Adam moved with a sudden, protective fluidness, stepping directly in front of Noah to shield him.
He used his broad shoulders to completely block Noah from Kai's predatory and evil eyes. Adam stood his ground, towering over the other man as he narrowed his eyes into a fierce glare.
"You really are bold, Kai," Adam said, his voice dripping with a dangerous level of sarcasm.
"You have a great deal of audacity to stand there and talk to us this way. I was unaware that my husband and I actually needed to seek your personal permission before we decided to get married. I honestly do not understand where you get this inflated sense of confidence from, but it is misplaced."
Noah, who was tucked safely behind Adam's sturdy frame, felt a strange and complicated emotion swell within his chest.
He had spent the last two days expecting the absolute worst behavior from Adam at every turn. He viewed Adam as his captor and his primary source of stress.
