I pushed the door to the study open. I had left in a hurry last night, and several files still lay scattered across the desk, waiting to be handled.
I drew in a deep breath as I made my way to the windows and drew up the curtains, letting the morning light spill into the room.
A few steps back to my desk, I pulled out the chair and sank into it, exhaustion pressing against me.
I powered on my laptop, just as I felt Maurice trying to gain my attention.
"What is it?" I mindlinked.
"They have been sent to the cell, but I suspect some foul play," he said.
I chuckled. "That's not a problem. You keep them, let's see who sets them free."
"But…" He started.
"The council meeting comes up in a few days…." I interrupted him. "I will be in attendance, and at that time I expect the fox to show its tail."
My pack had always lived peacefully after that painful and brutal night…but now twice in a row…rogues had raided us.
