Son Goku and Pan, grandfather and granddaughter, immediately widened their eyes.
They had traveled through the universe searching for the Dragon Balls before, so they knew very well just how vast the universe they lived in was.
Yet the Old Kai claimed that their universe was not even one percent the size of that so-called Seventh Universe.
That was simply too outrageous!
"Ancestor, are you really telling the truth?" Supreme Kai of the East hurried over to the Old Kai, looking incredulous.
Bonk!
The Old Kai jumped up and smacked him on the head.
"You don't know anything! I honestly don't know how you ever became a Supreme Kai!"
"..."
Supreme Kai of the East covered his head, looking utterly aggrieved.
No one ever taught me any of this!
"By the way, you two..." The Old Kai looked toward Goku and Pan. "Did you learn about Lord Beerus and Whis from Chronoa?"
He already knew that the two had become Time Patrol members. From his perspective, Chronoa was obviously the one who had told them about Beerus and Whis.
"No."
Goku shook his head.
"No?"
The Old Kai's voice rose several notches.
"Then how did you learn about them? Or did you encounter Lord Beerus and Whis in another timeline?"
"Not exactly."
Goku explained, "A Saiyan named Gran told us about them."
He then told the Old Kai everything about Gran's origins, as well as his grudge against Vegeta.
"A divine being... incredibly powerful... a Saiyan abandoned by Vegeta... and wearing a strange outfit..."
The Old Kai muttered to himself, piecing together the information.
Pan asked, "Old Kai, Gran is clearly a Saiyan from the same generation as Grandpa. So why is he so powerful?"
"Pan, Goku just told us that Gran is a divine being. You mortals cannot sense the aura of divine beings, so you are already at a natural disadvantage."
The Old Kai's expression grew increasingly solemn.
"Even without that disadvantage, you probably still wouldn't be able to defeat him. Based on everything Goku just told me, I have a feeling..."
"A feeling about what?"
Goku and Pan both leaned toward the little old man.
The Old Kai glanced at them before speaking solemnly.
"I have a feeling that this Gran might actually be a God of Destruction!"
A God of Destruction?!
Goku and Pan were once again left completely dumbfounded.
According to what the Old Kai had just told them, Lord Beerus was a God of Destruction.
But now, he was saying that Gran was also a God of Destruction!
"Are all Gods of Destruction really that terrifying?" Goku recalled the time he had sparred with Gran and couldn't help shivering.
"Goku, you're mistaken. The power of a God of Destruction isn't terrifying."
The Old Kai looked toward the sky.
"It's invincible."
"If our Seventh Universe hadn't been shattered, our God of Destruction and Angel would still be here. That One-Star Dragon from back then wouldn't have been able to cause the slightest bit of trouble."
"If we had simply summoned our God of Destruction, one Destruction Energy blast would have been enough to erase One-Star Dragon from existence!"
"That's how powerful they are..."
"Of course! Those are the indestructible laws of destruction. But there's no point explaining this to you—you wouldn't understand!"
"Old Kai, keep going! We want to know more about the Gods of Destruction."
"All right!"
The Old Kai had no choice but to continue explaining everything he knew about the Gods of Destruction.
As time passed, Goku and Pan's expressions became increasingly solemn.
Only after the Old Kai finished explaining did they finally understand why he had described the Gods of Destruction as invincible.
"Divine beings who rule over entire universes and specialize in destruction..."
Goku shuddered at the thought.
"Thank goodness Gran didn't use Destruction Energy against me back then."
"Yeah, yeah!" Pan nodded vigorously. "Thank goodness Grandpa Gran isn't a bad person."
"Actually, there's something that's been bothering me..."
The Old Kai suddenly spoke again.
Everyone turned toward him.
The Old Kai narrowed his eyes.
"According to what you just told me, Goku, Gran was a Saiyan abandoned by Vegeta. By all accounts, that would make him a native of the Seventh Universe as well."
"So why did he become a God of Destruction?"
"Could it be that the Beerus of his timeline also disappeared?"
That was what puzzled the Old Kai the most.
Beerus was one of the most powerful Gods of Destruction in the entire King of All's Universe. Given his lazy personality, he would never willingly take on a disciple.
Therefore, there was only one possibility.
Something had most likely happened to the Beerus of Gran's timeline as well—just as something had happened to the Beerus of their own timeline.
Goku and Pan fell silent.
They had no idea what had happened either.
"Right, Old Kai," Goku suddenly asked, lowering his voice. "You said something major happened back then that caused our Seventh Universe to be shattered."
"What exactly happened?"
Supreme Kai of the East and the two green foxes immediately perked up their ears.
Pan swallowed nervously.
"That incident..."
The Old Kai trembled slightly.
A look of unmistakable fear appeared in his eyes.
Goku and Pan exchanged a glance.
The Old Kai had lived for countless years and had witnessed more things than either of them could imagine.
Yet even he was showing such fear.
Just how terrifying had that incident been?
The thought made both Goku and Pan's hearts rise into their throats.
"Truthfully, I don't know exactly what happened either."
The Old Kai sighed.
"I was sealed away by Lord Beerus long before the incident occurred."
"However, even though I was sealed inside the Supreme Kai Sword, I could still sense just how terrifying the disturbance was."
"The entire Seventh Universe was trembling at the time, as though the universe itself were being destroyed."
"Then, a terrifying force tore our Seventh Universe apart."
"The fragment of the universe we're living in now was separated because of that."
There were still some things the Old Kai hadn't told them.
Under normal circumstances, the lives of the Supreme Kai and the God of Destruction were linked.
But after that incident, the Old Kai discovered that the restriction binding their lives together had somehow disappeared.
As for Beerus's whereabouts, he couldn't sense him at all.
He didn't even know whether Beerus was still alive.
"Grandpa!"
After hearing the Old Kai's explanation, fear welled up inside Pan.
She couldn't help hugging Goku.
Goku gently patted her back.
"Don't be afraid. Grandpa's here."
"Ancestor, how come I've never heard about any of this?" Supreme Kai of the East asked.
The Old Kai glanced at him before snorting.
"I'm the Supreme Kai from fifteen generations ago. When I was sealed away, you and even that Grand Supreme Kai hadn't been born yet!"
