Chapter 344: The Soul Race and the Spirit Race!
"The line between genius and madness is always just one step away. Has this world really gone mad?"
Jiang Lin tightened the warm jade around his chest; this was the last life-saving trump card Ling Yun'er had left for him.
It wasn't the so-called legendary Tuoshe Ancient Jade, but a spatial transmission jade plate.
"If you find your identity exposed or if you are trapped with no way out, go to that valley and activate this jade plate. The world is vast; there will always be a place for you."
This was the last sentence left in the letter, the final escape route Ling Yun'er had left for Jiang Lin.
"I hope I won't need to use it." Jiang Lin shook his head and then threw himself into the setting sun, disappearing into the horizon.
Outside the Gama Empire, a man wrapped in shadows tossed a spatial jade slip to another person in black robes. "This is the information for the past few months. Take it back to the clan. By the way, the Spirit Race has been quiet for many years, but we seem to have discovered a person who might be from the Spirit Race. Check with the clan if anyone knows anything."
The figure in the shadows was none other than Ling Ying, who had followed Xiao Yan for many years. Now that Xiao Yan had accomplished his mission and was returning to Wutan City, there was no real need for Ling Ying's protection. So, he was handling some recent information about Gu Xun'er and his clan, particularly drawing attention to Jiang Lin's existence.
Ling Ying had been paying attention to Jiang Lin for many years, but previously hadn't paid much attention because the Spirit Race, though rare, wasn't entirely non-existent. However, as he gathered more information from shadow guards in other regions, he began to feel that something was off. Over the years, he hadn't heard of any Spirit Race activity from other shadow guards, only from his own side.
Out of caution, Ling Ying had to remind them, as this was very abnormal.
"Understood." The man in black robes nodded silently and then vanished like a wisp of smoke.
"I have basically taught you everything I can," the voice of the Soul Craftmaster echoed in the dim, cold black-gold hall. Mysterious flames slowly burned in the furnace. A gray spiritual light shot out of the cauldron, transformed into a sword, and flew around a silver-haired elder before landing in the hands of a long-haired young man wearing a half-mask above the hall.
The Soul Craftmaster glanced at the gray sword in his hand. A faint look of approval appeared in his deep, black eyes, then he tossed the six-star soul sword to the figure below, Hu Lei.
"Soul weapon forging, strictly speaking, is an intermediate state between the Xuan-level weapon and the spirit weapon. Perhaps, one day, it could become a spirit weapon. You've already mastered the core technique of the Soul Weapon Sect. What the future holds is for you to walk on your own. Now, leave the Central Plains, and don't come back."
Hu Lei hesitated for a moment. "Master."
"If you really want your disciple to live longer, don't get involved with the Central Plains," the Soul Craftmaster said indifferently.
"Thank you for your teachings, Master!" Hu Lei paused for a moment, then bowed to the Soul Craftmaster above, his heart filled with countless questions. However, he knew that his master was someone with a sharp tongue but a kind heart. Though his words seemed cold, they were full of care.
"Leave now. You don't belong here," the Soul Craftmaster waved slightly, and the space around Hu Lei distorted. When he regained his bearings, he found himself outside the black-gold hall.
"Ke'er, see him off," the Soul Craftmaster's voice echoed in the hall, and a Spirit Race girl who had been waiting nearby appeared.
"Senior brother, follow me," the young girl, Ke'er, nodded silently and led Hu Lei outside the Mu residence.
As they reached the Mu residence, Hu Lei suddenly noticed four pitch-black sword blades suspended at each corner of the sky above, the blades extremely illusory, seemingly merging with the space itself, turning the surrounding area into an absolute forbidden zone!
"Don't look around. Master's current situation is difficult. If you don't want to cause trouble for him, it's best to pretend you don't see anything and avoid giving him more trouble." Ke'er didn't turn back, yet she knew what Hu Lei was looking at, and she gently reminded him.
"Thank you for the reminder," Hu Lei said, shocked. He quickly thanked Ke'er, realizing that the rules here had become more complicated. When he first followed the Soul Craftmaster, it felt as if he were the center of the universe, but now it felt tense and cold.
"By the way," Ke'er turned and looked at Hu Lei deeply, then suddenly gave a cold, silent smile. "Don't disappoint Master, and don't let the soul weapons be lost."
"Huh?"
Boom!
Hu Lei was startled, and just as he was about to ask something, the gate in front of him was already closed.
"Are you not leaving?" The Soul Craftmaster, leaning against the gilded soft couch in the black-gold hall, casually played with a jade pendant in his hand. He glanced at Ke'er, who had just entered, his expression indifferent.
"The clan leader said there's no need for this. Everyone, every clan, has their own mission. Their mission is to form formations, and our mission is to become emperors." Ke'er spoke plainly.
"Become emperors? It sounds nice, dragging billions of lives to play your emperor game?" The Soul Craftmaster sneered.
"But they have no other choice, right? Master." The Spirit Race girl with sparkling eyes calmly stared at the long-haired young man above, her voice level.
"You are also a participant, even one of the initiators. You made the mistake, Master."
"This world has always been about the strong ruling, the victor taking all, with no place for the weak. You should have understood this long ago, which is why you initiated the decision to form the Soul Hall, and why you decided to repair the broken formation."
"The original goal was the Ancient Emperor's cave. Now, you and the Spirit Race are digging up things outside and have ended up with this current situation."
"So, what exactly is it that corrupted your cruel and cold heart, Master?"
"...Do you know the final complete plan?" the Soul Craftmaster suddenly countered.
Ke'er's expression was calm. "Yes, one clan's blood sacrifice is not enough. The fall of the Xiao Clan thousands of years ago greatly affected both the Spirit and Soul Races, especially with the Spirit Race already having a tendency for madness in refining people into weapons. They're even more insane now, and we... we are insane too. The Spirit Race is willing to risk everything. We must go along. If we don't, someone else will do it for us."
