"Yes, Sir," Maurice's voice broke through my daze. "I'll see what I can do," he answered, but it lacked the certainty I needed.
An answer that neither gave me the confidence nor the assurance of a positive outcome, even though that was exactly what I needed at the moment.
And I certainly didn't have to blame him.
He was not there when I met the woman, and with just a minimal description like this, I knew it was like searching for a needle in a haystack… absolutely mission impossible.
I drew in a deep breath, resigning myself to whatever outcome.
With how fierce that woman was and how understanding… no, happy James was when I entered, definitely something had gone wrong.
Something I couldn't place my finger on… and this feeling I never liked.
My thoughts raced.
