Chapter 31: Audition Success

That afternoon, Director Kevin sent Matthias Engel a set of photos.

"I think this girl is very good; she's quite similar to Elizabeth in the game, and she has some acting experience. What do you think?"

Kevin initially sent the photos to Lukas Weber, hoping he would make the final decision. But Lukas looked at them and told him to send them to Matthias, saying that Matthias's confirmation would be enough. Although he wasn't sure of the logic behind it, Kevin still sent the photos to Matthias.

Matthias looked at the photos and smiled with relief. The girl in the photos was none other than Lena Morgen, known to her fans as Leni.

"I think she's alright. If possible, let her try out for the role of Elizabeth."

"I was thinking the same thing. I've also found the actor for Jack; he'll be here in a couple of days. Here are his photos."

Kevin then sent photos of the male lead. One look wasn't much, but a second look was startling: he looked almost identical to Johnny Depp, and his real name was Jack Richard. After checking Jack's information, it turned out he was also a Hollywood actor. His acting was solid, but the movies he made were all lukewarm.

"Hmm, the male lead is also pretty good. I have a three-minute game video clip here, which includes Captain Jack's dialogue. You can use this video to understand Jack's personality, body language, and so on."

"Okay, I'll watch it in a bit. What about the special effects team?"

"I've already finalized the special effects team. My team will be fully responsible for all areas that require special effects."

"OK!"

After hanging up the phone, Matthias stretched. He opened the door and saw Sophie Morgen and Leni eating. Leni looked a bit distracted.

Sophie comforted her, "It's okay if the audition failed. You just graduated; how could you succeed on your first try?"

Matthias scratched his head, "How are things progressing?"

Sophie said, "Yesterday, I sent a few artists from our agency to audition for Director Kevin. After the audition, he didn't say anything, just told us to leave, so I guess it failed."

"That's not necessarily true; maybe he chose an artist from your agency," Matthias teased.

"How is that possible? Our agency only has local talent. Even if Kevin isn't at his peak, he's an internationally renowned director; he should be casting first-tier stars."

Leni also looked sad, "I think I'm quite suitable for the role of Elizabeth, Sophie, boo hoo hoo~~"

"Alright, Lena, don't be sad. Let's go back to the office and do live streaming~~ We can audition again when a suitable opportunity comes along."

Sophie patted her head. Just then, a phone rang urgently. Both of them froze for a moment.

"It's my phone."

Leni took out her phone, which showed an unknown number.

"Maybe it's Director Kevin calling," Matthias smiled slightly.

"I don't think that's very likely; it's probably some kind of telemarketing scam," Leni said confidently.

"Answer it quickly. If it's the director's call, then you owe me a month of late-night snacks," Matthias said.

"Okay."

Leni answered the phone, "Hello?"

Kevin's voice came from the other end, "You are Lena Morgen, right? I'm Kevin, the director of Pirates of the Caribbean. Congratulations on passing the audition. We officially invite you to join the crew and play the role of the female lead, Elizabeth."

Leni was stunned by the news and didn't react for a moment. Sophie seemed even more excited than her sister; she nudged her younger sister, telling her not to space out and to quickly respond to the director.

Leni said, "Okay, Director Kevin, I'll head to the set right away."

"Great, I look forward to a wonderful collaboration." Kevin hung up the phone.

"Yay! The audition was successful!"

Sophie and Leni hugged each other, jumping excitedly. Amidst her happiness, Sophie also wrapped her arms around Matthias, pulling him into the embrace.

"You succeeded, Lena! You're going to play the female lead!"

"This is great! I can't believe my dream actually came true!"

"This is a huge positive for both you and our company. If this movie becomes a hit, as an artist from our agency, you'll instantly make us famous throughout Germany!"

"I hope that happens too, Sophie."

The two sisters chatted back and forth, leaving no time for Matthias to interject. Matthias was sandwiched between them, treated like a human pillow. Feeling the proximity, it seemed a bit inappropriate. So Matthias struggled out of their embrace and finally managed to catch his breath.

"Matthias, thanks to your suggestion, I can't believe Lena succeeded!"

Sophie patted Matthias's shoulder.

"I just said it offhand. The main thing is that Lena's acting skills are up to par and she earned the director's approval. I've played the game, and I feel that Lena really does resemble the character named Elizabeth."

Leni said, "It's probably because of that."

"Don't forget the month of late-night snacks."

"No problem."

Seeing the two sisters so happy, Matthias felt a slight sense of relief. To help Leni portray Elizabeth well, Matthias even copied a video of Elizabeth from the game for her to study. Lena was very grateful for this.

Sophie said, "I didn't expect you to be able to help my sister even while staying at home."

"So, just let me stay at home; I want to be a homebody."

"Not looking for a girlfriend anymore?"

"No hurry; if fate wills it, she will appear."

"You're becoming more and more relaxed. I was still hoping for you to make a comeback one day."

"Perhaps."

"You can just stay here then. I'm taking my sister to the set now. Bye, old friend~~"

After saying goodbye, Sophie left with Leni. Just then, Matthias's phone rang; it was Lukas Weber calling.

"Matthias, do you have the specific update content for the next version yet? What did the Ghost Developer say?"

"Yes, I do. I'll send you the detailed compiled information in a bit."

"Great, that's a lifesaver. Many players have been asking about the update these past few days. Once you send it over, I'll organize it, and then we'll hold the version preview press conference."

Matthias sent the version update content document to Lukas, accessing the data through his Game Producer System. The completion of the Barbossa dungeon marked the end of the content for this version. Next up was the content for the next version, which involved many changes, expected to greatly surprise players.

That evening, Unreal Entertainment's official website released an announcement:

"We will hold a live stream preview press conference for Pirates of the Caribbean's first expansion pack, 'The Cursed Chest,' at 8 PM the day after tomorrow. This version update will include many important contents. All players are requested to tune in on time."

As soon as this announcement was released, it immediately trended on the hot searches in Germany that night. Players of Pirates of the Caribbean eagerly shared the news. Many bloggers posted their views on the upcoming version update and their imagined update content.
