As the car glided smoothly through the darkened streets on the way home, Noah finally felt the lingering tension of the day leave his body.
He leaned his head against the cool glass of the window, watching the city lights blur into long streaks of gold and neon. After a few minutes of quiet contemplation, he turned to look at Adam.
"Your family members are so nice and so weird at the same time," Noah said, a soft, genuine smile touching his lips. "I really like the bond you all have. It is something special."
After he spoke, a heavy silence settled over him.
Noah's thoughts drifted, as they often did when he was confronted with a functional, loving household.
He couldn't help but wish his own family possessed even a fraction of that warmth.
He wished he had a mother who would fight for his honor or a brother who, despite the bickering, would always have his back.
