Precursive Umbra, as it turned out, was not simply a small band of demons that followed Vitriol around out of loyalty or habit.
According to Vitriol's own testimony, she had built the Legion herself over the years, drawing from those who had been cursed as a side effect of her wish-granting.
Some of them carried curses that reshaped their abilities or personalities in permanent ways. Others had no curse at all and were simply devoted to Vitriol to a degree that I personally found hard to fully understand.
Whether cursed or not, every one of them answered her without question to the level where it felt like a cult, or at least, according to Anatuya's report.
Their activities were not idle, either. From intelligence gathering, assassination, counter-intelligence against anyone who bore genuine hostility toward Vitriol—and apparently, there were many such individuals.
