Ayla's POV
As Elena's hand held mine while we stepped out, my mind went into overdrive. Why was she acting like this? Why had she said we had something to do when clearly we didn't? Why had she dragged me out of that banquet so abruptly? Was she just a boss worried about her employee or could she actually be jealous of me talking to someone else? No. That wasn't possible.
I shook my head, trying to push the thought away.
Why would she be jealous when we're not even that close? She doesn't even remember anything about me from the past anymore. And even if she did, even if somehow she remembered, there's nothing from those days that could make her jealous. All of it, the past, those moments, those days, was just trauma stacked on trauma she gave me. I only had the nerve to remember because I wanted revenge. But she did it just because she had the power, simply because she was bored. And there is no reason for her to remember.
