Chapter 186 - Chapter 185: Kurama Clan Attacks, Yakumo Goes Berserk

In the woods outside Konohagakure, Naruto and his group kept running forward, following Pakkun.

Suddenly, Pakkun's nose twitched. He sensed someone following them—and not just one person, but a whole group.

"Leave it to me. You guys go first!" Yakumo immediately volunteered to stay behind.

No one objected. Her abilities were perfect for ambushes, and stalling their pursuers wouldn't take her long.

But soon, Yakumo's expression changed.

The ones chasing them were members of the Kurama clan!

At the front was Kurama Unkai, the current head of the clan—and Yakumo's uncle.

"Yakumo, you should wake up!" Kurama Unkai called out, standing just a short distance away with his people.

His tone was earnest, almost pleading. "If you keep going down this path, neither you nor our clan will have a future!"

"You guys are so annoying!" Yakumo frowned, clearly impatient. "I've already said everything I needed to say. Your affairs have nothing to do with me. If you keep pestering me, I'll be rude!"

Itsuki had already asked Tsunade to pass word to the Kurama clan, and for a time they had behaved themselves.

But now, while Konoha was too busy to watch over them, they dared to chase Yakumo all the way here.

Kurama Unkai wasn't exactly a villain, but he was definitely unpredictable.

In the original timeline, he had been the one who reported to the Third Hokage that Ido, Yakumo's darker self, had been born inside her body—and he asked Hiruzen to have her killed.

Hiruzen refused.

Later, he led people to the Satomi Mountain Villa to kidnap Yakumo and use her to rebuild the clan, fighting with Kurenai Yuhi in the process.

Eventually, Yakumo dragged everyone into her illusion world, and Unkai sacrificed himself to save Naruto.

This was the type of man he was—his stance was never firm. Not evil, but not reliable either.

"Is it still like this?" Unkai sighed. "Yakumo… I didn't want to resort to violence. But it seems there's no other way. Don't blame me. Everything I do is for the sake of the Kurama clan."

"Do you think you're my opponent?" Yakumo scoffed.

She didn't want to fight her clansmen. But if reason no longer worked, she could only end things once and for all.

"So I brought help!" Unkai's expression tightened with guilt, but he still shouted, "Lady, you can act now!"

Yakumo's eyes narrowed. Before she could react, a pink barrier suddenly rose up around her.

Caught off guard, Yakumo realized too late that there were other enemies hiding in the shadows.

When she tried to move, her body was instantly encased in thick pink crystals, locking her in place.

"Tch. What an overreaction—using me against such an inexperienced kid."

A woman stepped out of the trees. She had long purple hair and wore a green dress. In her hand, a glowing pink crystal pulsed faintly as she sneered.

Before this, she'd been told Yakumo was incredibly powerful and expected a tough fight. But this? Too easy.

No matter how strong someone was, once trapped by her Crystal Release, there was no escape.

"Lady Guren, thank you for your help!" Unkai said, bowing slightly with respect.

"If Yakumo used her Five Senses Illusion against us, none of us could even get close to her. But your Crystal Release is formidable!"

"I've heard of the Five Senses Illusion," Guren said dismissively. "Unfortunately, it's nothing compared to my Crystal Release. Even if she tried it, she couldn't touch me."

"Then come and try my ability!" A sharp voice rang out.

Guren and Unkai both stiffened in alarm, looking toward the sound.

A figure appeared from the distance, already mid-attack.

"Adamantine Sealing Chains: Twin Fang!"

Golden chains twisted together like drills, spinning with incredible speed as they shot toward Guren and Unkai.

The one who arrived was Karin. She had sensed something wrong on Yakumo's side and rushed back to help.

Unkai, skilled in genjutsu, didn't dare face the attack head-on. He immediately jumped aside, ignoring Guren.

Guren, however, was too prideful. If she hadn't just mocked Yakumo, maybe she would've dodged. But after boasting so loudly, how could she run now?

Grinding her teeth, she unleashed her chakra.

"Crystal Release: Crystal Pentagon Pillar!"

A crystal pillar shot from the ground to intercept the chains.

But her technique was rushed. The Adamantine Chains shattered it instantly, hardly slowing down.

The next second, the chains slammed into Guren's body.

She screamed, flying backward and crashing through several trees before stopping.

At the last moment, she coated her body in crystal to boost her defense. That was the only reason she wasn't skewered.

Even so, her clothes were torn open at the stomach, blood seeping out. She was badly injured.

"Damn it… Uzumaki Karin!" Unkai recognized her and snarled. "This is a Kurama clan matter. Don't interfere!"

Karin glanced at Yakumo, trapped in crystal, then glared coldly at Unkai.

"You teamed up with outsiders to attack Yakumo, and you still dare to call this a clan matter? Yakumo has been patient with you for so long, and this is how you repay her? You're a disgrace!"

Unkai's face turned purple with shame, unable to argue.

A Kurama clansman shouted angrily, "Shut up! Yakumo awakened our clan's kekkei genkai. She has an obligation to lead our clan to greatness! Instead, she wastes her talent and surrounds herself with outsiders like you. You're all obstacles to the Kurama clan's revival!"

"Hah! Did you ever treat Yakumo as family?" Karin sneered.

"When she was suffering, you abandoned her. Now that she's doing well, you come crawling back, demanding she sacrifice for you. Pathetic. I honestly pity Yakumo for being born into your clan."

The Kurama clansmen flushed with anger, but Karin ignored them. She turned back toward Yakumo.

"I won't waste words. Once I free her, she'll deal with you herself!"

Karin raised her hands, preparing to shatter the crystal encasing Yakumo.

"If you strike that, she'll be torn apart with it," Guren interrupted coldly, clutching her wounded stomach as she staggered back.

Karin froze, glaring. "What do you mean?"

Guren smirked. "My Crystal Release traps its target completely. Only I can undo it safely. If you break it by force, the one inside will shatter along with it."

Karin's eyes narrowed with fury. Golden chains lashed out, binding Guren tightly and suspending her in the air.

Guren, badly injured, didn't resist. She simply stared down at Karin with disdain.

"Release Yakumo, and I'll let you live!" Karin snapped.

"It won't matter if you kill me," Guren said fearlessly. "If I die, I'll make the crystal self-destruct before my last breath. Either way, she won't survive!"

"You—!" Karin's whole body trembled with anger. She didn't know what to do, the situation deadlocked.

But in the next instant—

BOOM!

The crystal around Yakumo suddenly shattered on its own.

Everyone's faces changed instantly.

Yakumo was alive, but her aura was different—cold, suffocating, and terrifying.

Her expression twisted into something feral, almost monstrous, as the chilling energy surged outward from her body...
