The news about Kai was exactly the distraction he needed to push the image of Noah's disappointed face out of his mind.
He gestured for Caleb to sit, though his own energy was far too restless to allow him to do the same.
"You said you have clues," Adam prompted, his voice dropping into the low tone he used when discussing matters of state. "What exactly have you discovered? Quickly, tell me everything."
Caleb leaned forward, his expression grave. "Yesterday, while we were interrogating several of the police officers, we hit a wall. Because we lacked concrete evidence to hold them, we were forced to let them go."
"However, as per your instructions, I didn't let them out of our sight. We placed heavy surveillance on each of them. That is when I noticed something peculiar."
