"So that means you're going to be nice to us from now on?", Algie asks, not even considering that this could be some kind of trap, unlike the other nerds at the table, who were looking at Mandy suspiciously.
"No, I just won't bully or be an asshole to you all for no reason! Anyway, if you still want to try out for the cheerleaders, you can, Beatrice! But don't get your hopes up, if you're bad, you won't make it even if I help you", Mandy clarifies things. She wouldn't force herself to be nice to them all the time; she just wouldn't pick on them for no reason.
"I'm not falling for this, this is a trap!", furrowing her brow hard, Beatrice says, refusing to believe that Mandy had changed just like that out of nowhere.
Stepping in, Jimmy says, coming to Mandy's defense, "It's not a trap; Mandy is trying to change."
"How can you be so sure?", Beatrice asks sharply. How could he know whether she was pretending or not?
"Because I would simply know if it were a lie", Jimmy says plainly. He had been trained by a fucking spy, sure, it had only been a month since the old man started teaching him, but that didn't change the fact that he had managed to see through Mandy's facade. No one there would be able to fool him; that was the truth.
"Well, can we get back to what really matters? G&G!", Melvin suddenly asks, cutting into the discussion.
"Yes, let's go! I just say how I want my character to be?", agreeing with Melvin, Jimmy asks to be sure.
"Yeah, for now, just give me a description of how you want him to be and a rough outline of his story! It's high medieval fantasy, so stick to the theme", Melvin nods in confirmation. The technical parts of the sheet and things like the character's background would be addressed later, and in private, so the other players wouldn't get spoilers.
"Alright, then my character will be called Edward Manson, aka 'Eddie', a tall human man with an athletic build. He has long, messy, curly black hair, wears a patterned bandana on his head so his hair doesn't block his vision, always wears black pants and leather jackets, and most of the time is seen wearing stylish sunglasses with round red lenses.
He's going to be a bard with problems with alcoholism and drugs; whenever possible, he seeks to get drunk or high, and there's a reason behind why he never wants to be sober, and it has to do with his past.
He is somewhat of a womanizer; he can't see a skirt without activating his flirtation mode. He is also talkative and friendly with everyone around him. The only thing he avoids talking about is his past", wanting to play a metalhead, Jimmy describes his character completely on the fly, with appearance and name entirely inspired by Eddie Munson from Stranger Things.
"Okay, now I'm excited! This character sounds really cool. We're going to have to talk privately later about the rest of his backstory", surprised by such an interesting character premise, especially coming from someone like Jimmy, Melvin says, completely hyped for this campaign.
Finishing the last sandwich Jimmy bought for her, Mandy suddenly asks, confused by the conversation, "What are you guys talking about?"
"G&G, it's a tabletop game where you play characters that don't exist in a world that also doesn't exist", Jimmy replies, giving a rough explanation of what a tabletop RPG is.
"And you're going to play with them?", Pete suddenly asks, joining the conversation.
"Yeah, it seems fun", Jimmy replies, shrugging.
"If Gary finds out, he's going to make fun of you forever", Pete warns him, worried about his friend.
"I want Gary to go fuck himself! The day I start caring about his opinions, you can bet he made some kind of pact with the devil, probably having to deep-throat the devil's cock to get what he wants", huffing, Jimmy says. Gary's opinions were worth as much as dog shit to him; that is, they were worth nothing.
Making faces of disgust, the four girls at the table exclaim in unison, """"Eww, that's gross!""""
Bringing Jimmy's attention back to him, Melvin asks, referring to the creation of Eddie Manson's character, "Anyway, is it okay if I stop by the dorm after classes so we can continue?"
"Sure", Jimmy replies with a thumbs-up.
Then, out of absolutely nowhere, Mandy asks, wanting to join in, "Ehh, can I play too?"
"You want to play? You?", Beatrice asks; she and the whole table look at Mandy strangely.
"Yes, it seems cool, and I'm trying new things, so...", Mandy replies with a shrug. She felt like joining in, so why not? She wasn't the girl anymore who would stop herself from doing something cool just because it might stain her social status.
Not wanting to be left out, Christy asks before turning to her best friend, wanting to know if Angie would participate as well. "Is there room for more? I want to join this thing, Angie, you too, right?"
"Yes, count me in", Angie says, her interest piqued.
Turning his gaze to Pete, Jimmy asks, "And you, Pete? Are you staying out?"
Jumping at the sudden question, Pete, hesitant, begins to try to justify his refusal, only to be interrupted, "I… it's just that Gary is going to…"
"Fuck Gary, man!", Jimmy raises his voice, cutting him off. For fuck's sake, was this idiot's entire life going to be dictated by Gary now?
"I… okay, you're right… fuck what Gary's going to think, I'm in!", stuttering, Pete gathers his courage and agrees to join.
Meanwhile, Melvin murmurs, thinking to himself, "Hmm, DMing a tabletop RPG with eight players is going to be tough, but I like the challenge!"
Seeing Melvin take a while to respond, Christy asks on behalf of everyone, "So, can we play?"
"Yes, I'll just need you to create your characters", accepting the request of the four, Melvin says, informing them about the creation of their characters.
"Does it have to be now?", Mandy asks. She wanted to join, but at the moment, she had no idea for a character.
"No, we'll do it later, that way you have time to think about how you want your characters to be", Melvin replies, giving them time to think it through.
"Eight players? That means besides us, there are three more. Are those three of you?", murmuring to himself, Jimmy turns to Algie, Beatrice, and Bucky before asking.
"Yes, Melvin has been selling us on this campaign for a while; he talks about it as if it were his ultimate masterpiece", Bucky replies for the three of them. Of the nerds, they were the only ones to agree to participate in this campaign; the rest were busy with something or just weren't interested at the moment.
"I didn't realize you played RPG too, Beatrice!", Jimmy comments, looking at Beatrice.
"I only play when Ernest isn't participating; he doesn't let anyone have fun properly", Beatrice replies with a scoffing huff. Ernest is very annoying. He always wants to be the DM, most of his campaigns end in a TPK, and when someone else DMs in his place and he plays as a player, he always finds a way to ruin everyone's game.
The nine then continue talking until the bell rings, at which point everyone gets up and goes their separate ways, heading to their respective classes.
