Chapter 257 - Chapter 257: Reward! Fossil Pokémon

Chapter 257: Reward! Fossil Pokémon

Kenji's mission was complete. The rest was up to professionals like Yang Yue to clean up the scene.

Whether it was the three ancient artifacts that resealed the Super Ancient Pokémon or the strange minerals created by Ancient Alakazam, all possessed immense research value.

However, judging by Yun Erdun's state, a gym battle was definitely off the table for today.

Having witnessed the majesty of the Super Ancient Pokémon, this trip was already a massive success for Kenji.

Seeing things from the anime manifest in this world felt dreamlike and wondrous.

Over the next few days, Kenji took a well-deserved break. He had spent a lot of energy on the excavation, so he needed to recharge.

As a tourist hotspot, Green City had a thriving tourism industry with plenty of activities to enjoy with Pokémon in the suburbs.

Days passed in a blur of eating, drinking, and light training with his team.

A week slipped by unnoticed.

Under the blue sky, a gentle breeze swept across the endless grassland.

Kenji lay half-reclined on Slaking's belly, feeling the grass tickle his skin as the wind blew.

Bellossom, Servine, and Arbok lay beside him.

Beedrill didn't like lying down, so it rested lazily on top of Slaking, quietly enjoying the peaceful moment.

Unlike Gyarados, whose drive to become stronger was for the sake of strength itself, Beedrill's obsession with power stemmed from responsibility.

As Kenji's Ace, Beedrill refused to lose.

And indeed, to this day, Beedrill had only lost once under Kenji's command—against Meng Yitian's Scyther.

But gradually, as its strength grew, Beedrill realized it had unknowingly reached a terrifying level.

Ordinary Legendary Pokémon were no longer worthy opponents. Champion-level Pokémon were like ants to it.

Invincible below Master-rank.

That was Beedrill's current strength.

This realization finally allowed Beedrill to relax and grant itself more time to rest.

Nearby, Ninetales stood on the grass, its white fur pristine, its heterochromatic eyes deep and mysterious.

Mankey's level was climbing steadily, now at Level 26. It was very close to the Level 28 requirement for evolving into Primeape.

At most, two more weeks.

As its level rose, Mankey's temper grew more explosive. It rarely stayed still.

And the gluttonous Electivire was currently standing in front of a barbecue grill, holding two giant skewers in its hands and munching happily while its tails managed the grilling.

Electivire had a great temperament—no bad intentions, just pure dedication to eating.

Ring ring ring...

Kenji reached out and grabbed his ringing phone. A glance showed it was Yun Erdun calling.

"Hello? Leader Yun... Yes, I have time... Okay, I'll head over right now..."

Hanging up, Kenji stood and brushed off the grass. He called out to his Pokémon, "Let's go, time to head back."

He recalled them one by one. Electivire, the foodie, couldn't bear to leave the last two skewers behind. Not caring if they were fully cooked, it stuffed them into its mouth and chewed furiously as it returned to the ball.

A week had passed, and Yun Erdun finally had news. He asked if Kenji had time to come to the Saibei Gym.

This was Kenji's second visit to the Saibei Gym. Hopefully, he could finally complete the gym challenge this time.

Although he wasn't in a huge rush, he wanted to collect the eight badges for the Huaxia League Conference sooner rather than later.

Walking into the Saibei Gym, the same receptionist greeted him.

"Mr. Kenji, the Leader is waiting for you in his room."

...

Having been here before, Kenji remembered the way to Yun Erdun's room. Following the staff, he navigated the gym's corridors and soon arrived at the office/bedroom where Yun Erdun rested.

Knock knock knock...

"Leader Yun, Mr. Kenji is here."

Click...

The door opened.

To Kenji's surprise, the person opening the door wasn't Gym Leader Yun Erdun, but Yang Yue.

"Captain Yang? What are you doing here?" Kenji asked instinctively.

Yang Yue looked radiant, clearly in high spirits. The discovery of the Super Ancient Pokémon and Pokémopolis had brought him both fame and fortune.

"Heh, if I weren't here, Old Yun wouldn't have called you over in such a hurry."

Kenji looked past him to Yun Erdun. So the main reason for the call wasn't the gym battle after all.

"Alright, don't just stand there. Come in, sit down. I need to have a good talk with you." Yang Yue ushered Kenji inside.

Kenji walked in. The first thing he noticed was a black box on Yun Erdun's desk containing two Ultra Balls. They looked special.

Kenji sat on the sofa. Yang Yue immediately launched into a speech of gratitude. If not for Kenji's warnings, they might have accidentally released the Super Ancient Pokémon unprepared.

Given Yun Erdun alone couldn't stop them, Green City would have been devastated.

Just thinking about it made Yang Yue sweat cold bullets.

He couldn't have borne the consequences.

But thanks to Kenji, his team successfully proved the existence of Pokémopolis and secured the sealing artifacts.

This discovery made Yang Yue famous in the archaeological world overnight.

And it was all thanks to Kenji.

After expressing his gratitude, Yang Yue pushed the two Ultra Balls toward Kenji. "These two balls contain an Aerodactyl and a Lileep. Both have A-Rank Potential. I don't have much else to thank you with, so please accept these."

Kenji raised an eyebrow. Aerodactyl and Lileep? Both Fossil Pokémon.

Since Fossil Pokémon were resurrected from fossils, their potential was generally low. A-Rank was extremely rare.

This was indeed a generous gift.

Unfortunately, they weren't very useful to Kenji personally.

Aerodactyl was cool and strong, making for a great mount. But its base stat total was too high (515). Upgrading it to 4-Stars would require either 26 more Aerodactyls or 26 Champion Duplicators.

Too troublesome.

And even at 4-Stars, an A-Rank Aerodactyl would only reach S+ Potential.

As for Lileep, Kenji cared about aesthetics, and Lileep... well, it wasn't exactly his type.

"Thank you very much, Captain Yang." Since Yang Yue was sincere, Kenji accepted the gift without being overly polite.

Yang Yue shook his head. "I should be the one thanking you. If you ever need my help in the future, just ask."

Yang Yue was an honest man. He spoke earnestly, not just paying lip service.

Whether Kenji would need his help later didn't matter; the sentiment was received.

Kenji put away the balls. He already had candidates in mind for these two Pokémon.

The Flying-type Aerodactyl was perfect for Mina.

As for the Lileep, he would give it to Li Heng.
