Yamato" returned to their temporary residence as usual, but Yamato suddenly stopped in her tracks.
"'Yamato,' I'm leaving."
"Where to? Aren't you taking me with you?"
"This time...I'm returning to my world. My adoptive father sent me a communication."
"I see...."
"Yamato's" tone was slightly downcast. On Ghost Island, she had no friends, no kind relatives; though she had only spent half a month with Yamato, those weeks were incredibly joyful.
Their ways of thinking were quite similar, and Yamato taught her a lot about the outside world. Hearing that Yamato was leaving, she felt a deep sense of loss.
Yet, she didn't attempt to persuade her otherwise. Having been confined for 19 years, she deeply understood the value of freedom.
"Don't forget me, okay? You've spent some time with another version of yourself.
I must have caused you a lot of trouble. Thank you for your care during this time."
"I won't forget. We're friends, aren't we? Let's make a promise here—I will come back in the future, and you must strive to grow strong, to achieve your goals as 'Yamato,' not as some Oden!"
