Chapter 36 - The Billionaire Contract and the Fight for Family

1. đź’” Waiting for Good News

Khali sat in the hospital corridor, staring at his phone.

For a man who had played in front of thousands of supporters, scored in Champions League finals, and captained Nigeria, he had never felt so helpless.

His mother was still receiving treatment. Yusuf, his beloved cousin and childhood best friend, remained under medical supervision following the accident.

A nurse approached him.

"Your mother is awake and asking for you."

Khali stood immediately.

"Can I see her?"

"Yes. Just give her time to rest."

He entered the room and sat beside her.

"Mum, how are you feeling?"

"I'm tired, my son, but I'm glad you're here."

Khali held her hand.

"You frightened me."

She smiled weakly. "You were always the one frightening me when you climbed trees and ran around playing football!"

Khali laughed through his tears.

"Mum, that was years ago!"

"And you still haven't learned to slow down."

They laughed together, and for the first time in days, Khali felt a little hope returning.

The doctors were continuing their investigations, and he knew they still needed time to understand her condition.

Before leaving, he kissed her forehead.

"I'll be back tomorrow."

"I'll be waiting."

2. ❤️ Ameera Arrives in Nigeria

That afternoon, Khali received a call from Ameera.

"Where are you?" she asked.

"Still at the hospital."

"Good. Stay there."

Khali frowned.

"Why?"

"Because I'm coming to you."

"What do you mean?"

Ameera smiled at the camera.

"I'm in Nigeria, Khali."

He jumped to his feet.

"WHAT?"

She laughed.

"I wanted to surprise you, but I thought you'd probably panic if I appeared without warning!"

Within an hour, Khali met her at the family home.

The moment he saw her, he rushed forward and embraced her.

Ameera held him tightly.

"You don't have to carry everything alone," she whispered.

Khali buried his face against her shoulder.

"I've missed you so much."

"I've missed you too."

She gently touched his cheek.

"How is your mother?"

"She is awake, but the doctors are still investigating her illness."

"And Yusuf?"

"Still being treated. We're waiting for more information."

Ameera squeezed his hand.

"Then we'll wait together."

That evening, they visited Khali's mother.

His mother smiled when she saw Ameera.

"Look at you two. You came together."

Ameera hugged her carefully.

"We're here for you, Mum."

Khali watched them, feeling grateful that the two people closest to his heart were together.

For a moment, the hospital room felt warmer.

3. 🔵 Manchester City's Record-Breaking Offer

The next morning, Khali received an urgent call from Manchester City.

The sporting director spoke first.

"Khali, we understand that you're dealing with a difficult family situation. We want you to know that the club supports you."

"Thank you. That means a lot."

"We've finalized our proposed contract terms. The offer includes a major salary increase, substantial performance bonuses, loyalty payments, and a long-term commitment from the club."

Khali listened carefully.

The figures were extraordinary. If the agreement went through, it would become one of the most lucrative contracts of his career.

The sporting director continued.

"We want you to remain a central figure at Manchester City. You're not just a talented player. You're a leader."

Khali looked at Ameera, who was sitting beside him.

He remembered the years of struggle, the first academy trials, and the dusty pitches where he and Bello had dreamed about becoming professionals.

Then he thought about his mother and the future he wanted to build with Ameera and their child.

"I appreciate the offer," he said. "I've thought about it carefully. I want to continue building my future at Manchester City."

The director paused.

"Does that mean you're ready to agree?"

Khali smiled.

"Yes. I accept the terms."

"Excellent. We'll arrange the formal paperwork and announcement once everything is finalized."

When the call ended, Khali sat quietly for a moment.

Ameera hugged him.

"Congratulations, my love!"

Khali smiled.

"I've signed my future to the club where I achieved my biggest dreams."

"Just remember," Ameera teased, "that your new contract doesn't mean you can stop doing the dishes."

Khali stared at her.

"Surely there must be a bonus clause for that?"

Ameera burst out laughing.

For the first time in days, Khali laughed without feeling guilty.

The official announcement

Once the paperwork was completed, Manchester City announced Khali's new long-term contract.

The headline spread across football news:

MANCHESTER CITY SECURE KHALI'S FUTURE WITH A MAJOR NEW CONTRACT!

Supporters celebrated.

Former players praised his commitment.

Young footballers in Nigeria shared the news with pride.

Bello sent a message immediately.

Bello: "So the billionaire has signed!"

Khali: "Don't start."

Bello: "When are you buying me a car?"

Khali: "When you score a hat-trick against City."

Bello: "Start saving your money, then."

Khali laughed and put his phone away.

He had made his decision. But he also knew that a contract could not solve every problem in his life.

4. 🏥 News About Yusuf

Later that afternoon, Khali and Ameera returned to the hospital.

A doctor asked to speak with the family.

Khali's heart began racing.

"Doctor, how is my cousin?"

The doctor explained that Yusuf was receiving ongoing treatment and that his condition needed careful monitoring. The medical team was assessing his injuries and would provide updates as they learned more.

Khali nodded, trying to absorb every word.

"Will he recover?"

"We're doing everything we can. It's too early to promise a particular outcome, but we'll keep you informed."

Khali thanked the doctor.

As soon as the doctor left, he sat down and covered his face.

Ameera sat beside him.

"Khali…"

He looked at her, tears running down his cheeks.

"Yusuf was there when I had nothing. He believed in me before anyone knew my name."

Ameera held him.

"Then when he is able to have visitors, remind him of that. Tell him the stories you shared. Let him know he's not alone."

Khali nodded.

That evening, he sent Yusuf a voice message.

"Bro, it's Khali. You remember when we used to play football in Zangola and you always claimed you were better than me?"

He chuckled sadly.

"You still haven't proved it. So you need to get better and come back to argue with me."

He paused.

"I love you, brother. We're all waiting for you."

He sent the message, hoping Yusuf would be able to hear it.

5. 🌷 Khali's Mother Gives Him Advice

That night, Khali sat beside his mother.

Ameera had gone to get something to eat, leaving them with a quiet moment together.

His mother looked at him.

"I heard about your new contract."

Khali smiled.

"Yes, Mum. I agreed to the terms."

"Are you happy with your decision?"

"Yes. I want to keep playing for City."

She nodded.

"Then give them your best. But remember that your worth isn't measured by your salary."

Khali listened carefully.

"When you were a little boy, you used to come home with torn clothes and dirty boots. You would tell me you were going to play in Europe one day."

Khali laughed softly.

"I remember."

"I didn't know whether it would happen. But I knew you loved the game."

She took his hand.

"Never allow money or fame to make you forget the people who helped you. And when your child arrives, teach them that being kind is just as important as being successful."

Khali's eyes filled with tears.

"I promise, Mum."

She smiled.

"Good. Now stop worrying so much that you forget to eat."

Khali laughed.

"You and Ameera are exactly the same."

"Someone has to look after you!"

They laughed together.

Khali left the room feeling stronger. His mother was still receiving care, and her recovery was not guaranteed, but he had been able to share a precious moment with her.

6. âš˝ Bello Makes His Promise

Meanwhile, Bello was training in Manchester.

He had heard about Khali's family difficulties and wanted to do something meaningful.

After training, he called Khali.

"Bro, how's your mother?"

"She is receiving treatment. We're taking things day by day."

"And Yusuf?"

"Still under medical supervision."

Bello went quiet.

"I wish I could be there."

"I know."

"Listen, I'll keep working hard here. You focus on your family. Don't worry about me or Nigeria right now."

Khali smiled faintly.

"You're my vice-captain. I should be telling you to focus on the team."

Bello laughed.

"And I'm telling you to focus on your family. For once, listen to someone!"

Khali shook his head.

"Thank you, brother."

Bello became serious.

"When we were young, we promised we'd make it together. That promise wasn't just about football. We're family, Khali. If you need anything, tell me."

Khali looked out of the window.

"I'm lucky to have you."

"And I'm lucky to have you. Now get some rest. We still have a derby to win when you return."

Khali smiled.

"Dream on."

7. 👶 A Promise to Their Unborn Child

Later that evening, Khali and Ameera sat together in the garden.

The night was peaceful, and the air was cool.

Ameera rested her hand over her growing baby bump.

"Have you thought about what you'll do when the baby arrives?" she asked.

Khali smiled.

"I've already decided."

"Oh really?"

"First, I'll teach the baby how to kick a ball."

Ameera rolled her eyes.

"Khali!"

"Fine. First, I'll teach the baby how to walk. Then we'll discuss football."

She laughed and rested her head on his shoulder.

Khali grew thoughtful.

"I want our child to grow up knowing that family matters more than fame."

Ameera looked at him.

"Then we have to show them that, not just tell them."

He nodded.

"I want to be there for the important moments. The first words, the first steps, the school days. I don't want my child to know me only from television."

"You can have a demanding career and still be a loving father," Ameera said. "We'll plan carefully, communicate, and help each other."

Khali took her hand.

"I don't know what the future will bring. My mum is ill, Yusuf is recovering, and there will always be challenges in football. But I know I want to face those challenges with you."

Ameera smiled.

"And you won't have to face them alone."

He kissed her forehead.

"Thank you for coming to Nigeria."

"Where else would I be?"

They sat together in silence, looking up at the stars.

Khali had received a huge contract, but the things he valued most could not be written into any agreement.

His family.

His friendship with Bello.

His love for Ameera.

And the little life they were preparing to welcome.

8. 🌅 A New Chapter Begins

The next morning brought no instant miracle.

Khali's mother continued receiving medical care, and Yusuf remained under the doctors' supervision.

But Khali was no longer trying to carry every worry by himself.

He had Ameera beside him.

He had Bello supporting him from Manchester.

He had a club that had agreed to give him time to attend to his family.

And he had the determination to face whatever came next.

Before leaving the hospital that afternoon, Khali visited his mother once more.

"Mum, I'll come back tomorrow."

She smiled.

"Go and rest, my son."

He kissed her forehead.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

Khali stepped outside and took a deep breath.

His football career was entering a new era. His new contract was agreed, his twenty-third birthday had passed, and his family was preparing for a new arrival.

But he understood that the most important victories were sometimes the quiet ones: being present, keeping promises, and refusing to give up hope.

Khali had secured his future at Manchester City. Now he would fight for the future of the people he loved.
