Adam began to frown deeply, a dark cloud crossing his already bruised features.
He looked around the room at the people he shared blood with and truly wondered if this was still his family.
How could they possibly turn against him with such coordinated efficiency? He looked at his mother, his voice tight with a mix of frustration and genuine disbelief.
"Mom, what on earth are you talking about? I married him after he reached the legal age of adulthood. It is not like I am too old for him. Our relationship is just fine. In fact, it is perfect."
Xavier snickered immediately, the sound sharp and mocking in the grand sitting room.
He leaned in and whispered just loud enough for everyone to hear, "Oh, I can certainly see how perfect it is. Nothing says perfection like a ten year age gap."
