Chapter 161 - Chapter 161: Return! Metropolis Academy!!

Chapter 161: Return! Metropolis Academy!!

Not only had it completed its evolution, but its level had also jumped by four. Kenji believed it wouldn't be long before Elekid... no, he should call it Electabuzz now, would break through level 39 and reach level 40, the Elite level.

With this, among Kenji's eight Pokémon, only Slaking had yet to break through to the Elite level.

After eating and drinking his fill, Kenji recalled his Pokémon and returned safely to the Pokémon Center in Wumeng City.

The journey back was uneventful.

Early the next morning, Kenji packed his backpack and headed to Wumeng Airport to fly directly back to Metropolis.

By noon, the plane landed. After several months, Kenji had returned to Metropolis.

Getting off the plane and walking out of the airport, Kenji hailed a taxi and headed straight for Metropolis Academy.

This time, Kenji didn't haggle over the fare.

At 12:30 PM, Kenji arrived back at his villa.

Although Kenji hadn't lived here for a while, the academy sent someone to clean it periodically.

So, there wasn't any dust settled.

The first thing he did upon returning was release all his Pokémon from their Pokéballs.

Among the seven Pokémon with him, only Slaking and Electabuzz had been caught after Kenji left the academy.

Electabuzz looked around the new environment curiously. As for Slaking, he merely glanced around twice before losing interest.

Aside from these two, the villa was familiar territory for the others. After releasing them, Kenji went into the kitchen to make himself lunch.

...

Not long after Kenji finished lunch, the doorbell rang.

Kenji paused. The moment he heard the bell, he guessed who it was and quickly walked to the door.

Opening the door, it was exactly as Kenji expected—not a stranger, but Director He.

"Director He, what brings you here? Please, come in."

"Hahaha, you're back, aren't you? Of course I had to come and see. What? Not welcome?" Director He teased, maintaining his usual jovial demeanor.

Kenji waved his hands repeatedly. "What are you saying, Director He? I'm the junior here. Since it's the New Year season, I should have been the one visiting you."

"Director He, Happy New Year!"

"Happy New Year to you too." Director He walked into the villa.

"Why didn't you tell me beforehand when you were arriving? I could have picked you up at the airport," Director He asked.

"I didn't want to disturb you; I know you're busy."

"Oh, nonsense. What's there to be busy with during the New Year?"

The two of them, one young and one old, sat on the sofa in the living room. As they chatted casually, Kenji prepared tea while replying to messages.

"How was the trip? How do you feel?"

Kenji finished brewing the tea and poured a hot cup, handing it to Director He with both hands.

Director He accepted it and asked casually.

Kenji nodded. "Both I and my Pokémon gained a lot from this trip."

Director He hummed in acknowledgment, looking at Kenji with a smile filled with immense satisfaction.

Although Kenji had left Metropolis Academy for a while, he had kept in touch with Director He. So, Director He was aware of Kenji catching Slakoth and Elekid, as well as Beedrill completing its Mega Evolution.

"For this National Collegiate League, Metropolis Academy is counting on you to help us vent our frustrations."

As Director He spoke, the excitement in his eyes flared up.

For years, Metropolis Academy's results in the National Collegiate League had been less than ideal. In recent years, each generation seemed worse than the last, and they had been suppressed by those guys from Imperial Academy to the point where they could barely lift their heads.

Metropolis Academy desperately needed to prove itself.

And this time, the opportunity had finally arrived!

Back when they saw Kenji's background information and his battle videos, Metropolis Academy had made up its mind to recruit him at all costs.

And facts had proven that their bet was completely correct.

Kenji had proved to Metropolis what it meant to transform into a dragon upon meeting the wind and rain.

Even before receiving resource support, he had raised his Pokémon to such a level on his own.

And with the aid of resources, his growth speed was simply monstrous.

Kenji smiled faintly. The National Collegiate League no longer posed any challenge to him.

"Director He, Metropolis Academy will soon welcome a new League Champion."

Director He froze for a moment, but once he processed the words, he burst into laughter.

"Good! Good!! Good lad!!! That's the ambition!" Director He laughed heartily, saying "good" three times in a row.

However, Director He didn't take Kenji's words too literally.

Perhaps Kenji's talent was high, and he might truly become a Champion trainer in the future, but to defeat Zhurong Yun? That would probably take a few more years of waiting.

"By the way, you said you'd have a surprise for me when you returned to Metropolis. Where is it?" Director He suddenly changed the subject, asking with a mix of confusion and curiosity.

Kenji didn't keep him in suspense. He went up to the second floor, retrieved his spatial backpack, and took out the manuscripts from Elite Four Liu.

"This is...?" Director He paused, looking at the thick notebook in Kenji's hand with confusion.

The cover of the notebook looked like it had seen quite a few years.

"Open it and take a look."

Kenji said mysteriously.

Director He took the notebook and flipped it open.

At first, his expression was casual, but the more he read, the slower he flipped the pages, and the more serious his expression became.

"This... Kenji, where did you get this?" Director He looked up, his tone tinged with shock.

The notebook detailed numerous methods for raising Poison-type Pokémon. Some of these methods were vastly different from the existing ones at Metropolis Academy, while others seemed to be refined and corrected versions of the academy's current methods.

The notes not only introduced how to maximize the potential of certain Poison-type Pokémon but also recorded what factors influenced the potential of their offspring.

"I met an old senior during my travels. I thought the things recorded in here were interesting, so I brought them back," Kenji explained vaguely.

Before leaving, with Grandma Liu's permission, Kenji had brought out parts of her research manuscripts accumulated over the years.

Of course, things like the Special-grade Pokéblock recipes and Arbok's secret pattern technique were naturally not included.

"Director He, do you think this is useful?" Kenji asked back.

"Useful? It's incredibly useful."

Director He closed the notebook and exhaled a long breath, nodding. His own research into Poison-type Pokémon wasn't that deep, so he couldn't immediately verify the authenticity of everything in the notes.

The specific value of these notes would need to be determined through experimental research.

Seeing that Director He recognized the value, Kenji sighed in relief.

Having obtained the notes, Director He didn't stay much longer. He packed up the pile of notebooks and left in a hurry, heading straight for the Metropolis Academy Research Institute.
