Chapter 104 - CHAPTER 100: I Just Want to Sleep…

Adventurers, guards, and anyone else present stared in complete disbelief at the horde of monsters advancing toward the capital.

It was a sight capable of crushing one's spirit.

Creatures of every size, shape, and species marched forward like a sea of destruction. Beasts with enormous fangs, bodies covered in scales, carapaces as thick as steel—each of them advancing relentlessly.

Even without mentioning the smaller monsters, which were already numerous enough to cause panic, the sheer number of Rank C monsters or higher was more than enough to plunge anyone into absolute despair.

Even trained adventurers, veterans who had faced monsters before, felt their blood run cold.

And what about the soldiers and ordinary, less experienced people? Many were visibly trembling, gripping their weapons so tightly that their fingers turned white.

Even seasoned adventurers—men and women with recorded feats, who had returned alive from countless deadly missions—now swallowed hard, unable to hide the terror etched across their faces.

"Guild Master…" Ellen's voice trembled as she tightened her grip on her staff. "What should we do now?"

Her entire body shook slightly, not only from fear, but from the crushing pressure of the horde before them.

Fuze remained silent for a few moments, watching the monsters' advance with a heavy gaze.

At that moment, only he had the authority to make the final decision.

Stand their ground… and possibly die fighting?

Or order a retreat and abandon the city?

A metallic sound echoed as Fuze drew the sword at his waist, the cold gleam of the blade reflecting the moonlight.

"Everyone!!" his voice rang out firmly, louder than the wind and the distant roars of the monsters. "Behind us is the capital of Blumund. Our wives, our children, our parents, our friends… they're all behind these walls!!"

He paused briefly, tightening his grip on the sword.

"We cannot retreat. At least, not now. We need to buy time. Enough time for them to evacuate!"

Fuze's words were like a spark thrown into dry powder.

The fighting spirit of most of those present ignited instantly.

It wasn't that Fuze possessed supernatural charisma or extraordinary oratory skills.

It was something far simpler.

Behind them were the people they loved.

And when it comes to protecting one's family, most people are willing to fight until their final breath.

"All mages, begin chanting your spells! Archers, prepare your bows! Warriors, form the front line! Protect the mages at all costs!"

Orders rang out in rapid succession.

Immediately, the mages raised their staffs and began chanting in unison.

Magic circles appeared in the air one after another, illuminating the walls with shades of red, blue, and green.

"Release!"

At the command, a massive volley of arrows tore through the sky, tracing black arcs against the moonlight before raining down like a deadly storm upon the monsters.

Low-level monsters were pierced through, their bodies shattered as blood of various colors splattered across the battlefield.

The screams of the monsters echoed, mingled with the sound of bones breaking.

However, the effectiveness of the attack dropped sharply as stronger monsters pressed forward.

The majins within the horde and the high-level monsters dodged with surprising agility or simply ignored the arrows, which shattered harmlessly against their tough hides.

After the first volley, the monsters that continued advancing were, without exception, true aberrations of power.

Then came the second wave.

Fireballs streaked across the sky, exploding as they struck the ground and the bodies of the creatures.

Ice spikes erupted from the earth, impaling monsters through their legs and torsos.

Lightning tore through the air, accompanied by gusts of wind and magical blades.

After several rounds of magical attacks, dozens of monsters had been slain.

But even so… it wasn't enough.

The most powerful monsters, those of high rank, were already dangerously close to the walls.

Archers fired until their arms ached.

Mages pushed themselves to the limit, burning through the last of their mana.

"This brings back memories…" Arthur murmured, watching everything with a strangely calm expression.

As time passed, the archers' quivers began to empty.

The mages' mana was nearly exhausted.

Many were forced to stop, gasping for breath, unable to continue casting.

"All warriors!" Fuze's voice rang out again, now carrying an inevitable, tragic tone. "Prepare for close combat! Protect our mages while they recover!"

He tightened his grip on his sword.

He could feel it.

Among that horde were monsters whose strength was dangerously close to Rank C+… perhaps even Rank B.

This would likely be the final battle for many of them.

Expressions of despair spread.

The long-range battle was over, and now everything would be decided in close combat.

Who would survive?

And even the survivors… what price would they have to pay?

Then, something completely unexpected happened.

A blond boy calmly stepped out from the capital's wall.

His body began to float into the air, slowly rising above the battlefield.

His clothes fluttered in the wind, and his golden hair shone under the moonlight.

"It was fun to watch," Arthur's carefree voice echoed. "But let's end the show already. I'm sleepy."

In the next instant, hundreds of golden portals opened in the sky.

I'm starting to feel more and more like a clichéd anime protagonist. I don't remember anything like this happening in the original Tensura material… he thought.

Golden light flooded the battlefield, turning the night into a dazzling spectacle.

From each portal, weapons of every kind were fired, each one falling like a divine judgment.

Every monster struck was killed instantly.

There was no resistance—no fight at all.

It was a complete and absolute massacre.

The horde simply vanished.

The scene was seared into the memories of everyone present.

The silence that followed was deafening.

All eyes turned to Arthur, still floating in the sky.

Adventurers, guards, and citizens alike—every single one of them stared at him in stunned disbelief.

Even Ellen, Kaval, and Gido, who believed they knew Arthur fairly well, were completely petrified.

Arthur… was he really that strong?

Then what were those previous "heroic rescues"?

A joke?

Even Fuze felt cold sweat trickle down his forehead.

"Could it be…" someone murmured. "Is he a hero sent by the goddess Luminous?"

The eyes of the followers of the Luminous Faith began to shine.

"Hero!"

The shout echoed.

"Hero! Hero! Hero!"

Within seconds, an entire crowd was chanting "hero" in unison.

Arthur blinked several times, utterly speechless.

What the hell!? he thought, dumbfounded. Why are they calling me a hero!?

It wasn't exactly wrong…

But still, it was strange to see an entire crowd shouting that with such fervor.

Especially when all he wanted was to go to sleep.
