Third POV
This was certainly the last voice James Norton expected to hear from, more importantly, at this precise moment.
For a split second after the call connected, James stared at the screen of his phone as though it had betrayed him.
His fingers tightened around the device, knuckles whitening, his mind racing through every possibility that could explain why this man was calling him now, of all times.
After the incident at the wedding hall, their paths had never crossed again.
They had neither met nor spoken at any point since then.
James had ensured that much. He had deliberately avoided every gathering, every channel, every possible route that could bring him into Adrian Carter's orbit.
Yet here he was.
His breath caught, and his heart thumped hard with suspicion.
"Alpha Norton?" Adrian's voice came again…calm, unhurried, carrying a subtle authority that made James' jaw clench.
